So I just finished cloning my drive and running it. Some first impressions:

1) It is freakin' loud. I mean I can hear it; it's louder than my fan at 4000 RPM.
2) It vibrates like crazy; I can feel the whole computer vibrating. Not fun.
HOWEVER
3) It is a bit faster. Just a bit; probably because I have way too much stuff on my drive.

Anyways some results from XBench:

I'm actually a bit disappointed with the minor boost.

I'm sure Seagate has learned from their mistake and this drive has been fully tested. I mean, if this drive fails like the other one I would never buy another Seagate drive again so they can't take that chance.
Seagate is already on double secret probation with me.

Do you have a unibody? Couldnt tell by your sig.

It's pretty bad.

Yeah I have the unibody. I need it to run the LED Cinema display ;)

Y'all know when you have your phone on vibrating on your desk? That's what the computer is like right now.

I think I might return it and call it a day.

Aaah- of course. ;)

Another dumb question- but did you close all other apps and do a restart before the xbench test?

Those figures are close to what I got off my old 320GB 5400rpm. They just dont seem right. How much free space do you have?

I'm actually a bit disappointed with the minor boost.

This is what's most relevant to my needs. I'm not in much need for lots of random access (where the Seagate excels). Considering they're effectively the same a sustained read/write, I'd go with the Samsung.

"I find it odd that macrumors' test is so much slower than the tests we're running here on notebookreview. i know seagate is a win or lose situation tho as some are loud some are quiet and such"

There's something seriously not right with those speeds, I am going to venture to say that something is seriously wrong with how you tested that.

440GB :D

And that out of the 486GB usage and not including the 32GB I allocated to Boot Camp. I guess I had like 6GB of free space.

Yeah- thats an absolutely massive difference.

How much space was used/free when you:
A) Ran the 1st test
B) Ran the 2nd test

Have broken down the 2 test scores below.
1st Test he did in RED

SEQUENTIAL

You gave a benchmark of a new 500gb harddrive which only had 6gb of free space left, and you failed to mention that alongside your results?

when you fill up a hd that much it slows it down to snail speed obvious reason why the scores were trash
