The reality distortion field worked on all of us, it built Apple, but it can't maintain itself without Steve.

Sorry. As cool a dude as Steve was, Apple can certainly maintain and sustain itself. If I thought there was a better phone out there, I would buy that one. I am very excited to get my 6s. Whatever color I decide upon :)

I think, especially in my case, the issue isn't the product but the delay in availability.
iPad mini 4, order today and we will ship it soon.
iPad pro, yeah here's the latest, in a couple months.
iPhone, here it is but its not available yet but preorder and wait a
2+ weeks.
Same ole same ole.

Don't forget this one...

Apple watch, at least 6 months!

Post 78 On why this is.

the iPhone is entering 9th version. When it was new people were like "OMG an iPhone" because it was a very advanced handheld computer. But 9 versions later, and with several other companies releasing their own devices, people are jaded. If you take a step back for a moment to see what Apple is actually doing. The time, research and development that goes into something like this, its pretty amazing.

And yes a faster processor is huge. People don't give a faster CPU the credit it deserves. Fast CPU's make these new features possible as the more advanced these features are the more power they take to do them. People went on all day about siri on the 4s but no one talked about the CPU in the phone that made that kind of processing possible in a handheld device. They stuff desktop grade processing and Graphics into a single chip the size of a nickel. Look at your desktop and see how big the CPU is, and how big the Graphics card is? Now look at a nickel lol. Granted its not as fast as a new desktop, but its still very fast.

Been here and have been watching this introduction thing for many years and I agree the "atmosphere" in this forum has changed drastically. It is not the mechanics of this forum nor the moderators that have changed, it is the people. People seem more cynical and do not share the group excitement of a new iPhone like I remembered. Society as a whole is not what it used to be just a few years ago, especially among the younger people. The economy and overall health of our country may be partly responsible.

I blame the comments section on almost every social media site out there. People's comments on every website seem to bring about the worst type of people for whatever reason. Also trolls. Everybody seems to search for that troll comment that will get the highest likes and such.just visit more celebrities Tweets and look at the top comments. It's crazy

Because a few years ago the iPhone was new. Now most people have or a similar phone, the upgrades on new models aren't usually essential anymore, the same goes for all phones, and even tablets. You can even say the computer market as a whole has came to this.

The atmosphere around it may have died down, but the sales are going up each year. I wouldn't bet against this year breaking last year's record. Yes availability laster longer, but there is a new colour option added (which adds 6 more options to choose from), the production of this year's iPhone reportedly started earlier, and the launch date is later.

. . . . . and in the business world that's all that matters. The hype has indeed died down, especially with everyone knowing what the phone will be like before it's released (controlled leaks or not). Maybe it'll change in the future.

I think Apple without the hype is not Apple anymore...

The economy has a record level of low employment. It's been a bull market since 2009. Nope, the only thing that is really changing is the internet is getting more mainstream (or dumb). Forums such as this one as well. The ones truly excited over a camera upgrade, processor improvements, or an increase in screen resolution are increasingly a lower percentage (kinda like jailbreaking). The bloggers are the same way. Most don't know which end is up and just worry about how many articles they can post in a day, get some hits, and stick ads in your face. The reviewers, who we'll see in few days with the 6S, are the same way.

It used to be that the most popular forums were the ones that concentrated on modding or hacking your devices. And the users that went to them were a bit more advanced. With iphones, it's just rumors that are the most popular. The majority visiting these type of forums are more interested in how something looks, what color is it, and whether their friends will like them more if they have the latest and greatest despite not being able to afford it.

...to some, 3D touch could be the coolest features and worthy of an upgrade.

It could enhance the whole experience - especially with the new haptic feedback. Hard to tell right now.

My one reservation is that it seems to be centered around providing shortcuts to frequently used functions. No problem with shortcuts, but I can't help wonder if whole phone experience is getting too complicated/cluttered if we now need another layer of shortcuts?

The 's' versions of an iPhone are always less hyped. It's because most people are locked into contracts for two years, so by default they have no interest in the 6s this year. The iPhone 6 is the biggest selling phone ever, so when the iPhone 7 drops next September you will have a few hundred million people all wanting something new to upgrade to.

iPhone 7 will be a redesign so this excites people & the media far more than the 's' models. Having said that, the 6s is one hell of an update and packs far more feature updates compared to previous 's' models.

