Mere co-incidence as the GS3 starts to arrive at stores and in the general retail distribution train, the iPhone 5 parts /schematics etc, all start to surface and tech & mobile blogs go on a feeding frenzy - neglecting the new flagship androids arrival. Mere coincidence ? In this day and age I think not. :)

it does have the well known metal rim siding which Apple uses for the antenna so it could work

That is part of the antenna system. It is not the entire antenna system. There is still an internal antenna that needs a radio transparent line of sight path out of the device.

I don't but any of this. I have NEVER seen one stream of rumors come out, day after day that all fit perfectly together like this. It's just too odd. I am thinking these rumors are all coming out of Apple and they are of a trashed prototype that was around back in 2011..With a few mods to look legit (small dock connector, etc) Why? To try and make everyone forget about what we saw last year, prior to the 4S announcement...

It may not look exactly like this, but I bet this is more along the lines of what we are going to see come October.

Tell people they are going to get a bigger screen by controlled leaks for months and they better deliver one. Would be silly to do otherwise (Although lets be honest all the rumours didn't do them much damage last year.)

So I think it would only really make sense to leak like this if they are:
A) going to deliver a 16:9 phone but with a different design or
B) Keep the screen proportions the same and grow the whole phone

But like last year we might just be hoping too much. There was lots of evidence that there was no iphone5 but people clung onto the idea. The parts leaks have been the best indicator recently. These parts might be decoys/prototype or on the money. They are too detailed to be fakes in my opinion.

You'll notice that all these "real and legit" photos that are surfacing have huge watermarks through them with a website URL on them. That is an excellent way to advertise for a site, me thinks.

Let's try it.

Here is a legit photo of a piece of metal that is going to be used in the next iPhone. It was sent to us by a confidential source close to Apple:

On a more serious note, did anyone pick up what Tim Cook said yesterday at D10? "On iPhone, developers can design their app to target only one screen size".

Yes exactly I heard that in the interview too! To me it suggests that the screen size will stay the same why else would he have made such a rant about the lack of fragmentation ect if it were to change. And personally leaking stuff like this seems like doubling down as it really does mask the truth!

maybe this is what Tim meant by 'doubling down' on secrecy - keep the products a secret AND release redundant designs to put everyone off, so that if the actual design is leaked, people don't know which one to believe is real.

i'll believe it when i see an actual screen panel, like with the retina ipad screen.

otherwise im not going to believe this, i think they need to make the screen a little wider too not just make it longer. i think thats ugly :S

Still don't really believe this.

Especially when Tim said: "We're going to double down on secrecy on products. I'm serious."

I think this is precisely why he said that.

----------

Am I the only one who would be more happy with thickness reduction than anything? I would prefer a 4 inch iPhone with the body of an iPod

Won't see it with the battery size that will be necessary to power LTE.

they probably "leak" those on purpose to overshadow the SOLD OUT GS3 launch.

i dont believe anything anymore, at the end of the day itll turn out to be another 3.5 screen

I agree. Is it me, or will this new model look more "feminine"? Reminds me of many years ago when the cigarrette companies marketed cigarettes to women by making them taller and slender.

Losing his touch? You don't redesign for no good reason at all. The iPhone 4/4S design is probably the most beautiful thing Apple has ever made. While I would like to see a redesign as well, it's only if it's actually nicer than what's out there already. Those photos yesterday with the panel on the back are NOT it.

I really hope this isn't real.

Since 2007 we've seen five iterations of the iPhone. That's a new iPhone every year. In those annual offerings, three redesigns. I don't just mean upgrades, but radical redesigns that somehow encapsulates the iconic look of iPhone, but still look completely different from the previous form. On average that's a new direction in aesthetics every 1.6 years.

A schematic of the sixth generation iPhone, and it's showing the same design since 2010 with a slightly larger screen? If that's the case, Mr. Ive is losing his touch.

Oh yeah?

If you look closely at the schematics the with of this design is :

51.42 mm + 1.77 mm + 1.77 mm = 54,96 mm

iPhone 4S width is 58.6 mm

Something doesn't seem right here.

If they reduced bezel size they could have skinnied the phone down without making the display less wide.

Personally I like this. I don't want my phone to be much bigger than it is right now. I have friends with android phones and some of their phones seem way too big.

I agree, when I first saw the note commercial I got really excited and thought it looked awesome, until the shot of the actor holding it up to his head to take a call, it was almost as big as his entire head!

How wide is the bezel on the iPhone 4/4S, this one is 1.77 mm +0.35 -0.15

Edit : Or 1.43 + 0.05 -0.10

Screen size puzzle solved!

With the release of the plans and photos of parts, together with Tom's stated commitment at the D Conference, I think the screensize puzzle has been solved...

- Apple will release a 4" diagonal screen
- the screen's proportions will be 16:9
- most app's will display in a space confined space equal to the previous model and,
- a special display space will be reserved for other uses (favorites, news feeds, ad, notices...)
- the Home screen has Navbar in lower portion, leaving more space above for another row of app icons
- multimedia presentations will display in the full 16:9 space

This is great news! All the advantages of the 16:9 space together with the consistency of the traditional app space. Best yet, the 'band' opens up unique opportunities for featured elements.

Note as well that the new screen size aligns nicely with the antenna bands, reducing the size of the unused space and cleaning up the overall design. Apple keeps 'polishing the diamond'.

Still don't really believe this.

Especially when Tim said: "We're going to double down on secrecy on products. I'm serious."

"The more you tighten your grip Tarkin, the more star systems slip through your fingers."

It was a dumb thing for Cook to say. The more secrecy there is, the more page views there are in having leaks. The more page views there are in having leaks, the greater the financial incentives to collate leaked information and to leak information. The greater the financial incentive, the more it will happen irrespective of any security threats.

The one thing guaranteed to engender leaks is to try and crack down on leaks.

That schematic pretty much says it all then.

My personal take is that Apple is intentionally letting these images out to keep people from getting their hopes up for a complete re-design. There was a lot of disappointed people last year (especially after the delayed release) when the design didn't change. And even more this year, expectations where very high for a complete redesign. These leaks kill hopes for a new design, but by the time this phone hits the streets, people will be used to the idea that the new iPhone will look very much like the old one.

No it doesn't, only the revealing of the new iPhone will.

people are so gullible. apple goes to great length to create fake projects to even their own employees. just because it has some blueprint jumbo on there, doesn't make it any more real than a case.
