Actually, I think they're trying to resurrect the ghost of Steve Jobs to get this company back on track.

I'm a bit scared to get the first iPhone 8 batch honestly. Do Apple make adjustment on slight things after a product is launched?
In an odd way, I was the beneficiary of a manufacturing defect of an early iPhone 5. This one had the battery issue, so after two years' battery use, I got a new one, essentially extending the lifetime of it by another 2 years.

There are silver linings to each cloud...

You've got to laugh at this forum. Removing the home button, and by extension replacing Touch ID with advanced (read: it works) facial recognition is one of the biggest changes Apple could possibly make.

Funnier still, is that until Touch ID was being replaced, the forum was waxing lyrical about a brilliant beneath screen Touch ID, a first by Apple, until someone else already released a phone with it, then it was the first on a mass produced scale, now it seems there won't be one at all!

I'm still hoping that the final product will look better than these latest renders. I don't mind the vertical alignment, but there's just something about that camera group that just looks... off.

There was an early render that just took the iPhone 7 Plus' camera group and made it vertical, and that looked great.

ppfff.....And a few weeks from now, people start Flight tracking their new iPhone 8

"Where is your shipment right now?" Is it flightnr XXX or flight XXY?"
"ow! wow! mine just arrived in Kentucky!"

#hyperdehyper ;)

never underestimate the obsession of the internet.

(I'm ashamedly part of this crowd)

Timmy: And one more thing ... the new iPhone preorders STARTS NOW. Muahahahaha.

oh my god, the joy I got from imagining the immediate pandemonium that would follow of everyone scrambling to grab their credit cards and get to Apple's site... lmao

I don't know, I heard they were still trying to figure out how people were going to unlock their new phones ;). They got a few more days...

Nothing wrong with my 6s...headphone jack is a plus...no adapter needed.

The 6s was the last phone with carrier subsidies, and a lot of those people were on a 2-year upgrade cycle, it will be interesting to see how that plays out with regards to iPhone 8 sales. I think there's potential for a substantial consumer pricing problem this time. Apple really needs to have something very novel, or if only an incremental refresh, some attractive pricing to justify the cost. The idea of a premium model seems like a fail, if after two 'tread water' upgrades Apple couldn't find a way to distill the costs of most innovation across the line. We'll just have to see.

They do have time, they can wait 6h before the event to send invites...every journalist would instantly drop what they're doing and just run over there.

Right. The only way I'd even think of upgrading to the 8 is if they made a 5 or 5.5" screen with the form factor of the 6s. I'm not interested in holding or carrying around the size of Apples current plus model.

Just keep in mind progress is not a given. Just take a look at the new MBPs (I own 2 BTW).

The touch bar is basically useless and it's inclusion tacks on a least $100US. Something like the touch bar is exactly the type of thing I was worried about with the transitions.

Brace yourselves.

Touch ID was/is such a great feature, if they omit it...Then again, I don't know how the face lock is going to play out. Who knows. Should be real fun though. :D

Absolutely if the front is black.

White front bezels are ugly and that's why I've always purchased the black iPhone.

If it comes with the black front, I'm down with any color (probably will go with the blush gold or silver). I don't care too much about the back color.

My only fear is that the copper frame will show/peek out when viewed from the front, the mockups seem to look like this. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

For once I wish the leaks would turn out to all be wrong (ie: Apple intentionally leaked false info to trick us all and surprise us) and for all of us to be in total shock as they unveil something 100x more impressive and scare the pants off of their competitors.

Oh well

Was hoping for it to be literally bezel free, true wireless charging (feet away from charger), speaker and camera invisibly embedded behind screen, etc etc. Reaching for the sky I guess!

Apple is aiming to hold its annual iPhone event on Tuesday, September 12, TechCrunch reported today, confirming information shared yesterday by The Wall Street Journal.

According to TechCrunch, the September 12 date is "nearly locked in," but may hinge on whether Apple is able to complete work on the Steve Jobs Theater at its new Apple Park campus in time. Construction on the theater is still underway, but Apple is said to want to inaugurate the theater with the launch of the iPhone 8, its most radically redesigned iPhone in years.

