any company staying with mcx who are NOW TESTING...with limited runs/or not ready for launch IS OFFICIALLY IDIOTS...
Why would companies from ohio or anywhere else sheeping their contract away with mcx...

Last statistic I could find (2013) is that 26% of all money transacted through credit cards was on Amex. Here, Amex is accepted by every decent-sized retailer.
If you mention Amex here in the UK, all you hear for the next few moments are crickets.

I would prefer just getting some Chip and PIN readers/cards here in the US.

Been using them for years and years in that little backwater country known as New Zealand.

Was shock about how backwards the USA was when we were there last (18 months ago)

I'm in the US, and I've yet to come across a chip reader, in any store that has one, that actually works.

This is exactly why Apple Pay is slow to catch on...retailers are completely dragging their asses.

Strange I use it all the time and it works perfect.

I can't wait to see my parents' faces when this app asks for their banking routing and checking number, social security (for full benefits), and request to follow their location... all before using the app. This. Won't. Work.

This is exactly why it won't work.

At least with Apple Pay, assuming the banks are on the ball about verification, there is no ability for someone who steals the phone to use it.

I'm in the U.S. I have a chip credit card that I have used at Target. No pin required yet. Just place the card, chip side first, in the card reader and wait for it to processes.

Target and Bestbuy (in Canada) use the same hardware that their US stores use. In Canada, the touch-screen PoS where you insert the card will come up with a PIN entry screen. If you're not getting this, it's because they are operating it in "swipe" mode. So inserting the card is the same as swiping the card.

I can't even believe they're seriously still backing this. It's been 3 years and they STILL don't have a service anywhere near finished.

I'M OUT.

My thoughts exactly.
How on earth do they think that CurrentC is going to fare in the rest of the world?
NFC (and Chip and Pin) have been used in many parts of the years for years and years.
ApplePay builds on that existing network.
CurrentC? Yeah right.
Or is CurrentC going to be another of those US Only (ha-ha) solutions.
There is a world out there with bigger markets than the USA. Why aren't they going after them then?

It's US only, I believe. There's a UK equivalent called Zapp, also Tescos are doing something similar, called PayQwik (Which is why they haven't rolled out contactless to their stores outside of the London area - Bunch of Idiots!).

All these things are coming over 5 years too late, if you ask me!

This standard is just plain stupid, just as some European countries have conceived a standard where you use a code first as a token ID and then a PIN in the app on your phone online.

I hate it when people choose to authorise with a PIN instead of just using NFC, it's just a few seconds but it's a big thing when there is a 1/4 mile line to the counters.

Now this guy, who chooses to use his QR thingy to pay for his Twinkie will definitely be everyone's favourite person.
Unless he keeps the app open for an inordinate amount of time, during which the QR coupon will expire, and he'll have to refresh.

Bring it on. Competition is a good thing.

Still waiting for my bank to support apple pay :(

This pushed me to open a checking account at another bank. Put part of my paycheck in there every 2 weeks and get free banking. Got a credit card too that has cash-back rewards. I've been missing out on that perk for a while.

I'll keep my old bank on (credit union) for now until I can disentangle all my direct debits and bill payments.

Problem with my bank, after all these years of disappointment, its Stockholm syndrome!

I need to escape

MCX CEO Brian Mooney tells Re/code that CurrentC may not see a broad launch until 2016, depending on how the early testing in Ohio proceeds.

Hey, Brian Mooney, you'll be lucky if CurrentC sees anything approaching a "broad launch" at all. I suggest you start looking for another endeavor, sir. You're on a sinking ship that's heading nowhere.

They're all over the place. The problem is a lot of stores haven't activated the chip reader yet. Even KMart has readers that are capable of taking chip cards, but they won't turn them on. I know Walmart allows payment with EMV cards in the chip slot. I think Home Depot was another one that has been mentioned before but I haven't tried to use my card there in a long time. I think someone should post a list of stores that currently accept EMV payment with their reader actually ON.

I've seen the chip capable Verifone readers at stores like Byrne Dairy, Victoria's Secret, Aeropistale, American Eagle, Walmart, AT&T, Hess/Speedway, and other places.

What is it with KMart now anyways? Seems like the stores are poorly maintained and built for scumbags to shop there.

You do. I was with my credit union for almost 20 years. They were really good to me at first - then it all slid downhill. Inertia (aka laziness) kept me there.

Why have a three-year exclusivity period that expires BEFORE the product is launched?

I suspect that they had wanted to launch about a year ago. Then, Apple Pay came along about this time last year and they had to go back to the drawing board with CurrentC. They simultaneously started enforcing the exclusivity agreements that they seemingly had no interest in enforcing when Apple Pay wasn't a threat. Then, CurrentC's database of beta testers was hacked toward the end of last year. The MCX just can't catch a break...and I have no sympathy for them.

Find another credit union. The banks are, and always will be the bigger crooks.

I did, Barclays (UK) aren't a launch partner for ApplePay citing 'future' for their involvement. So I've opened up an account with Sandander - just about to close my Barclaycard account and will look to move my mortgage and possibly joint account away from them. Seems a bit petty I guess, but I think Banks need to listen a bit more.
