Is this date for def?!?

I'm still set on the 680m that a member here promised would be in the new iMac! :D

I dont think its nly going to be a spec bump. It expect a redesign. If not a redesing, atleast a more slim chassis because of the new screen technology. Even if its only the screen quality that is new, I call that a new design, which is more favorable than new visual look for the machine :) ...anyway, september rumors are taking of and I´m really happy it has finally started. The july and august trial news and different iphone 5 pieces has nearly made me mad from boredom.

I say it'll be a spec bump now, redesign next year to coincide with plans about a Mac Pro redesign. I'd be shocked if we didn't see a "unibody"-style Mac Pro chassis, much smaller, maybe with less or no PCI-E slots. I'd also be shocked if there wasn't an entry-level "Air" version of the iMac that got rid of the 3.5" HDD and optical drive in favor of maybe 2x 2.5" drive slots and a much thinner form factor. Bring the iMac's entry-level price to $999. Retina-fied iMac displays and ACD/TBD/whatever you want to call the 27" thing. Maybe the 27" iMac keeps the optical drive, maybe not.

But for now, a spec bump. Yeah, I know it's been 5 years since we've had a total iMac redesign, and 3 years since a redesign of any kind (Thunderbolt inclusion simply does not count), but I just don't see Apple having a big update ready quite yet.

----------

I think most would :D

If Apple's USB SuperDrive did Blu-ray and worked with all Macs, I'd trade the internal ODD for a pack of gum. This thing's just a waste of a SATA slot.

Agree! There are many (such as myself) who couldn't wait and either purchased a MBA or rMBP, and this definitely helped Apple drive laptop sales. Funny thing is that those who purchased a laptop already, will still probably pick up an iMac anyway (including myself). God damn Apple making me spend my money!

Yep brought a MacBook Air 13 last week and love it! and yeah still gonna buy an iMac:D

Did you go for the base 13" Air or did you customize it? I kinda regret spec bumping the Air because it was to simply serve as a get-by machine until the new iMac release. I think it's a little too powerful for a get-by machine. Maybe I'll have a easier time selling it and hopefully can get a better value because of its specs ;) How much do you guys think I should sell my Air for? Paid around $1900 for it. I really didn't think the iMacs were going to be released and that's why I went all out on the Air. I must admit though, it did help with Diablo 3 performance. And to think I almost went all out on building a high-end rMBP had these new rumors of an imminent iMac release not surfaced

It's only 3 years since it had a redesign actually. I have the early 2009 iMac, it looks quite unsexy compared to the current design. 24", thicker bezel and more chin. Ok it's the same style but it's still different. If apple isn't able to completely remove the chin I doubt it will become much different. Apple likes aluminum and customers like it too. So as long as there's a chin there will be a similar design I think.
But rumor sites have heard from "reliable" sources that the new iMac looks more like today's tv designs. And because of the new screen tech they got going I'm suspecting no chin and screen going nearly all the way out to the edge. Apple always tries to remove as much unnecessary features as possible. There's also rumors of a new keyboard. I'm very curious, as I allready think the current keyboard has great design and is comfortable to use.

Went for the base model to keep the price down since I still intend to by an iMac and even upgrading the SSD to 250GB from 120GB was an extra £250.
Basically I needed something now as been waiting since January with only iToys and a clapped out Sony Vaio with Vista:(
This seemed to be the best all round solution, of course if the new iMac is released next week it will be a bit of a waste of money but i'm finding the Air is a totally different beast to the iPad and i'm using it way more than I thought I would. Of course this could be attributed to the fact that I am used to my laptop taking about 10 mins to start up and not even being able to boot without being plugged in..:D

I hope the keyboard is backlit like the Air, its uber cool at night and actually very practical.

Buy external drive it's like 10 bucks on eBay problem solve. Don't like that? Buy the current design. People need to stop crying over the odd I'd much rather have something more useful instead. If you don't start moving on from disk well youre gonna be left out because everything is going digital

But if they left the ODD in the non-retina MBP(which is portable and Apple likes slim portables) then why take it out of the iMac(which is not portable).

Wrong. I can stream movies on my PC with an ODD, what a shock  !!!

It's called a Mac mini.

the same process they do with the new rMBP, reduce glare but keep the positives of a glossy screen

If it's the same process, then why the problem is only with iMac but not rMBP?

I would happily trade the ODD for a desktop grade GPU any day.

Sure sure... except that Apple will only trade them with thinner profile - which benefits no one except those who have shallow views on good looks.

I'm down for a new iMac and keyboard. I think the Keyboard makes sense since they launched it when the alum iMacs came out (iIRC). Would love to see a revised trackpad.

once you've minimized a design to essentially a sleek monolith.....its pretty hard to go anywhere from there,

so why redesign?

best,
SvK

New keyboard? :)

I would like a one-piece bluetooth wireless keyboard with attached magic trackpad and inductive (wireless) battery charging from proximity with the bottom of the iMac. (Yes, I know about (and have) the gadgets that connect and hold the existing keyboard and trackpad together)

you might want to call MacGuyver on that one...

Actually, I think there was a Apple patent discussed here awhile back about the wireless charging of a keyboard and mouse from the bottom of the iMac. Couple that with a simple integrated keyboard/trackpad design and I would be happy. :) :) :)

I already have a wireless Magic Mouse charging plate from Mobee which works pretty well.

I just checked stock at my local store and the high-end 27" will be available for instore pickup on Sept 10, while the low end 27" will be available for pickup Sept 4.

Meanwhile, all the other stores in the area had full stock.

I don't think there will be a release tomorrow, guys.

Availability means nothing. The MacBook Pros weren't running out of stock before WWDC.

Well, I wish you luck... But I've been playing this game since March and I know how its going to end for you (with tears).

I suspect because they weren't ready to launch the 13" rMBP. When they launch that, I think they'll phase out the non-retina MBP with the ODD.

•HDMI
•USB3
•All upgraded to i7
•More SSD options, maybe even default for some models
•1TB default for HDD
•Better graphics, maybe 1GB AMD graphics (I prefer AMD to NVIDIA and Apple seems to use AMD for most of their Desktops).
•Possibly 2 processor options for high end?

  • HDMI: Yes, at least I hope.
  • USB 3: Yes
  • All i7's: Probably not, but wishful thinking
  • Default SSD's: Hopefully
  • 1TB HDD's: Probably
  • I'd rather have Nvidia since it plays nicer with CS apps. P.S. there's already a 1GB, even 2GB option, but it seems like you might be talking about the lower end.
  • 2 processors. I don't think that it's possible with the Intel i series, so they would have to go with Xeons. I don't see this happening anytime soon, so the best that we could hope for is i7 Extreme 6 cores.

Good list though. I would be happy to see all of these options in a perfect Universe.