Because media invites often go out 7 to 10 days before a major event is held, Apple has very little time to make a decision on where the event will be hosted, if a decision has not been made already. With Labor Day coming up next Monday, Apple will need to send out invites by the end of this week or on Tuesday, September 5 at the latest if the event is to be held on September 12.

Should the 1,000 seat Steve Jobs Theater not be completed in time, Apple could elect to use the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, where several past iPhone events have been held. There's nothing on the auditorium's schedule for the week of the 12th, so it remains a possibility.

With September approaching, it won't be long before Apple's plans are confirmed. If Apple does hold an event on September 12 -- and it's unlikely the event would be pushed beyond that date -- the new iPhones could see an official launch on Friday, September 22. If Apple accepts pre-orders, sales could start a week ahead of launch on Friday, September 15.

Apple's 2017 iPhone event will be its biggest in years thanks to the launch of a redesigned OLED 5.8-inch iPhone with an edge-to-edge display, inductive charging, facial recognition, and dozens of other new features. The new high-end device will launch alongside two standard but also redesigned devices in typical 4.7 and 5.5-inch sizes.

Apple is also expected to unveil a new 4K Apple TV and a third-generation Apple Watch with LTE at the event.

Revolutionary 3D sensing facial recognition doesn't excite you? Why would you stay with LCD, huge bezels, and now the same shape of phone for 4 YEARS... simply to have Touch ID. That makes zero sense to me

I don't trust the security of facial recognition compared to finger print. I'm sure many people will be very happy with a facial recognition only solution, I'm not. I'd like both with the ability to require both or disable either.

Please stop calling it iPhone 8. Apple is not going to release a 7s, 7s+ and 8 during the year. What's next year? 8, 8+ and 9?!? Come on.

Maybe 9 and 9+ (almost identical to the "iPhone 8") with no more 's' models. In other words, this year may be a "transition" year in some way, possibly by necessity???

Can't believe we getting that ugly ass back glass just for a stupid wireless charging I will never use

7000 vs 1000 attendees doesn't really make any meaningful difference. It will only make the event feel even more exclusive and the 6000 that wont make the cut will watch a live-stream, write or read a live-blog regardless.

Apple didn't create the Steve Jobs Theatre to not use it. It will most likely house every Apple Keynote in the foreseeable future. The only event that will not be at the Steve Jobs Theatre is WWDC as that event actually benefits from having additional space in order to house various developer sessions and to give access to as many students and developers are possible. For product announcements you don't need to house more than 1000 people. If Apple felt differently they would have made it larger to begin with.

The only question is, will the Theatre be ready for the next keynote or will they be forced to do it somewhere else for a last time?

"launch of the iPhone 8, its most radically redesigned iPhone in years."

lol hmm yeah that's a pretty sad statement if we are considering a bezel-less screen and removal of their ICONIC home button as "radically redesigned". The standards these days for products have clearly gone downhill. Not that many end users care.. they'll just keep tossing cash at whatever has a company logo on it.

you don't think removing an 'ICONIC' home button is radically redesigning? By your own definition that would be a huge change. Radical doesn't make any judgements whether it is good or bad, just significant.

Apple might as well not bring out wireless charging then if you aren't going to use it.

There is better grip on the glass back phones than what we have now. Can't really use the phone without a case. Far too slippy.

Although i like the rumors of the iPhone 8, I can't find a reason for its steep price hike. Technology is getting cheaper by the day and Amoled has been used for years now. Even midrange Android phones use Amoled. I also haven't seen one future that hasn't been brought to the market by competitors yet. If the iPhone 7s and 7s plus still have the big bezels and priced the same it would feel like greediness plus from Apple. I don't see compelling reasons for Chinese or European customers to go for iPhone (since the Chinese vendors are growing rapidly in Europe with good built quality phones, thin bezels, Amoled, cameras and a fraction of the price compared to iPhones). I hope the price hike will be justified and looking forward to September 12th.
