As a representative of, and spokesperson for the great majority, I hereby completely agree with JonHimself.

And to add something of substance to this thread......

I think the use of a see-through screen would be brilliant for a car's front windshield. The screen can be used to display a GPS map, traffic info, your speed, etc. I think that this would be very useful in helping a driver maintain concentration while driving.

That is how many feel, just don't tell shambo that a similar technology exists and has been safety approved.

Are you suggesting that we scrap advancements in technology in favour of economics?

Not even slightly. I'm a little perplexed at this accusation. All I said was that for the specific situation stated, it wouldn't be economically viable for the train companies to use this type of screen. I didn't say anything about the technology itself, or its usefullness, I merely question the specific example mentioned. Similarly, I wouldn't recommend that someone who likes to use discs as coasters buy special edition imported Blu-ray disks for the purpose, or someone who likes to go sledding buy a top of the line macbook pro in which to do it. Regardless of these context specific doubts, I wholeheartedly support both of the technologies mentioned.

If you were to tell someone with a total £3000 in their bank account it wouldn't be wise to buy a pedigree puppy costing £2500, I wouldn't accuse you of saying that all these dogs should be shot.

This technology is very cool. I'm sure it's a long way off from becoming main stream, and Apple will absolutely not be using this in the next MBP revision or the one after that. I think these types of screens have a lot of potential and it's going to be great to see it develop.

it's cool but it doesn't really seem to be efficient for anything.
i mean, not in a laptop. i can see apple using the technology in other things maybe, but i doubt a laptop.
they could make windows out of it and have the window in your office be a touch screen computer.
i'm not sure if i take that suggestion seriously or not.

either way, if apple used this, i doubt it would just be to be put in a laptop. i don't really see the purpose of a see through laptop screen.

cars? i could definitely see this being used in a car. that would be very very effective.
(i think they said something about it being in a car but i didn't hear the first half of what the guy said.)

cool stuff thoughhhhhhhhh, but i doubt apple will ever release that in a MBP.

This will never be used on laptops, this has a ton of applications and it will be interesting to see this technology incorporated into thing throughout the years. But not computers. When the car that drives itself is invented, the owner of that patent will make a fortune, but until then we probably wont see it. Maybe in airplanes as HUDS, but other than that unlikely.

Altough I kind of would like to see this on the iphone... or tablet. This is more likely to be used on phones.

What else? How bout windows? A giant computerized window that takes up an entire wall of your bedroom would be SICK. Put voice command on that thing and it would be like something out of a movie.

Sorry for DB, but touch would be an awesome idea as well. Imagine in a highrise office. It would be like one of those Aqua oriented Msft multitouch coffee tables. And on the other side of it you could see the city. I dont think I would have a hard time waking up to go to work in that office!
