Serial leaker Jon Prosser has moved to quash sketchy rumors that Apple could release a new iMac as soon as this week.

Rumors about the imminent launch of an Intel-based iMac with an unchanged design appeared over the weekend, but originated from Twitter accounts with no track record for accurate leaks.

In a tweet responding to a news report on the rumors, Prosser said simply, "Nope," and then followed up with:
If you want the new iMac, keep an eye out for August.

No redesign.
Shipping times for current iMac models have been delayed for weeks, which has led many observers to believe an iMac refresh may be on the horizon.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said Apple plans to refresh its existing Intel-based iMac in the third quarter of 2020 prior to launching an iMac with Apple Silicon later this year.

Kuo's report didn't specify if the Intel-based iMac refresh would include a redesign or if it would be saved for the Apple Silicon model.

Reliable leaker CoinX claimed in March that an ‌iMac‌ update was coming "soon," but no further information has been shared since then.

Apple's iMac redesign is rumored to feature "iPad Pro design language" and thinner bezels, similar to those seen on Apple's Pro Display XDR that accompanied the new Mac Pro last year.

Prosser on Sunday also responded to a question on Twitter about whether the new iMac would be powered by Apple Silicon or be Intel-based, saying, "The first ARM Mac will likely be a 13.3" MacBook Pro."

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the first Mac to be updated with an Apple Silicon chip will be the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, which should see a refresh with the Apple chip before the end of 2020. DigiTimes has also said that Apple Silicon chips will be coming to the 13-inch MacBook Pro before the end of the year.

In Europe all the store availability dates for iMac moved from "not available for PickUp" to "Available for Pickup 18th of August" for ALL models except the highest Tier 27 Inch model wich moved from "not available for PickUp" to "Available for Pickup September 30th". - This happened yesterday.

I checked this in Germany, UK and Italy. Works out for all of them. It's a straight to the day Date for every store in several countries. Go do it yourself, all you need to look up is a postal code for the country so you can check on Apple Store availability instead of just the online store delivery timeframe.

I also checked the USA and Australia. Both still say "not available for PickUp".

Feels like something is happening Tuesday August 18th (possibly Monday 17th since the time new products get announced usually is late in the day for Europe). Highest Tier 27 inch might be late to the party for whatever reason you want to come up with.

It would be strange and unusual for Apple to launch a new iMac in the middle of their Back to School program. No doubt many customers will opt to return their previous-gen iMacs for the new one within their return window before the program ends, creating a bit of a headache for Apple with tons of old open-box iMacs.

I think back to school promo folks buy laptops? I am sure Apple have figures to help them gauge when to release a product with the minimal impact to other lines.

I think this iMac has been delayed X times because of Covid, BlackLifesMatter Protests, the ARM Announcement and now possibly this week due to Tim Cooks congress interview being rescheduled... they will be pretty happy to get it out of the door and first and foremost have online and physical stores restocked again after what now is more or less two month of nothing on the 27 inch front.
Besides that i am fairly certain i bought a new MacBook once during Back2School Promotion. Got one of the smaller iPods and gladly sold that for a 100€ bringing my MacBook down to something silly like 900€ (must have been late 2008, the one and only non Pro Aluminum MacBook of that era)

Who would still want a intel iMac?

Me. Why? Because I want only one computer, like the iMac's design and its great display and use both Windows (for gaming) and macOS (for everything else). I won't be able to run Windows properly on an ARM iMac, that's why I will spend a large amount on the last and most powerful Intel iMac and use it for many years.

The masses are not interested in jumping on ARM as soon as it is released but many will want a new iMac so an update will still appeal to lots of people. ARM is coming, no doubt, but the excitement about it is from the few, everyone else just wants a device to allow them to do whatever it is they do, intel or ARM.
