I had to waste time figuring out what the T-shirt said. (I don't know Chinese at all.)

浦东 Apple Store 零售店

浦东 - pǔdōng - a district of Shanghai, [waterfront + east].
Apple Store - yep
零售店 - língshòudiàn - Retail Store

I still find it fascinating that Apple (western?) trademarks are presented in a completely non-native alphabet. Imagine the western consumer seeing the 佳能 or キャノン EOS Rebel on the western shelves.

shanghai been Separated by the "huang pu" river and the east part named as "pu dong" so it's just a suburb name

I'm no expert, but that seems pretty common in China. It just feels unusual because it is uncommon everywhere else (except the United States of course). I think I've read that this is actually a requirement. I think that China is pretty obsessed with using their alphabet for everything related to legal matters. They change their product names to english for us, so I don't see why we shouldn't change ours for them. Maybe someone who knows more about this could comment.

the t-shirts look so much better than the ones we got at the Apple Upper West Side opening. the upper west side ones are wack compared to these.

Is this a real Apple Store or a replica?

Thanks… just spat coffee all over my keyboard ;)

Despite the cringe-worthy employee high-fiving and ceremonial chanting, Apple's retail strategy is spot on and going from strength to strength.

ePad

One of the photos they posted caught my attention. I don't remember an iPad in this form factor. Oh -- wait -- it's an ePad.

For some reason that picture reminds me of worshiping. It seems that Apple purposely markets things that way.

I've seen a few others describe the entrance, but no one has mentioned an elevator or alternative public entrance for those who would be challenged by stairs - I'm just curious where it is.

In most parts of Asia, you're basically screwed if you're confined to a wheelchair.

That said, I believe Apple has another accommodating entrance in the mall.

I prefer the cubes. They have a nice dog bowl full of water (Good water). The NYC flagship has a glass elevator down the middle of the shaft. Over all, I would recommend the smaller Apple stores. The big ones are fun to hang around in, but the small ones are less crowded so you get better service.

If you think the T-shirt is cool, wait until you get hold of the Apple logo umbrella. The umbrella body is made from fiberglass! These umbrella were handing out in the early morning when it was raining. They are later collected back by store workers. But a few lucky ones still managed to get hold of one.

LOL Shanghai now has a STARGATE !!!!!!!! :D

proof that Steve was cured by a Goauld :p

Actually, this is proof that apple does in fact have aliens working for them!!!! OMG I ALWAYS KNEW IT!!! :p:D:cool::apple:
But, on a serious note, I'm fairly certain that the picture is supposed to resemble the layout of the new Apple Store's grounds, with the apple in the middle being that stairwell.

Wow! Glass stairway!

I would be afraid to walk on those glass stairways... imagine walking on a frozen lake... Yes, I know the glass is strong enough to withstand people walking on them... but it's still scary to imagine the glass shattering as you walk on them...

On a second note, it's a good thing those are translucent glass and not transparent... imagine all the perverts who just hand around the lower level or the store just to get a "view."

I’m pretty sure they will have no slip grip on the glass
