I'd like to see the below just to keep choices simple for consumers whatever their usage.

Drop the Pro name, all models equal Ram and chip - A10X. Same cameras front and back. 4 speakers. Pencil support. Smart Keyboard support. Same external design. Same coloured Apple smart covers and cases for all sizes. Same screen i.e. True tone and full colour gamut. The same iOS features on all models.
THEN Apple can can new features - e.g. 3D Touch to each model once all the specs are equal whether or not the size needs the A10X/Ram. E.G. The 7.9 model might not need 4GB of Ram but it wiill still have it.

iPad 7.9
iPad 10.5
iPad 12.9

Just called iPad. (Super.Computer. 3 sizes) The only difference is the size. Anything else is just a pain in the butt to think about. Life is busy enough.

Personally I just think the Pro 9.7 should just go away and an Air in either 9.7 or 10.5 inch should be retained but with the specs and features of the 9.7 Pro, but at the price of the Air.

IMHO

- iPad Mini 7.9
- iPad 10.5
- iPad+ 12.9

Very simple :D
The iPad mini don't sell nothing since the mini 2, and the iPhone plus canibalize in even more, don't have Reason for mini.

I dont care for the 9.7 inch model and the future 10.5 inch. I want an 12.9 inch Ipad Pro 2.

This rumor is all over the map... I suspect we'll see them keeping to the existing sizes while tweaking bezels, feature sets and marketing.

So my tab S is currently 10.5in screen. Wait a minute!!! If I cast my mind to the rediculous piss take thread where Samsung are copying Apple by having a shiny black colour. Even they they already do a shiny black, it was a wind up that got the defense league out in force. So what's the difference now they are blatantly copying Samsung in screen size. They pathetically copied the large phone size, and the smaller tablet size. So hey let's copy the middle ground. Embarrassing!! Let me guess tho, they will do 10.5in screens RIGHT!! Is that the phrase.

Waiting for everyone to gloss over the shameless copying tactics of a company so devoid of innovation it's laughable!!!

Laughable is rather this silly rant being purely based on rumours about a potential new product.

At this point I'm not even using my iPad anymore. Grooming files and placing them neatly in the correct boxes for iOS to read properly is such a hassle.

In fact you care so little about that iPad that you needed to visit a site focussing on Apple rumours and waited for a rumour article about the iPad just to let everyone know.

I could see this 10,5 replacing the 9,7 (they could probably make them the same or similar exterior size)

This is my thinking as well. I could see Apple shinking the bezels and removing the mechanical home button to fit the 10.5 screen into similar dimensions of the current 9.7 body and then reducing the overall size of the 12.9.

The mini may remain around as a lower price option.

Those who complain that apple lost its magic are wrong! Apple has been doing its very best to ignore its pro user market. Give them a break.

This is comedy gold!!!! What part of its a wind up thread did you not get.? They have done glossy black since the s7 came out 6 months before the iPhone came out and copied glossy black. So tell.me again how it's the latest in a long line.??
What's your take on small tablets, large phones, pencils, wireless charging, large tablets, waterproof, oled screens and on and on where Apple have shamelessly stolen ideas and designs from Samsung. I bet you haven't the guts to reply to this thread.

small tablets - Again, a screen size is a choice, not a design that you can copy
large phones - See above
pencils - Stylus? Apple had those witht the Newton in 1993 although I'm sure neither Samsung or Apple invented it
wireless charging - The only wireless charging device Apple make is the Apple Watch. IIRC Samsung didn't have wireless charging in their smartwatches prior to this, although I could be wrong
large tablets - See first point, again
waterproof - Not a design that you can copy, it's a specification that is adhered to and set by industry wide standards
oled screens - Again, just a type of display technology and something that can't be copied.

I'm praying for USB C in the iPad and iPhone. That would open a world of usability. We could have the same cables and dongles for the Macbooks and all iDevices.

The USB C market is going to be huge.

That'll fit right in with the
12" rMB
13" MBA
13" rMBP 2015
13" rMBP 2016 w/o Touchbar
13" rMBP 2016
15" rMBP 2015
15" rMBP 2016

because apparently having a clear product line is no longer a priority
12" and 13" laptops (where the 12" rMB is pretty much a waste of time for everyone, just get a MBA)?

I don't have an iPad, nor do I want one, but if I were to buy - it just seems like a confusing mess:
7.9", 9.7", 9.7" Air and 12.9" tablets (and some combination of Pro models there too?) - let's add 10.5" to the mix...

Methinks Apple is copying Samsung strategy of shotgun SKUing.

Brilliant, so the 500 threads on here slagging Samsung for using a certain colour (that they already use by the way) what's your take on that. Can you copy a colour? Don't think anyone's copyrighted black yet? What next.. round corners being sued for? Now that really would be scraping the barrel..

I think you are quickly becoming my fave MR poster, the force is strong in this one lol

As long as the OS is what it is the new hardware is quite irrelevant.
Actually correct. My iPad air as hardware is more capable that what the OS is able to allow. A more openness in the OS will make it more usable. Just because of the OS i'm not upgrading to pro, there's no point.

It depends, you can copy a design though. It's all just a matter of timing really. It just seems funny to a lot of people that Samsung will produce something very closely resembles the product that Apple have just produced a few months earlier.

The glossy black was a bit of a stretch, but that's not to say all the things they've copied in the past have been. Some are just uncanny and as blatant as it gets. Did you even have a look at the link I posted? Do you actually hand on heart believe that Samsung don't copy Apple?

EXCELLENT. We just don't have enough iPads available already. Well worth sidelining the Mac Pro and other desktop Macs for this. Good work, Apple.

That's sarcasm by the way.

I don't get the iPad - it's totally not something that interests me, so it's off my radar. But for the first time in years I looked at what's available. Wow! Talk about a mess!

iPad Pro in 9.7"
iPad Pro in 12.9"
iPad Air 2 in 9.7"
iPad Mini 4 in 7.9"
iPad Mini 2 in 7.9"

If I was buying I'd get seriously confused - there's literally hundreds of different iPads to choose from! Is the iPad Mini 4 better than the iPad Air 2? What happened to the iPad Mini 3? What's the difference between them all?!

Clearly, adding more sizes is what's needed.

More revolutionary changes such as me ever buying another ipad will be in 2018 or maybe never. Depends on how Apple ties it to the mac.

"Apple is launching the 10.5-inch iPad mainly because 10-inch and larger tablets have been popular among enterprises and the education sector in the US, the sources said. Its existing 9.7-inch iPad may be too small and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro too expensive for such procurement, the sources indicated."

The quote above is from the DigiTimes article. That article also states that Apple will launch lower-price versions of the 9.7 inch iPad to compete with Android models. http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20161122PD207.html

I love my 9.7 iPad Pro. Just about my only complaint is that I would like a larger screen size, without having to go to the too big 12.9. So all the rumors about a new iPad Pro in the 10.x" range are music to my ears.
