On a more serious note, did anyone pick up what Tim Cook said yesterday at D10? "On iPhone, developers can design their app to target only one screen size".

Hmm, maybe he's trying to mimic how Steve Jobs would flip flop on things. "Nobody wants to watch video on an iPod" and "Nobody reads books anymore" come to mind.

Good point. And he said that he was not trying to mimic Steve nor to be him. That would be a double-flip flop in less than 15 mins. Flip-floping level: Mastery!

Creating the fastest selling phone of all time? Creating the largest operating quarterly profits in history? Working across all of their product lines?

You're right. Probably just on holiday.

yeah he took a break fro redesign the iphone to focus on other stuff.. thats fine.. as long as the iphone 5 gets a full redesign.. and not a 4S2 type deal.

So it's going to be skinny tall. That's just ugly.

thats my point.. the 4 and 4S are slight to tall as is..:(

Here is a legit photo of a piece of metal that is going to be used in the next iPhone. It was sent to us by a confidential source close to Apple:

No it isn't. There's already a sim tray opener provided by Apple in the package:

One special piece of metal, actually Liquidmetal. So think about that...

wasnt liquid metal only ever used for the 3g sim removal? that was some time ago now by tech standards, I dont think apple is going down that route just yet.

omg i so agree, that icon layout is soooooo DATED and so is the lockscreen, such a waste of space

there is so much they can do to spice up that grid a bit..yes the UI is clean and silky smooth but its so boring and clinical that i cannot stand to use an ios device without a jailbreak so i can add features..

So according to the math the screen has increased in height by about 15mm but the overall length of the phone has increased only 7mm or so. Meaning a reduction in top/bottom bezel of about 7-8mm. Let's hope that's true.

Can't work out if this was a joke missed or a level of irony I don't understand.

yes but it need at least 4 mm width increase also..

You must have a short memory. People always criticize Jony every time a major product line is redesigned. People hated the iPhone 4. People hated the unibody MacBook Pros.

And now people love them. If anything, Jony knows what will look awesome in 6 months, not now. You could even argue that he's one of the most influential people in directing what's technologically fashionable.

Mr Ive hasn't lost a thing.

I'm sorry, you misunderstand. I'm not questioning Mr Ive's ability or skill. I'm questioning the validity of these schematics. If given some thought, the pattern doesn't fit. Mr. Ive would have pushed (and succeeded) towards a redesign of the iPhone for their 2012 model. Not just a mere alteration in screen size and thickness.

Yeah, I'd say the details are falling into place.

Only question, really, remaining for me is June/July or September/October?

I always believed the fall, but with so much news slipping by, could it be earlier?

Unfortunately, probably not. Every device released in the past has had the new iOS released several months before for developers to test. IE - iOS 4 was released to developers in early April and the phone shipped late June.

Unless this device will be updated to iOS6 at a later date (which could be plausible as the current gen iPad supports LTE in iOS5), then we will see this phone around 2~3 months after iOS6 is released - or August/September/October.

iOS 6 will be announced this month but it won't be released until the Fall (with iPhone 5). Unless by released you meant the beta?

I predict that it will not be called the iPhone 5. I think it will be called "The New iPhone" just like the iPad

Why doesn't Apple come up with something like this:

Damnish gorgeous sick concept...

Although i do like those leaks i mean the (hopefully full metal back) and edge to edge screen and a bit taller....

I was trying to imply the only way the new iPhone would be released in June would be if it were to run on iOS5 and be updated to iOS6 when it's released to the public later in the summer / early fall.

Wouldn't make sense but it's plausible.

I don't but any of this. I have NEVER seen one stream of rumors come out, day after day that all fit perfectly together like this. It's just too odd. I am thinking these rumors are all coming out of Apple and they are of a trashed prototype that was around back in 2011..With a few mods to look legit (small dock connector, etc) Why? To try and make everyone forget about what we saw last year, prior to the 4S announcement...

It may not look exactly like this, but I bet this is more along the lines of what we are going to see come October.

Because it needs a radio transparent section somewhere on the back for the antenna. Hence the rubberized section on the 1st gen iphone and 3G iPads.
