Its been sub par for a while. Definitely a case of quantity > quality these days.

I have this issue. 8 256GB ATT. Thought it was a dirty speaker but it’s intermittent. Seems to be on LTE and Wifi calls especially.
[doublepost=1506382124][/doublepost]Wait, there actually are several iPhone 8 users?
Several MacRumors readers who purchased Apple's new iPhone 8 Plus have reported hearing intermittent crackling noises while taking calls on the device. MacRumors forum member vask first posted about the issue on Friday and a number of iPhone 8 Plus owners from Australia, the U.S., and across Europe have since contributed to the thread describing similar experiences.
According to iPhone 8 Plus owners, "very annoying" static sounds can sometimes be heard from the handset's earpiece during regular cellular calls, but the issue doesn't occur when using headphones or if speaker phone is enabled, which could indicate a software issue rather than a speaker defect. The audible crackling has also been reported when using FaceTime, increasing suspicions that the problem doesn't lie with network carriers. Forum member Jgpsolo describes the issue like so:
The problem occurs "with or without WiFi calling, with 4G voice (VoLTE) on or off, with phone noise cancelling enabled or disabled under accessibility, and even with third party VoIP apps (like Acrobits Groundwire), with several different carriers," according to forum member ManuCH in Switzerland.![]()
Some users have tried performing a hard reset on their iPhone 8 Plus, with mixed results. Apple's support team has advised some owners to restore their phone to factory settings and set up again via iCloud backup, again with variable results. Other users have even reported the same problem on like-for-like replacement devices after exchanging what they thought were faulty handsets.
Apple is apparently aware of the issue and is currently looking into it. We'll update this article as soon as we know more.

Wait until the x. A little crackling probably seems like nothing compared to the problems I bet it will have.[doublepost=1506382124][/doublepost]Wait, there actually are several iPhone 8 users?
I think it does happen during volte.I can confirm several parts of this:
- It definitely happens with regular cellular calls (e.g. calls from cell to landline), but using headphones solves it
- It does not happen with VoLTE calls

OMG. If I would have Eddy's perpetual resonance in between the back and front glass...Clearly Eddie Cue’s fault.
No issues yet with my 8.
I can confirm it happens on VoLTE calls for me here in Australia on an iPhone 8 Plus 256GB on the Telstra network.
[doublepost=1506432030][/doublepost]Experiment time!
Can everyone with this issue please do the following -
Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data Options > Enable 4G then select Data Only..
Then try making test calls.
I just did this on my 8 Plus and so far I have not had the static / clicking noise at all.
Will be interested to hear other's experiences.
Okay thanks! Well at least we can rule that out now!Phone setup as new phone, no restore or using the new quick setup method.
So, problem is definitely not isolated to phones that has been restored.
My 8+ was doing it too. Also discovered a speck of dust under the rear camera lens. Have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow, so hopefully they can replace my phone just for the dust under the camera lens issue.
I need to mention this crackling noise from the ear piece while I'm there.
[doublepost=1506448602][/doublepost]Also, iOS 11.0.1 was just released. Can anyone confirm if that update helped or not? I switched back to my 6s+ for now until I get my 8+ replaced hopefully..
I have the issue on an 8 64GB model on AT&T during WIFI calls and LTE calls. Restored from an itunes backupJust out of curiosity.... if we are thinking it’s a software issue, could it be those of us that restored from an iCloud backup that have the problem?
How many of you have restored from a backup and have the issue? Is anyone experiencing it that set up the phone without restoring from a backup?
