8 Plus 64GB Gold VZW, no issues.

Hoping the X treats me the same.

Why are you getting 8 Plus and X at same time? Seems huge waste of money, unless you have unlimited money to blow out. While there are still people suffering from hunger. Should donate the money for these people.

Don't take offense, I just don't understand why would people buy 8 and X at same time.

I’ve had the static issue on my7 plus since I bought it (you sound muffled to other people). Apple blamed my carrier, t mobile. I just bought an SE because I was sick of the muffled sound where I would have to repeat myself 7 times to be heard. Everyone says I sound crystal clear. I bought the SE because I no longer want to spend $1000 on a new phone that hasn’t been tested for basic functionality.

It’s been questionable for some time as of late...
If you’ve only just started you haven’t been paying attention. Under Tim Cook there’s a definite policy to ship questionable quality.
Apple's had major QC incidents easily going back to the early 2000s. When's the last time you read a major review that said something like this:

We can't check the vital signs of every computer Apple ships. We can, however, report on the quality of the PowerBooks we've received, and that report is not encouraging. Of six 15-inch PowerBooks Macworld ordered from a non-Apple retailer, three had to be returned.
https://www.macworld.com/article/1027456/15inchpowerbookg4s.html

That's MacWorld, from back in 2003. There's 10+ other major QC incidents I can think of since then, most on STEVE JOB's watch.

Wow, hopefully its just a software fix. Given the high price of these products, there's absolutely no way a consumer should accept issues such as these. If apple wants to charge a premium price they damn well better make sure the phone is perfect.

If Apple doesn't assist them, sure. But you know they will. That's really where the difference comes in between a good product and a bad one, the company's willingness to stand by it and assist you.

He could be upgrading two phones, such as having a spouse with a 7 who will wait until November to swap out his 8. He could have one for work and one for personal. He could be selling the 8 for the X, or taking it back within the 30 day window.

Personally, if I'm unable to make a decent call, its not something I'm willing to wait and see what apple does, that's just me though

Cue the apologists with "This happens to every new phone, every year!", "This has just been released don't expect it to be perfect!", "[Even though you bought the product for what it is NOW] Wait for them to fix it!".

Yeah, but it kind of does. Was the case for my 4s, 5s and 6+. So far my 7 has been perfect, though. It’s something that’ll be ironed out.

Not sure why everyone gets giddy about some temporary technical issues. It’s frustrating, but it’ll pass.

Well as mystifying as this all is, it's been going on with my Samsung S8+ since I got it, too. Just the S8+ has constant crackle going on, not my S7, S7 Edge-- those have occasional static, as does my iPhone 7 Plus. The only perfectly clear phone I own is the HTC 10, which makes everyone sound like we are all standing in the same room, always. So I'm guessing it's not the carriers.

Could it have anything at all to do with the plastic gasket type of thing that now connects between the glass and the aluminum frame?

The reason I wonder is that my. HTC 10 has all aluminum body like an IPhone 7 but has no water resistance whatsoever. No gasket. Nothing like that at all. All the other phones in question have some sort of sealing.

That's been my experience, too, with the muffled sound. My HTC 10 and my iPhone SE do not have any kind of waterproofing and are both clear and static free. All of my phones with IP67-68 water resistance have some static. My Samsung S8+ crackles the worst. It's like talking over a bowl of Rice Krispies.

If it had anything to do with the waterproofing then this issue should happen even when playing music, etc, but it doesnt.

Ding ding ding! Thank you Icon. One of the scenarios you listed is exactly what I’m doing. Thus, only spending money on ONE phone.

I’m having the same issue too on my 8plus 256GB. No issue when I’m speaker phone, only while using the actual earpeace.

I was wondering if it interfered with the signal somehow. Weird how I didn't have it with the non waterproofed phones but I could see how that's not related. Just grasping at straws here. I'd love for it to be solved on my S8+.

I noticed that my 8+ does this.
Will give it a few weeks and see what’s happens.
TBH it’s not that bad and will wait and see what happens. I’m sure we had this a few years ago.

iPhone 6s user here.

On some FaceTime calls, I now have >50% of convo w mom (on iPhone 6) dropping. (Both on iOS 11. Prob wasn’t there in public beta.)

Calls from my iPad Air2 aren’t affected.
FaceTime calls to/from iPhone 6s to other parties not affected either.

Cook is just Quantity over Quality , with the user taking a hit with ever rising AppleCare/support costs. Greed greed

I have been having the same issues with my iPhone 6s since I installed iOS 11. Had a chat with AppleCare and they were quick to blame my service provider. But it happens over FaceTime and FaceTime Audio as well. But hey we can all speak as poop now on the new iPhone X, so we can bear this.
