What's wrong with DC?

This, and so much more. So so so much more...

They are so inept, and beholden to their 'keepers', that they are tone deaf to how the 'Real World' works...

Both those baffoons should have retired ages ago. Especially Feinstein. The idiocy...

'Well, gosh, the world would be so much better without encryption.' to which I'd respond 'You first!'

Would it be misogynistic or antisemitic of me to observe that Dianne Feinstein looks like Emperor Palpatine in drag?

She reminds me of Dolores Umbridge.

No it's not. This is.

I think you mean ludicrous. :D
On topic. Ignorance and opportunism is a caustic mix. Ignorance of encryption, how it works, and it's importance. Opportunistic politicians during election season latching onto a hot button topic for exposure.

Politics at it's best is a ****show. Doesn't matter Rep or Dem, red and blue give the citizens a purple eye.

edit: Apple should repatriate some of that cash mountain and create a lobbying arm. That's the only thing that gets a response from congress. Not cynicism, just fact.

I am just replying because that was so funny...i wanted to see it again

Back to flip phones I guess..
I actually have a flip phone and I love it. I get a new one whenever I want for about $100. Best of all it's only $40 a month and I never have to worry about data overages and govt spying.

I have enough  devices to do all my computing without dealing with this - although I'm sure Feinstein and her cronies are set to hack absolutely everything. Makes me wonder which one of her donor/lobbyists is so eager to destroy what's left of our constitutional rights. Clearly, no one in congress is smart enough to think this stuff up on their own.

Excellent news. Sadly I think this first Bill won't pass as Obama is too concerned about his "legacy" but its coming. Its totally unacceptable for tech companies to be unable to unecrypt content. Make no mistake their stance is nit about privacy its about avoiding responcibility - if we can't see it we can't be responsible for moderating it

So no email, no bank account etc etc

We all lived without encryption before

Not sure if you are trolling or just don't understand how this works. Backdoor for government = backdoor for people much smarter than the retards in the government pushing this crap.

If this passes enjoy having your accounts and basically life stolen from you not by the government but by criminals.

Just so you know I could care less about the government spying on me I have nothing to hide but opening this door to everyone will be chaos so enjoy that.

It's a draft bill everyone. You can stop calling for revolution. Obviously the bill is poorly written and shouldn't be given consideration, but let's keep our sanity. After all, Apple is the one who argued these security issues should be handled in Congress.
The real problem is that this kind of bill was created at all. This is just the first step is what in bound to be some kind of horrible legislation that will subject millions of people to having their bank accounts hacked, their personal messages read and medical information being up for sale to hackers.

Frankenstein .. I mean Feinstein will surely come back with some other nearly as bad legislation that does the same thing - just worded so it SEEMS less like they just tore up the constitution.

Google if you're serious. It's funny if you think they actually care what you think though.

Elected officials usually pander to whoever is "loudest", in a numbers sense... they NEED votes to keep their jobs so if something they do proves unpopular- it behooves them to abandon it.

Digital banking would be impossible without cryptography. Our entire 21st century relies on crypto. There's no turning back. This bill is not going anywhere because it literally would destroy the entire global economy.

My Canadian employer has long refused to work with any company that keeps its servers in the USA. The original concern was due to the provisions of your Patriot Act that basically allowed the US Gov't to go quietly snooping in data originating from foreign countries. So my employer cancelled a number of long-standing contracts with American data storage companies and signed-on with international companies based in countries that could ensure better security. This decision kind of sucked for users because we had to abandon a couple of really good iOS apps that stored data in the states, but in the scope of "the big picture" it's the right thing to do.

Patriot Act liability has become a standard question when international companies are shopping for data storage options. Now it appears the Feds are going after home-grown data in the same way. I'd encourage American companies (including Apple) to consider relocating their servers to countries that still respect freedom and personal privacy. Like Canada.

Good business opportunities for companies outside the US to give consumers what they want if US companies have to be shackled by this garbage.

For those of you living in the US you can either:

1. Like it and lump it
2. Resist/protest/fight
3. Switch to open source alternatives

One look, one reminder... of the dreadful Dianne Feinstein brings to mind the decades of nefarious deeds she's orchestrated. Often serving as a mentor and role model for Hillary, what these two have destroyed in secret, behind closed doors alone, would make many men tremble in fear.

***** Power at its worst.

Add age limits too please. After 80 your time is well past over.
I think there is some kind of bell curve at play here, since commons sense does not seem to development until about 40 or 45 and then goes away completely somewhere around 80.

Not really, because they can count on the votes they buy through social programs, which often allows them to ignore the majority.

The Americans are completely losing their minds. I can just image the cost to jobs, real jobs, this nonsense would cause should it ever see the light of day. Someone should take them all and knock their heads together. Dummies. Wake up!

Every time I read another story about Feinstein, I wonder how come she is not in an old age home. Every time she speaks, or convenes a meeting, I think to myself,"don't worry the men in the white coats will be there to take her away very soon."
Where the hell are the men in the white coats? Can't they see she has been in the throws of dementia for at least the last decade? The woman is 82, and has not made one vote that her constituency has agreed with since the 90's. It is time for this blue hair to be forcibly retired.

The most embarrassing thing about Feinstein is that the voters keep electing her... Every time she speaks she demonstrates ignorance or just plain lunacy - yet she keeps getting reelected.
