We had our iPads for a while, no Screen Protectors and none have any Scratches *knock-on-wood*.

I find only iPhone/touch gets scratched because we tend to put them in our pockets/purses. Again we don't both with any screen protectors.

I understand scratches and dings on an iPhone--I've dropped mine countless times onto pavement, and I shove it in a different purse or clutch everyday-- but the iPad?? What are you doing with a $800 device to get scratches on it??

my thoughts exactly

Wow so you don't see even an accident that might scratch it as a possibility. Interesting.

I let my cats play with my iPad (yes, there are iPad cat games out there) and no scratches yet. Maybe one day a scratch will occur, but IMO it's not worth using a screen protector and losing the smoothness of the glass and oleophobic coating.

Well, in my case and some others that I've read, playing games on the screen resulted in very light scratches (likely the coating). You can't see them unless you clean the screen and reflect light off of it at a certain angle, but they are definitely scratches.

I would guess that many people here think they have zero scratches, but actually do have ones like I've described above. Not calling anyone a liar, just suggesting that you may not know they are present because you haven't looked carefully enough under the right lighting. And maybe that's not a problem for you. But when I sell this thing at some point, I really want to be confident in describing it as "perfect". That's why I'm using a skin on both sides.

It's either that, or some batches of iPads have a softer coating than others. But please don't imply that we're all using it improperly.

I feel like I'm always negative on here... but seriously people, stop buying into gimmicks like screen protectors. JUST TAKE CARE OF YOUR THINGS.

I take extreme care of my toys and gadgets. I'm pretty sure my scratches came from using the smart cover.

MAKE SURE TO CLEAN YOUR SMART COVER BEORE EVERY CLOSE.

The screens aren't scratching themselves. Something the end user is doing is scratching them. How about washing your hands once in a blue? Or using a clean microfiber cloth to gently wipe the fingerprints? Or covering the screen when not in use?

So much wisdom to take in. Yes the screens do not scratch themselves . . . unlike some here.:p

I found a way to avoid scratches on my iPad 2: use a decent stylus pen like the Griffin Technology Stylus:

Works for me! :)

How do you use multitouch with that?

You're right, something we are doing is scratching the screen. In my case it was my wife playing Fruit Ninja which left very characteristic arched scratches across the screen in landscape orientation.

Thanks, your tips are incredibly helpful.

 Remind me not to play Fruit Ninja on my iPad.. it's fun on the smaller iphone screen though. If I were you I would take it to the Apple store and see what they can do for you. It shouldn't scratch like that under normal use..

I already took it back for the bleeding issue. They gave me a new one which has Ghost Armor installed on it now. Not taking any chances with this one!

I covered my iPad1 with a Power Support antiglare mostly so I could use it outside, improves the glare a lot. Sold it in pristine condition, (also had a back skin on it and used a case).
Now with my iPad2, I'm loving the feel of the naked screen, and am wanting to leave it this way. I do worry about scratches, they really detract from the nice design, but so do screen covers, matte ones anyway.
I would hate to get a scratch, what to do....
I didn't think fingernails could scratch the glass. I think it is many times, tiny particles of dirt, sand, or rock that stick to your hand, to covers, rags, etc. that get wiped on to it.
I'll probably put another matte screen on it, but a cheaper one that Power Support, they're good, but not worth $30+ to me anymore.

I baby the thing and I have scratches on the glass :( I use a smart cover since second one. just not sure what did it.

how do you clean the glass? i have been using a soft tissue with a drop of water. maybe thats what did it ?

Do not use a tissue!!!!!!! it will scrath the screen, use a microfiber cloth

thanks. i got a replacement on my second i pad i will use them the same and use a microfiber to clean. the 2nd one then compare the one with scratches to the new one. i am letting my kid play fruit ninja as i type this so i will look if there are scratches. made him wash his hands before he played with the ipad. do you ever use a little water with the micro cloth?

After all the bad luck I've had with iPhone 4 (have had to do a few exchanges and haven't gotten ONE unit, refurb or new, that has had a cosmetically perfect antenna band), I will not even look at my iPad 2 until it's protected with all the stuff I ordered for it.

I am putting a screen protector and a "rear" protector on it, then a case like I have on my iPhone, and it will be transported to and from work in a hard case when it's not being used. I am not going to inspect it for flaws right when I take it out of the box, because I am afraid I will find one and it will drive me crazy. Covers tend to hide flaws and I'm just going to hope for the best.

Apple makes such cool stuff, but I believe they are incapable of shipping a cosmetically perfect product.

You won't need water on the microfiber cloth. Just wipe gently in a circular motion, enough to get the fingerprints off.

I've had my original iPad for about 8 months and have a couple of very minor scratches to the surface. Hardly noticeable and the iPad has very heavy use. I do have a case on it, but the cover flaps opens very easily and numerous items have been discovered floating between the cover and screen when I've got it out of my bag. No screen protector though, could never apply one to my iPhone without getting air bubbles so didn't bother with the iPad.

My one-year-old has crawled on the screen, slapped it (when I wasn't looking) and even vomited all over it on one occasion and it still looks and works absolutely fine.

I'm thinking Apple has their new commercial for the iPad 2.

then there is a quality control problem because one out of two of my ipads is terrible!

I only have a smart cover i didnt think i wanted anything else like zaag shield etc... BUT my screen has a few scratches after less then a week! What will it be like in a month or two. Anyone else seem to have scratches as well?

How do I prevent this? I am babying the thing but it doesnt help :(

Cut your fingernails and file them is one thing you do also to prevent scratches. ;)

The first thing I did when I bought my iPad was to get ghost armor on that puppy.

Some people discount the need of a screen protector on an iPad (or an iphone_ but as soon as a scratch appears they'll wish they had one.

Just buy a cheap ipad 2 screen protector from ebay. I got 3 of them from a USA seller (cause I knew USA seller would ship to me in 3-4 days from New York). He only charged $5.25

Works perfectly. I messed up on the first screen protector. But got the second one to be applied almost perfectly with 3 super small bubbles. It even had the hole cut for facetime, although it didn't have the additional hole for the mic ontop of the facetime camera. I just used a cut my own little space to clear room for the microphone.

Still looks very good and cheap.

News flash: there is no hole for the mic above the FaceTime camera. That's a light sensor. The mic hole is on the top edge of the device and your screen protector should not be up there.

No scratches, but is being replaced tonight for light bleed.

I bought a screen guard today to put on it when I swap it over.

Will get the Genius to install it so I can avoid any nasty bubbling.

Geniuses will not install screen covers for you, genius.
