As an update to my series 0 with screen popped off due to battery, Apple just replaced it with a new series 1 Watch. Very nice.

The only frustration was that the first time I went into the Apple store the tech told me it wasn't covered because the watch was out of standard 1 year warrantee. Thanks to this thread, I learned about the battery issue and quality program for series 0 Watches. So, I took it back and got someone who understood that the quality program supersedes the 1 year standard warranty. Anyway, all is well now.

Spoke with Apple Canada via chat, a box is coming today so I can ship this series 0 42mm sport back. No obvious signs of battery bulging when I peak inside, so it could be heat making the glue loose, or the battery swelled a bit at one point and shrunk back to normal.

Let us know if they sent you a Series 1 instead of s0

are you going to get s3 now?

No, the S0 was already enough for my needs. The replacement S1 with a faster CPU is now well beyond my needs. Although if the S2 Stainless drops in price a bit more, I'll get it.

I went yesterday to Apple Covent Garden and the tech guy who saw it, immediately recognized it was a swollen battery, told me not to worry as I obviously didn't do it myself. It was out of warranty, bought in April 2016.

Weird thing is that he told me it might take up to 2 weeks? He also mentioned that they would either repair ir of exchange if (most likely).

I will let you know if I get a Series 0 or Series 1. By the way, my iPhone is on iOS 10.2. Will the watch come to the same version it was sent?

You will likely receive a Series one. And you will likely have to update the Apple Watch OS to the latest version when you receive it.

How long did it take for everyone’s service status to update? I had this happen to my watch last week had a Genius Bar appointment on Tuesday and was told the watch had to be sent out and it would take 3-5 business days I just checked the repair status and it still says service requested.

Jeez, that I can't do. I need to have it on the system with iOS 10.2 because I use my phone for work and the app has not been updated yet.

Is there any work around this?

I am extremely upset with Apple right now.

The screen of my first gen watch had popped off while I was still under AppleCare so I got an express replacement service.

Last week, my spouse's watch (first gen, too) had the same issue. We found out that the AppleCare was expired a month ago! I made an appointment with Apple. A guy wrote a note after looking at the watch with me saying the battery was slightly swollen so I thought that would be covered by the 3 year replacement plan. I got a copy of his note.

Today, I got an email from Apple to check my repair status. Somebody at the repair center said the battery was not swollen. I am left with two options either pay 249 dollars to have it repair (aka put the stupid glue in place) or have it return broken. I am furious because this is a known issue that their glue is ******. Both my watch (which was already sold) and my spouse's were used with great care. We do not swim or use it in the shower. I do not know what options I have here. Do you think if I choose to pay 249, can I get that reimbursed from my credit card company? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Initially, Apple told you the battery was slightly swollen and the repair center said it's not. Perhaps you could raise the issue based off what you originally told that it appeared swollen. Otherwise, what are they saying that caused the display to separate?

I can't speak for your credit card company, you would have to confirm with them on how that would all mesh. But perhaps you could get a second opinion from Apple and see if there something else that they can offer in your situation.

I am out of luck here and very pissed. I told the support via chat that the Genius Bar staff and I agreed that the battery was swollen. This is what he replied: "the man at the store may have had an initial thought as to what the problem as but the technician who observed your Watch during the repair has physically looked into your Watch and has investigated the issue thoroughly and found that this was not the issue causing your watch which is why you were requited as per the email you received".

I bought my SS S0 watch in May 2015 on launch date. A year later my screen detached, so I got it exchanged for a new one. Today my screen fell off my replacement Watch! I can’t believe it. The second time!

I didn’t check the battery swelling but I just glued it down and all seems fine.

However, I am quite nervous now about it swelling and exploding whilst I’m wearing it or charging it by my bed.

Can someone reassure me that I won’t end up in a ball of flames whilst I’m walking the dog?

Is the glued down screen a battery accident waiting to happen, or just commonly weak screen adhesive?

Do you have anything that you recommend to glue the watch together? I am not paying for 249 just to have that POS glued (AppleCare expired last month and Apple said the battery was not swollen). Thank you.

When my series 2 broke (the glass fractured around the edges and popped off) i got nowhere with apple, even though it happend within a week after i recieved it!!! Like in your case i had two options, get my broken watch back for 50$ Service fee or buy a replacement for around 500$ (My conversion from local currency)!!! I bought the replacement and complained to my creditcard company. An apple representative responded by e-mail after my complaint. They clearly had a bad case since my cc company reimbursed me in full. Have had no problems with my replacement.

I know this is not the answer you're going to want to read and you're free to do what you want, but I would not do that on your own. Albeit, your AppleCare is expired, If you glue the Apple Watch and something else goes wrong, Apple won't even look at the Watch knowingly if you repaired it yourself. Just my advice.

If you contact Apple, make sure to say that it was obviously defective from manufacture and they should repair it for free.

Friends wife just had her S1 battery swell and face popped out. Apple is repairing/replacing it out of warranty for her. He didn't know or care that this is a way a battery can fail so he wasn't very pleasant (it being on his wives wrist) when he called Apple. Not sure if that mattered or not when it came to the out of warranty replacement.

He was happy enough with the service that he bought her an S3 GPS and is going to resell or gift the S1.

That's not really how it works. Apple has to be able to inspect the device first and then make a decision if it is defective or if it was something that the owner caused. Anybody can tell Apple anything they want on the phone, but upon inspection either by sending it in or making a genius appointment, that allows Apple at least inspect the device if it was a defect, then they will move forward with the replacement process.

They will document the owners observations of what is wrong with the Apple Watch, but if they believe it something otherwise other than a defect, they will contact you ahead of time.

Thats Why Apple quotes the user a repair fee if they determined that the watch was not defective if it needs out of warranty repair, which may have been caused by the owner.

The same now happened to my Series 6. The screen is just hanging in its cable. The battery is not swollen but health is down to 72%. So I will stop using it and wait for the supposedly Series 11 to be release this autumn.

Very old thread but I am betting that your battery is swollen and likely did cause your screen to pop!
