That's laughably absurd. USB-C is no where near as common as people on tech blogs pretend it is.
Apple themselves are adopting USB-C in other devices. I have no new device that isn’t USB-C. Knock off Airpods are using USB-C. Maybe it’s not true for you, but they can’t keep this lighting narrative going for much longer.

I’m saying we’re getting to the point we will have more USB-C cables around. So we can use the ones we already have. Instead of replacing. Sorry I thought I was clear in what I wrote.
For whatever it's worth my cables are all over the place:

- Have one usb-c to usb-c for the ipad prod
- Have a number of recently purchased lithium battery operated devices that have usb-a to usb-c
- Have other battery operated devices with usb-a to micro-usb
- And then of course the usb-a to lightning for the apple gear
- Have one usb-c to lightning that I bought for my car to charge my phone. Car also has usb-a connector.

My spouse unwittingly purchased a 36 watt amazon basics usb-c charger. I found it charges my phone fairly fast. So I use the one usb-c to lightning to charge my phone with it, sometimes. Point is overwhelmingly the brick end of these cables are usb-a -- except for two cables.

There are those that argue (not me), that wireless charging should be removed from all devices due to it's inherent wastefulness. (specious argument imo)
Far far more wasteful than any “waste” by using Lightning vs USBC.

I hope its USB-C, would be nice to slowly get all my tech inline with USB-C and ditch a swathe of cables.

I'm also excited for APP2, and any improvements they can muster up.

Some points are made. But I don't feel inconvenienced. Nor do I believe sticking with lightning on airpods pro 2 is anti-competitive. In fact, it's better for the environment if they don't include a cable.
It is anticompetitive because the whole point is keeping competitors away from manufacturing cables, UNLESS they pay a licensing fee. Which gets rolled over to consumers, increasing price for no particular good reason.

If they actually opened up and made a connector EVERYONE could use royalty feee, we wouldn’t be here. We’d all bue using Lightning cables and not getting frustrated with the USB-Mess. But for Apple, there is always more to something than the thing itself. Sometimes it’s a good thing, sometimes they shoot themselves in the foot with no way for a gracious exit.

Personally, I like the Lightning connector BETTER than USB-C. The size, the feel when you plug it in is amazing compared to USB. But I wore out my Apple cables 3x faster and at 3x the price of others. So it’s 3x as bad for the environment AND 3x as bad for my wallet. ;)

AND…it’s SO SLOW 2.0…..

And it’s not a big inconvenience for me either. But it is one of the inconveniences. And charging the Magic Keyboard with Lightning and iPad Pro with USB. It’s a little inelegant and not very Appley.

I'm not sure it makes sense arguing about whether using USB-C or lightning is friendlier for the environment when you consider that the Airpods themselves are e-waste after maybe 2 or 3 years of useful life.
For myself I won't buy (just like I won't buy iPhone 14) until Apple switches over to USB-C.
There is a, as of yet undiscovered, black hole for single socks and Airpods.

If you loose a dollar from your wallet, it’s no biggie. It’s just a dollar. If 1 million people loose a dollar…it’s a million dollars. Wireless charging definitely needs to become more energy efficient…

It's not anti-competitive as Apple (as well as every other firm that has a patent on some invention) is allowed to charge for use of their IP. Unless you hold the position that patents are just an unnecessary headache.

Why should they? When I pay $3 for a lightning cable that works, I don't see what the issue is. Maybe this your issue, but overall I don't believe it's being framed properly.

Okay, I don't really go through these cables.

I haven't noticed, but the specs on paper do lag.

My cable collection is out of control. Not because of lighting, but because of a mixture of usb-c and micro usb.

While correct, balance that out against cables that end up in e-waste due to usage. Also, induction charging mats for Teslas' waste a percentage of energy on a hugely bigger scale and those aren't going away either.

Wireless charging isn’t as efficient as wired but it’s still good and the convenience and *actual* broad compatibility is worth it to me. That energy efficiency gap may be lessened further by the fact that they last much longer than cables for most people and aren’t ending up in landfills as much.

This probably depends on the iPhone going USB-C. Doubt it’s happening, sadly.

Lightning is too consistent to make that migration yet.

Apple should take their time to make that maneuver, and not accommodate to a small percentage of people that need to have USB-C, when the majority of accessories and products are lightning capable. Not only that, Lightning is extremely consistent, and is a huge monopoly for Apple in the third-party sector.

I can see the Beats models that are still Lightning and Micro USB(!!!) receiving USB-C upgrades.

What a bummer..
This has become ridiculous

Just get all the new products onto USB-C already

It's become a total PITA to have some on this, some on that...
I understand different strokes for different folks, I also understand that on an online forum, hyperbole reigns supreme, however I fail to see why it's a PITA. When I travel with my laptop I have a small plastic sandwich bag that contains a few cables and a few bricks. I would never travel with one cable as I'd be out of luck if it stopped working. I also carry a spare 30000 mah anker battery.

As I said, different strokes for different folks.

Nope. The perceived popularity of USB-C is a tech blog delusion.

Not a tech blog delusion — just fact. Is there another cable that’s remotely comparable in popularity?

95%+ of non-Apple devices use USB-C, as well as a number of Apple devices.

In what world is there a more popular cable?

I'll never understand folks who defend anything and everything Apple does.

Reminds me of the "MuskRats"

(defending everything coming out of Elons cult of personality)
