Why even bother? It’s a phone, not a painting. I use my phone naked, and sure, if I get a scratch on the screen the first day it would annoy me, but on the steel side? Wouldn’t care a single bit, and there’s not too much to do about it. Return to Apple? Please do and keep the ewaste building up.

Enjoy your phone instead!
Do you use AppleCare, or do you just play it extra careful with the phone as you go naked with it?

I have a 12 Mini I've used for the last year, naked (no AppleCare)- but I do have a leather sleeve that I carry it in when I take it out of the house. I have never once dropped a phone, I am careful- and it looks as new as the day it came out of the box.

I have a silver 13 Pro on order, and am thinking of doing the same- leather sleeve for when I take it out of the house, but no case.... I am debating, though as it is bigger than the mini and might be a bit easier to accidentally drop. A slim leather case would be nice, but then it would take away from the absolute beauty of the phone.

Since the iphone 11 pro max. I mostly use my phones caseless. BUT i always use a sleeve to avoid scratches. Either a Fitbag or an Adore June.

I had the 12PM since launch and sold it few weeks ago to upgrade. The phone was in immaculate condition (not a single scratch on it). These sleeves really help a lot when you want to caseless and keep the phone in mint condition.

P.S. i never use a screen protector either :)
Do you use AppleCare, or just the sleeve and an extra bit of caution when taking the phone out of the sleeve?

First time with AppleCare actually, never had it before. I don’t really know why I purchased it really, but it is a comfort blanket for sure.

I’ve shattered one display since my first cell phone in 1995. ? Yes, some of my earlier phones were worn to bits, but these days the quality is so good on iPhones.

I baby my devices and an almost ultra paranoid about being careful, so I have never dropped one in the ten years I've had smartphones.... but something about getting the Pro- with its higher price tag makes me a bit more paranoid, and I suspect I might end up getting a leather case for it just for that added peace of mind, in case it did ever fall or bump into anything. (though I am going to try first with just the leather sleeve and see how it goes)

I bought now this case. It is suppose to have microfiber in it. I remember this was same issue with iPhone 5 and 5s (silvermodel). I therefore bought gold, just as I did now. But to be even more safe, I bought this case too.

595 SEK or 69 bucks but well worth the money.

I have protected my iphone backglass with plastic contact paper or with some carbon looklike skin when I use hard plastic cases. ?‍♂️

We dont have applecare in my country but we have something similar (full cover phone insurance) which i use because in case something happen to the phone (stolen, broken screen etc) i am f***ed.

But in general using the phone with the sleeve keeps the phone in pristine condition! I never dropped any of my phones before but you never know :)

TMI

I use sleeves too for my 13 Pro when I go out, although they’re just cheap handmade ones from a seller on eBay. Never get scratches, my old 11 Pro was absolutely pristine when I sent it off to Apple. I never use cases as they harbour grit over time which causes micro scratches.
I haven't experienced this problem, although I imagine it's very dependent upon both the case in question and the particular user's habits/environment. Right now I'm looking carefully at my recently-retired and always-cased XS Max. I can't see any micro scratches (I guess they could be there, but I don't see anything). But if, say, I lived at the beach and I regularly found sand in my pockets...and/or used a poorly-fitting case...then maybe it would be a different story.

Use it for a few months and the paranoia will go away. It’ll turn into just another phone. A tool. I’ve used a naked XS for three years, and the stainless sides look new still.

Bleh both watch and phone in silver Steel look battered. Part of life

The first scratch is always tough. When I had my 12PM last year, a few months in I dropped it while caseless and it had a dent in the bezel (so not even a scratch but even worst lmao). Bothered me for about a week and I got over it. I get a new phone every year anyways.

I don’t think the back glass is the concern with cases. That glass doesn’t scratch easily. It’s the stainless steel sides that are soft and are also under friction when putting on or taking off cases.

It's not so bad. The fingerprints hide it really well. :)
I discovered the same scratches on my Graphite this morning. Oddly, it happened while taking the case in and out of the Apple Leather case (I wanted to give it another chance, so I bought it again). Mine is on the side with the volume buttons. In fact, that whole side is a mess: same scratches as yours and a white dot that looks like a chip. Maybe it has something to do with me following Apple’s directions by inserting the phone into the case volume side first.

Don’t go using a light and magnifying glass to look over the top edge of the frame. They all have some slight nicks in them. Some not visible to eye some extremely visible. Even my current “good” one for example, if I shine a bright light around the top frame edges I’ll get one or two spots of light reflection caused by a pin dot frame ding. Acceptable to me.

My guess is , it’s caused by lack of machine calibration and cleaning in the factory. Done so to prevent less down time. They have targets lol.

I don't even notice the fingerprints anymore. Once you stop thinking about it you just focus on what's important which is what's on the screen. The phone feels so nice in its birthday suit.

I seem to notice that too. on the rims appears like slight nicks or maybe some issues but those don't seem to bother me. It's the scratches on the actual sides that would. I fortunately have one there the sides are scratch free on Sierra blue. I did pick up the 512 gb today and right out of the box did have a scratch on the stainless steel right around the silent switch. That went back immediately.

Spot on brother. A little pin prick that appears as a glitter speck I can live with. But not the chunks scrapes that my first iPhone 12 PM had or to a slightly lesser extent my first 13PM.

I just happened to get my hands on a FitBag last night that was on sale- it's slightly bigger as it's not designed directly for my model (I have a 13 Pro, the bag is for an XS Max)- and it still fits pretty well, with just a little bit of space- a few mm- on the sides, and a bit of space at the top. I might just keep it even though it's not an extremely tight fit. Amazingly good quality material!
