Did the track by reference trick on UPS, and now seeing movement...My order status on Apple still says "Preparing to Ship"...

It’ll stay that way for a while. Apple only updates it to “Shipped” status two or three days before the delivery date. I’ve had that happen with all my previous launch day deliveries.

Since I have a multiple orders, one of which is just a phone case and two lightning-to-stereo dongles, I'm going to run a little experiment with UPS. That order shipped Friday from Ontario, CA and was originally scheduled to be delivered today. I requested that it be delivered to my nearest UPS store instead. When I initially did this the website popped up a dialog saying it would be delayed to tomorrow. But what do you know, it's now out for delivery and should be delivered to the store today.
Not sure if I'll have the guts to do this for my phone and watch orders, but this is encouraging. Like I said before, FedEx can handle this stuff without issue, so it really surprises me that UPS makes such a big deal out of it.

Hey, could be worse.... 2 hours after the order availability time gets you 12-19... even now I could order and get 15-22... Just sucks... but I'm happy for the folks getting their watch on Friday.

Pending charge is a good sign. I ordered a SS 44 milanese loop in same order as an iPhone XS Max. My CC had a pending charge early Friday (that eventually dropped off) for just the phone but cleared this morning. Says preparing to ship since Saturday in my order history but I can find the tracking on UPS with order number.
Watch though is still in processing status. Never a pending charge yet for it, no movement at all. 🙁 Still says delivers 9/21 so keeping my fingers crossed.

Depends. In Calgary whenever I've called UPS they've always insisted that they need to do 1-delivery attempt before holding it at the distribution centre. Your region/area may have different rules. I usually call as soon as I get a tracking # to see what I can do.

Over the course of the last 36 hours I got all my UPS tracking numbers.
Everything for a delivery on the 21st and in time.
Now I just that UPS changed that for the 2 Watches:
I don’t like the exception triangles and the tentative.
The phones on the other hand still say a firm 21st and on time.

Ditto here from GTA in Ontario. Trying to remember other times I’ve ordered for del’y on launch date. Pretty sure status went to PFS sometime on the Monday afternoon.
Monday night China to Anchorage.
Tuesday Anchorage to Louisville.
Wed night/Thurs AM Louisville to Hamilton, then by road to their Vaughn DC
Friday on a truck to me (I hope - if not I’ll survive until Monday)

Well my experiment worked. Initially UPS said it would be delayed until tomorrow, but my package was delivered about an hour ago to the store. Again, not sure that I'll be bold enough to try this with my phones, but it is encouraging.
Here in Italy the ups “trick” didn’t work. No tracking information available. Maybe the us watches are shipped earlier.
