Okay --

1) Next year you'll be able to buy a 5TB drive for about $200 bucks. (You can get a 2TB drive today for $120 at your local office supply store.) You should start backing up those outdated Blu-ray disks now.

2) The latest fiber optics tech is out and does more than 100 terabits per second -- or the contents of 250 Double Sided Blu-Ray discs each second. It does it on a SINGLE cable. This isn't tech you buy for your PC, it's tech that the Telco's are putting in to expand broadband coverage.

Put 1 and 2 together, and Blu-ray is looking like it's heading for "end-of-life" status pretty fast.

I'm sorry if I offended any Blu-ray fans, but I gotta say, the writing is on the wall.

Lemme know how that works out for you when your internet provider are capping everyone and going this route means you won't own any of the content that you buy.

Please show me where I can stream a movie in 1080P w/ HD audio. It does not exist.

It will be many many years before that becomes widespread in the US. Until it does, Blu-Ray will remain alive.

Man, first the chipset delay before the MacBook Pros, and now the bridges are all sandy! Intel, get your act together!

To those clamoring for a matte option I feel your pain but our time is long gone. I bought a Mac Pro just so I could use matte screen because my underdeveloped eyes couldn't get used to "looking past reflections" on the new iMac (which I sold in less than a year)

Perhaps not though. Apple dropped the matte display on the Macbook Pro only to bring it back again.

I know more than a few people who find the reflection issue horrendous, and in my opinion it goes against the PRO "user-experience" in exchange for the consumer "user-experience" Apple is so proud of, meaning brighter, more saturated colors.

Apple even puts fake reflections in their ads.

A redesign in 2012?

That seems to align with all the big changes expected for the iPhone, iPad and MacBook pro.

that top spec 27" is never going to happen, it will have 4GB RAM and a i5 processor with BTO option of a i7

Hate to say it but IMHO you are completely wrong there. Look at the refreshed MBP and then read your statement, nearly ALL the current gen MBP have i7 processors.

Based on this I would guess that ALL iMac models will too, with the exception of the entry me el iMac.

Personally I am hoping for a decent GPU; although I'm primarily an xbox gamer I do enjoy the odd month of WoW and steam gaming.

Thing is though... if the new top end MacBook Pro 2.3 can keep up with and beat even a current 8 core Mac Pro in some instances and trounce the quad core model, just how powerful is a top end Sandy Bridge iMac going to be :confused:

And seeing as Apple blessed us with quad core in the laptops, I would bet my remainder of my hair on my head that the top end iMac option at most will have six core sandy bridge :D

When the hell are they gonna re-implement spaces !!@$%#^&(&)(#

I need to be able to assign it to any corner I want !!!

What the Hell is wrong with them !!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

isnt spaces already available? i have it on my mbpro.each corner is assigned ,can u explain what u mean?im confused.its still in sys prefs.

yes,i hope they put a good gpu in,i bet they will actually, imagine 2 gig ddr5 memory, they have finally come of age,or caught up so to speak, the last 27" imac i had was good, but the gpu let it down a little bit,

exciting anyway, always is when they refresh isnt it,even if ur not buying one,its still exciting,oh no,now i need to save some cash up,lol.

Will there be new sizes ? A 24 inch would be perfect :)

Sooo looking forward to this! I'll probably get one from the Apple Store the following day maybe. Highest stock model for me! Well, unless the price jumps up from the current one. Oh and a bad GPU will make me buy a new PC that day. So come on good GPU!

I want to see Apple PUSH Thunderbolt into the logic board and all of the connections. Let's see Thunderbolt run SSD drives!!! If Apple and Intel don't push Thunderbolt into the light and really show how much better it is, and when I say "show" I mean build it and sell it to people, then it'll be a great idea that we'll all get around to years later than we should.

I could care less at the moment about external storage. I'll care at some point but not until the speed in the computer is as fast as it should be.

I recall FW400 having some success over SCSI. However FW800 was quite a disappointment. I was looking forward to it, until I realize only a handful of products are actually released. USB 2.0 is a success as it offers acceptable wide range performance. Would love eSata, however not holding my breath. ThunderBolt seems great, however with the lack of product announcements and pricing it is a wait and see if the masses will accept it or just go with other options NAS. :)

It's better for playing game's when you connect your console to your mac

I understand where you are coming from. With your feet planted in 2011, set in concrete, unable to fathom future developments based on the experimental or high-end tech of the day, the Blu-Ray seems endlessly of value. Much like the tape reels of the 60s.

The BluRay is going away for one very specific reason: mechanical. By 2016 the flash memory chips for 50gb will probably be so everyday and cheap that bulky, mechanical BluRay will seem awkward. By 2019 I'd bet you can store several times more than a BluRay on medium-priced thumb-drive.

Proof? Look back 6 years when a 1gb thumb-drive was a huge chunk of cash. Look back 10 years when a 512MB thumb-drive was almost prohibitive to buy. The future is non-mechanical.

Absolutely right, as I have demonstrated this over and over again in previous posts. BR (and not BD as Sony wants you to have it) is dead in the water.

Not only for "mechanical" reasons, but first and foremost for the simple fact that it brings little added value over DVD (contrary to what happened between VHS and DVD back in the day). DVD in both industrialized and developing markets is still KING; just look at the shelves of electronics stores.

Apple is more than wise to keep its distance from the BR crap.

I don't see why people here are saying USB3 won't go anywhere. Portable hard drives are already using it =\

I think it will be just as big as USB2 was. Why wouldn't it? I would be surprised if all the PC vendors shipped machines with TB, if history is any indication. Far more Windows PC's were shipped with USB2 than FW. That may change this time around with TB but I doubt it.

i would crack up if they switched to amd chips!! and nvidia gpus,

Bought monitors with anti-glare coatings. And monitor hoods.

My first computer was a PowerBook G3 and after that it was an LCD iMac (not the Luxo). Never had to ever use a CRT other than school and even then it sucked big time. I feel privileged. With the release of all this gloss glass monitors from :apple:, I am saving a boat load of money by simply not upgrading to the crap offerings and just use a Dell monitor and update to a Mac Mini or MacPro when the time presents itself to upgrade.

Thank you :apple: for not offering any Anti-Glare across the entire hardware lineup. :p

Would be great if new iMacs had a 32" monitor at high end

screen prices are cheap and creative types would eat them up
:):apple::cool:

My desktop has eSATA and USB 2 built into the case (of course this requires some plugging in on the motherboard itself...) and the motherboard supports firewire.

I think what will probably happen is just switching to USB3 and TB. Seems easiest and the most backward-compatible.

I can't wait to get a USB3 flash drive so my laptop can finally put its USB3 to use :)

The GPU offerings will most likely be the following:
Low end 21.5" - 6490M rebranded as a 6450
High end 21.5" and low end 27" - 6750M rebranded as a 6570 or 6670
High end 27" - 6950M rebranded as a 6750 or 6770

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.

Pointless right now, but what about in 6 month? The price of the iMac will just be the same then but it is very likely some TB displays and external storage device have been released. So why not by now and wait for the TB peripherals?

Plugging in one cable to connect and external monitor while daisy chaining multiple external storage sources is far from pointless to me...

I feel privileged.

Except for the fact you missed the golden age of computing. ;) Telix and a 2400 baud modem was a far superior experience to this Internet crap. Long live Codepage 437 graphics. With only 16 colors to choose from, no one needed a calibrated monitor :