I'm very excited to get the 6S Plus on the 25th. Can't wait to be able to multitask and use Safari without every app and webpage constantly refreshing. Hopefully the lag and stutter are things of the past as well.

Not to mention, the Apple versions are still more expensive. Many on this forum have just preordered a $1000 dollar *phone*.

Yeah it's crazy! Usually non Apple phones are either straight up cheaper, or have heavy promotions at release like Samsung/Best Buy, etc like to do. For me though the much higher resale value on the iPhones slightly makes up for it as I usually sell my old one after picking up the new one.

Yeah I agree about that. It's almost like there's too many ways to do one thing. Honestly I'd just end up taping the icon instead of force touching. I think it would be faster too lol

Remember the excitement? "New iPhone" OMG!!!
What has changed? Was it Steve? What's different?

I find it amusing to wait a year for a HUGE announcement - a slightly betterer camera - used to be
an official Apple line - more megapixels is not good, now it's good apparently and a faster processor
(does anyone care about the processor inside your phone?).

I don't know about you, but it all feels like an end of an era.

I disagree. Just look on twitter for when the preorder was. Fanatics like us exist, I dont think they exclusively post on here though.

Its a new apple iPhone, people are excited.

Apple is a different company than it was 10 or 20 years ago. Its the biggest company in the world, the first trillion dollar company. I lived in the days of the "think different" campaigns. Where the popular companies were MSFT and Dell. Everyone had Dell laptops.

to have a mac back then meant you were a hippie or counterculture.

Look at Apple in 2015. EVERYONE has a mac/iphone/ipod/ipad/applewatch.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that we knew every piece of the announcement weeks to months in advance. In unsure this has ever happened to this extent. The keynote for me was a waste of time (didn't actually watch most of it just read about it). Nothing was said that we didn't already "know" (quotes because nothing was confirmed until, well. apple confirmed it).

You must have short memory. It's been like this for the last several years.

To a small extent, I believe we are more informed and more discriminating consumers of Apple products.

Most of us have been doing this for a while, and even if we are solidly inside the Apple Ecosphere, we are realistic.

Witness the small number of us who bought into the Apple Watch.

Some things don't make sense.

I have an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, MacBook, and iMac. The iMac and MacBook are five years old, the Apple TV is a couple of years old. Only the iPad and iPhone are the latest models, and the Apple Watch didn't make sense to me.

Maybe in a small way Apple are victims of their own excellence, if people can hang onto electronic appliances for more than five years, which is more than long enough for their consumers to learn exactly what they really want and need in something new.

Overall agree. I am an early adopter to new product category's but I never upgrade just because. There must be a very solid reason. Btw - The watch is great

It was more fun in the think different days.

Its like everything else…….Trends, Products, clothing etc. At first its new and exciting then its around and accepted as the norm. People still care but the novelty is gone.
Perhaps the 7 with a bezeless screen or no home button will revive the excitement.

I'm coming from android and have never had an iphone so i'm pretty excited. My LG G3 is so laggy and unrepsonsive at times i will be glad to be rid of it.

Really? The reviews make it seem like a rocket

Yes it's a part of life at this point. "September's here, new iPhone time." Especially since people do care less about the s models. This never bothered me, I'm more excited now than I was for the 6 and so are others I know

Not a short memory. I realize we have had more leaks over the last few years. I follow the site pretty regularly. But it hasn't been to this point. They literally had nothing to say, except iohone financing, that we didn't already know.

I'm always interested in seeing the changes each year. I'm only really ever excited though when these "S" models come out because that is when I make my upgrades.

We are at the point where an iPhone is just an iPhone. You'll get some upgrade parts, but the device isn't "amazing" as it used to be. I'm still going to open app, do what I need to do, close the app. The same as it always was. There's no need to upgrade every year anymore.

I've discussed this with a lot of people in the past few years.

Is the iPhone hype dying? Maybe.

I still believe that Apple died with Steve (sorry). Ever since he passed away, the magic of Apple isn't the same for me anymore. Things were more creative/innovative with him. Now, that's not to say that every product sucks now because he's gone. I just feel that it isn't as innovative as it used to be. Then again, we're kind of at the point of "What else can one do?" Not just Apple, but anyone. We've done fingerprint sensors, heart rate monitors, updated cameras, edge displays, etc. Ideas are running low and until something awesome comes along, it'll be this way for a while.
