I put a gloss clear film on the sides of my silver 13 Pro Max. Now I don’t have worry about scratches or fingerprints.

That the silver? Do you have pro or pro max?
Graphite 13 Pro.
Ouch, sorry to see that!

How did it happen- a drop? Do you keep it caseless, or was this just from taking it out of a case?
I honestly couldn’t say. I saw this thread and figured I’d give ‘er a once over. I only took off the case last night after work so less than 24 hours.
Builds character!
This one gets it!
Wow, those are pretty deep scratches.
I don’t mind it. If I were concerned about scratches I would have continued using the leather case that ran me $60. I trade in with Apple every year and they don’t seem to care.

Steel is softer (Mohs scale) than silica (i.e. sand), so if you have any dust or other particles that get under the case, it will scratch the steel.

Which clear film for the sides are you using if you don’t mind me asking?
XtremeSkins. I like that I can apply it wet and it dries clear and it really is hard to tell it is applied. It gives the phone more grip in my hands. I put it on and use a clear case as well. The silver scratches very easily and I did not want to worry about it scratching. Right now I am using the clear skin for the 12 Pro Max. It is not a perfect fit but it will get be by until I receive the skin made for the 13 Pro Max. XttemeSkins ship from the UK.

Why even bother? It’s a phone, not a painting. I use my phone naked, and sure, if I get a scratch on the screen the first day it would annoy me, but on the steel side? Wouldn’t care a single bit, and there’s not too much to do about it. Return to Apple? Please do and keep the ewaste building up.

Enjoy your phone instead!

Welp, that didn't take long.

Since the iphone 11 pro max. I mostly use my phones caseless. BUT i always use a sleeve to avoid scratches. Either a Fitbag or an Adore June.

I had the 12PM since launch and sold it few weeks ago to upgrade. The phone was in immaculate condition (not a single scratch on it). These sleeves really help a lot when you want to caseless and keep the phone in mint condition.

P.S. i never use a screen protector either :)

I can’t stand micro scratches let alone a scratch that is clearly visible. My 13 Pro went straight into the Apple leather case and the is kept in a microfibre sunglasses pouch when in my pocket to stop any dust getting in the speaker or charging port and silica getting between the case and stainless band.

If I see damage (especially on an Apple product) I have to get rid.

It must be nice to not care about damage on tech, alas I’m not that person.

Plus point of this anality is when I sell my old stuff on eBay it always gets a decent price and good feedback.

I use sleeves too for my 13 Pro when I go out, although they’re just cheap handmade ones from a seller on eBay. Never get scratches, my old 11 Pro was absolutely pristine when I sent it off to Apple. I never use cases as they harbour grit over time which causes micro scratches.

if you want to impact the long term health of your battery sure...... not all of us do wireless charging.
Luckily I exchange every year, so it doesn’t bother me too much… also a new battery is about $70??

TBH,I’m not crazy about wireless charging… I’m just extra careful inserting the cable

I’m getting apple care more in case my kids smash my phone and I have to majorly repair it. But even still I thought I would try caseless, but, I’m just not man enough.

OP I have removed and reinstalled cases on every phone mainly 3rd party and sometimes apple and never got a scratch out of it.

Hate to say it.. but are you installing (or removing) it wrong?

I've used mainly inductive charging on my 12 pro max, 11 pro max, XS, X and never had any negative impact on battery health and all were still 100% after 1 year.

But yea if I was to charge via lightning, I'm always careful to insert it.
