Way back when, written languages were mostly pictographic, it seems we're returning to that unfortunately. I personally never use emoji and anyone who does, I stop texting.
If these actually represented a proper pictographic language, I'd be on board. Teaching an entire generation to become fluent in ancient hieroglyphic scripts would be an incredible feat, and like translations of other holy books, would overturn culture when people are able to read the Egyptian Books of the Dead firsthand and see the backstory on where their modern religions actually come from.
But instead we have bacon.

Really sad to see civilization devolving back to the caveman's primitive pictograms. First history, now intelligent communication, is dying a slow death. Emoticons are useful to convey emotion but bacon, et al.?
Seriously! They have every major sport and even billiards, bowling and horse racing, but no hockey. Doesn't make sense!

My personal fave is the "Liar-face." I agree with others, though. We should have a "Face-palm." But I'd like to go a step further with that. I'd like to see a "Head, Meet Desk":

The worn and tired expression "game changer" only appears in the stratospheric world of Apple Hype. Beyond that, others who read it, roll their eyes and chuckle over the self important image displayed and coveted by Apples disciples.
Rumor here at UCLA is that in order to graduate with a masters degree ones thesis must be comprised of 100% emoji.
Whenever people send me emojis I'm never sure whether they actually mean whatever the emoji depicts or are just making fun at emojis. So I simply don't answer because I don't want to embarrass myself. Part of me hopes that this behavior somehow conditions them to never use them, like ever.
The point is, I really really hate emojis. I know I sound really stubborn and old fashioned, but I really think they just shouldn't exist.

What bugs me is, the originators of Emoji came up with like 900 faces, and none is a decent equivalent for :-/
