This new iPhone sucks.
It's even less ergonomic than the current sucky slab, where I have to hold the edges in an uncomfortable manner (3GS my favorite in this department).
Impressive that you've been able to hold and use the new iPhone already to determine it's less ergonomic.

Look at the resemblance to micro usb, why not just make it micro usb, to make more money? I think so. Tim Cook is a much more money hungry man then Steve Jobs ever was, I don't like it.

Also why put the headphone connector on the bottom when it has showed on polls that it is favored on the top. Maybe so on the Iphone5s, they can switch it back to lure iphone 5 users to again get the lastest phone.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

This is exactly what irritates me about the new design. The loss of the several hundred dollars in peripherals, cases and adapters I'll sustain due to needless redesigns. Going to have to think long and hard about whether to get an iPhone 4S or the new iPhone.
You're just delaying the inevitable.

The case was expected to change anyhow; the iPhone industrial design only lasts a couple of models. That's the nature of consumer electronics.

The increased speaker size on the next generation iPhone will be worth it.

Of course, they could've just kept it at 3:2 and increased the screen normally to something modern, like 4.3 inches. That would have given plenty of battery space.

Or they could have just kept it the same thickness (making it easier to hold btw).

True. It all depends on what their priorities are.

My guess would be to add more battery. If the new phone has an LTE chip, which uses more power than the current chips in the iPhone, it is going to need more battery capacity to keep the same battery life as current iPhones.

I can't imagine them coming out with a new phone and having to admit it gets less battery life than previous iPhones.

I've read several times that although the new battery is larger it is minimally more powerful. However, like so many of these discussions/browbeatings we have no real proof of the rumors. That is why I'll be waiting to purchase the new iPhone until AFTER it is on the market.

Smartest thing to do!

I have no problem with the minor change of shape. As I said before, I always buy the SwitchEasy case which comes with an adapter that enables me to use it with peripherals without removing the case.

As to the speakers, for me they will always be inadequate which is why I bought the ShoqBox bluetooth external speakers. Works great with the iPhone and the iPad, AND it's a hands-free speaker phone. :)

With an adapter, yes! Each new iPhone case I get from SwitchEasy comes with an adapter that allows the new iPhone to fit securely into the connector bay.

I'm referring to the elongated design (which is why I said "old Dock Connector). A long iPhone wouldn't fit in an older iPod dock even if it had the right Dock Connector adapter. I'll bet that's why Apple decided to change the Dock Connector now; they might as well do it since the iPhone 5 wouldn't work with old docks anyway because of the size.

Headphone jack makes 10x more sense this way around. Despise phones or devices that have it at the top, but then again it could be worse, it could be on the side of the device *cough* Blackberry *cough*.

Can't understand the people moaning about it. Why on earth would anyone flip their hand around their phone 180 degrees just to put it in their pocket, and vice versa?

I don't think many really care about this. At least they are using a standard 3.5mm jack, they could be pulling the same crap and making it proprietary. I should thank Apple for being so kind.

Sorry, but I'm not following you. The only portion of the iPhone that fits into my devices is the base. The depth and the width are taken care of with the SwitchEasy adapter, but the length has nothing to do with it.

OMG people need to stop complaining about the new connector. Same thing happened with original iPod. It was Firewire, then went to 30 pin connector. No big deal. I'm 100% sure Apple will make adapters for non-adapters, lol.

I love the new connector. I wish it was a magsafe connector, but this is still better than micro usb. :apple:

I'm wondering if it is a bigger/better speaker or if they just put more holes on that side for cosmetic purposes to balance out the headphone/microphone side. Hopefully it's a great new speaker.

I'm glad you are not running the tech world. Because according to your logic, we'll still be using those floppy disk and using dial-up.

FAT32 came to mind... You can't have a file that is larger than 4GB. And I remember getting the "There are too many items in the trash to empty it." error in Windows 98 and raging. Oh, and the infamous "You do not have enough free space to empty the trash. Try deleting files to free up space." :D

Embrace it bro!!! They kept the last one around for 10 years, hopefully they keep this one around the same. Lol, were you irritated when leaded gas quit being sold?? =P You are aware that this charger has the benefits of: charging 2.5 times faster, data 10 times faster, unidirectional (no such thing as plugging in "upside down"), MagSafe, and smaller..? Still mad?

So this is news?
Is there a reason why they didn't use mini USB since they decided to switch?

What is it that you think this new plug will do differently?

I'll tell you what it does. Saves Apple a little bit in manufacturing cost, and gets them new revenue from sales of peripherals.

AKA, the big innovation is increased bandwidth in cash flow from your wallet to Cupertino.

When I first heard that it might be mag-safe I was thrilled with the idea. However, without that feature I'm just not impressed.

Exactly! I could at least see some benefit in it...

As it is, it's just another metaphorical pimp slap from Apple demanding we hand over more money.

Um, none of these are true.

If indeed it has those features, (2.5 times faster, data 10 times faster, unidirectional, MagSafe) it will definitely give me pause to reevaluate.

Now THAT'S funny! :)

It's more natural for me so I can just stick It into the poket without worrying about earbud being broken

That and if it's laying on your desk with the headphones plugged in, it is more convenient on the bottom so you can still have the phone laying the normal direction with less intrusion from the headphone cord...

If that were the case, they'd change it every year.

Perhaps, but there's a lot of room on each side compared to the old phone. Looks wider to me, which could be a good thing.
