Updates and back to school

What if I purchase online a new macbook and touch on September 14, or whenever the last day of the back to school promo ends? Isn't there a 2 week return policy? I figure I can wait the 2 weeks to see if the new line is for sale yet and then return/exchange. The promo says all new Mac computers are eligible. It does list specific ipods so I probably couldn't exchange for the newer ipod. My son would much prefer a silver laptop over a white one...Luckily, we have plenty of PC's, so he can wait for his notebook.

Alternatively, if both the macbook and the touch had a price reduction, and were updated, that might be a wise choice to. That is, to wait and buy after the promo, but at lower prices.......

Advice?

yeah. but do NOT open the box and I wouldn't do the rebate form right away.

opening the box even if you don't turn on the computer makes it 'used' and they will charge you a restocking fee. I remember them warning me about that when I bought my last ipod (and they said it was on all ipods and computers)

and I'll bet that if you return something with the student discount they will have a way to check if you sent in the rebate and if you did who knows what kind of a mess that will be (cause they don't want to give you credit for something you already got credit for).

as for a lower price. who knows. if it does happen within the 2 weeks and you go in and ask, they might return the computer and resell it to you at that price even with the discount.

As I was sitting here at my summer internship pondering how boring my life is sitting behind this desk making more than twice the money of all my friends doing nothing, it hit me... Apple in cleaning out its inventory of touches and nanos through the back to school promotion. This means a definite revision for both products. If they were going to revise the classic wouldn't that too be included in the promotion?

Nothing is definite with Apple until it is done. We'll see what happens in the next month or so. But it is possible that they aren't cleaning out anything, rather using the ipods to get all those college kids to want a Mac and not a PC

Have you seen the Buyer's Guide for the nano?

9/2007
9/2006
2/2006 bump to 1GB
9/2005.

They're doing both. Heck, aren't they showing up as discontinued in stores as per page 1/2..

this is for september, hints on new macbooks

dang, I wanna see where that came from.

looks fake/adverage joe created it. If it was infact apple it would be more glosser more drop shadows and there would be a glow behind the apple logo like the January 2007 teaser.

New Mac Books in September will help the profits for the quarter. Hopefully that will bump the stock up.

Okay, so here's my experience with the Back to School Promotion and the release of a new version shortly thereafter.

I bought a Macbook under the Back to School promotion in March this year (keeping in mind i'm in New Zealand) from the online Apple Store, and I also picked up the new 32Gb iPod Touch as well under the promotion (which wasn't around when the offer began, but was still eligible under the scheme). Literally a week after recieving it, with only a hint in rumor posts the day before, Apple release a new updated version of the Macbook with some pretty nice upgrades at a cheaper price point. Needless to say I was less than happy, so I rang up apple and told them so - I had literally just mentioned "I recieved a new Macbook a week ago and I see you're released an update - I'm not happy about that" before the guy buts in and says they can give me money to make the Macbook I have "price comparable", or they can exchange it for a new one. Needless to say, given some of the new upgrades were things I was planning to do to the Macbook I had anyway, I chose to get the new one.

I'd already opened it and been using it, but that wasn't an issue - they said I just had to put everything back in the box, tape it up and await for the courier they were organising to pick it up. No re-stocking fees, no nothing - I hadn't sent in the Back to School promotion rebate yet, but if I had've it didn't sound like that would have been a problem. So I ended up with a newer model Macbook, still eligible for the Back to School promo and Apple also refunded me the $100 difference between the two Macbooks. Needless to say, I came away very pleased and happy with Apple.

I am beginning to have doubts that Apple will refresh the notebooks at the iPod event because we haven't heard any rumors of them with the iPod rumors.

It would be nice if they did, but the folks who have posted the last few years of September events have confirmed that it's always just iTunes and iPods. So it is likely this one will be iTunes 8, the iPod Touch with GPS and the new iPod Nano form factor.

New MacBooks and MacBook Pros might need to wait until at least October.
