I love avocado but when was the last time you thought to yourself 'what I really need to use right now is an emoji of an avocado'? Who is dreaming this stuff up, hippy vegetarian programmers from San Francisco? Probably.

Why wouldn't you eat owl? Bet it's nice. I picture it being a bit like pigeon.

I don't see the point in food icons, but if somebody else does then that's good. I don't think those template pictures are very clear (especially the selfy one) but I'm sure proper implementations will be a lot better.
I dissaprove of that bacon icon though - American style fatty, crispy bacon? I hope we have the option of meaty British style bacon rashers!
There are already too many damn Emoji's to choose from. Are peoples vocabulary so poor they can't use words anymore?
Geralt of Rivia eats the wolf face emoji before making an oil out of the wolf liver emoji and the dog tallow emoji.
How about some Zap Comix emoji? Or one flipping the bird or one mooning the recipient? Those will get way more use than food emoji.
We're talking about Unicode 9 emojis, but Unicode 7 emojis haven't even been fully implemented in any OS yet.

Why not? They put up an article just to remind us that BlackBerry is a dead horse.
Guys, Unicode doesn't mandate how these characters should look like. That's the font designer's job. Unicode only specifies the code and its meaning. Designers are totally free to make better looking artwork.
