Oh MAN! Overwhelmed by the responses, all of them usefull and true!

So first of all, a huge thanks to everyone, it's times like these that the best quality of this forum truly shows. Kudos and thanks again :)

So, I just got back from another trip to the store, trying and comparing the iPhone 6 and the LG G3. And I have to agree with you; the big screen is pretty but man, what a hassle Android is to work with after years of Apple use. The iPhone 6 is more expensive and it won't feel as 'new' since iOS = iOS, but there are just too many down sides to switching, as stated above; the investment in apps, the doubt that is a total red flag in my decision making (so I don't decide and wait it out, and ask for silly advice here, hehe), the better-in-the-long-run aspect, the ease of one-handed use (the LG G3 was impossible to hold for me, nice and fun in the store but envisioning daily use, a total drag); I'm going to wait for the iPhone 6 to be better available and stick with my trusted 4S for the moment.

EDIT: totally agree with a few posts up; thinking of all the things I would have to sacrifice. iMessage alone gets so much use that it would suck to give that up.

Two phones is a good solution in my opinion.

An Apple for when you are feeling Classy.
An Android for when you want to customise.

I would only buy a fairly basic android phone e.g. Moto G.

While I still plan on getting the 6+, every day I'm not able to purchase one makes the Note 4 look better and better.

Good. Now stop going and playing with other phones. Anticipation is good for the soul.

It is. But my username isn't random. I tend to get a bit neurotic when about to spend lots of cash. Yay for being Dutch! Though since it is a device I will use intensively every day for at least two years, it will be worth it.

You are not tethered to apple whatsoever. if you like the lgg3 more than the iphone, go with the lgg3. It's not THAT hard to switch from ios to android. I've done it (I have a moto x, and still use this forum because I still use my imac and ipad religiously.)

For me, I experience the best of both worlds. :)

Ok, so here's the deal. I've been using my trusty iPhone 4S for 2.5 years now and I loved every minute with it. Before that, I used an HTC Desire and it wasn't a great experience. I'm fully integrated in an Apple environment, macbook, imac, ipad and all get a lot of use.

I always told myself I would upgrade my phone when the iPhone 6 would be announced. And I still want to. But... it's just.. argh. The availability of the iPhone 6 is so terrible here, I know I should be patient (or should've ordered one when they became available). So there's that, and the fact that in a local electronics store I spent quite some time playing with an LG G3 on display and I was amazed at the display, the big screen-but-relatively-small-device, and, I'm Dutch, the fact it is half of what I would pay for my iPhone 6 of choice.

So here I am, seriously doubting if I should wait for the iPhone to become available or save myself the money and risk a LOT of frustration by going to Android. I'm not a troll, I really want an iPhone, I love it, I'm very invested in it regarding apps and integration in my daily life. But damn, I'm cheap. And doubting, haha.

Convince me to stick with Apple! :D

Just ask yourself.

Do you want to buy a product? Or. Do you want to be the product?

Why? It's nobody's job here to tell you what phone best suits your needs, that's up to you to figure out.

Now if you have specific questions about which platform/phone does a better job fulfilling certain stated needs you'll find plenty of people happy to help out -- but as to making personal decisions that's pretty much on you.

Why NOT give an android phone a try? Pick one up used or buy one from a carrier if you can evaluate it within the return period. Assuming you don't break it, it'll just cost you a restocking fee.

I tried out an S4 Active last summer. I ended up returning it and paid the $35 restocking fee as it didn't meet a couple requirements I had (that I wouldn't have figured out except for trying it out). Glad gave it a shot, it was fun and educational trying out a different platform.

Man, what I wouldn't give to have a life so free of concern that something as little as a decision on whether or not to wait on a new iPhone to create angst!

Have owned iphone 4S, 5 and now 6. Also owned OG EVO 4G, nexus 4g and also HTC One. Every time i get an android, something just doesnt feel right. Whether its the OS or physical feel of phone I always find myself coming back to iPhone. I am not a fan boy so I usually get what phone i want, but the iPhone just works. Its simple and does what I want. Android has a lot of stuff i guess i didnt need. Just my 2 cents

As someone who's recently used both, I say save yourself some effort and get an iPhone 6/6 Plus.

Odds are you will buy the LG G3, love it for a few weeks then realize you miss iPhones and iOS. You will then have to sell or return your G3 and order an iPhone.

Save yourself the trouble and order the 6 now.

If you have iPhone/iPad/Mac I would stick to iPhone, especially with iOS 8 and Yosemite (soon.)

Handoff is quite awesome as is answering phone calls on your computer (Even if you just use it for caller ID while your phone is in your pocket. And SMS relay was great for the two days I got to use it before Apple disabled it :D

Switching to Android means that you can no longer use any of that.

Don't feel ashamed....you are you...nobody is judging you (unless it's one of the hardcore apple fan). I got a note 4..and it's great...i'm just waiting for iPhone 6 plus.

Didn't the Note 4 come out in only a handful of markets just last week? And you're already waiting for an iPhone 6 Plus?

most people that talk crap on the other platform nowadays have not used that other platform recently for a significant length of time. Significant = more than a few days, more than side by side at the store...

android is now solid. it's not laggy, it's not as disjointed as it used to be and everyone makes it out to be..

ios can crash and do crash and is not as fluid as everyone makes it up to be..

But, the stability also depends on which minor interval version you're running. In my experience, iOS 7.0 and 8.0 were laggy. 7.0 through 7.0.3 crashed and randomly reset a lot. 7.1.2 and 8.0.2 have neither lagged nor randomly reset (crashes are now limited to a group of apps that performed poorly with all versions)

Android could well be very solid, but does that apply to every recent version?

I've just moved from a nexus 5 to an iPhone 6 and honestly, there is nothing in it these days.

My only suggestion would be if you go android get either the new moto x or nexus... They are the closest you'll get to an iPhone like experience with no bloat ware, good integration between hardware and software, immediate software updates and lag free.

like i said, both crash, both can be disjointed, both have fludity issues in different places.

but were at a time now where both are sufficiently reliable.

If you had placed an order online on the 19th you'd have it by now. So now you're waiting longer? You can walk into a store and find one, just keep trying. What's scary about it anyway? If you want an iPhone, order one or keep trying in the store. Had you done this you'd have one already.

Note 4? I have a six plus but still debating between the two. Which one have you decided on?

But, at the same time, the fluidity and reliability will vary depending on which minor interval update you're running, as well as which apps.

Yes, apps crash, but with iOS 8 I have not had a single system restart. And if I deleted the handful of apps that do crash on me regularly, then I would not have any crashes either.

If I was still running iOS 7.0, then yes, my phone would be laggy and very prone to crashes and random restarts across the board. But, with iOS 8.0.2, none of that applies.

When making cross-platform generalizations, you need to account for not only the maturity of a particular platform, but also the maturity of a specific version.
