Just as long as it doesn't ask me if I am the Keymaster...

Are you the Keymaster?

Evidently, you don't either. You are waaaaay behind the times. Read this article about what young, modern Chinese women expect a guy to be able to afford if they're even going to consider him boyfriend material.

Then read this article about what Chinese visitors think of how average Americans live.

We here in the west are actually looking pretty poor to those living in modern, China, especially those from cities like Shanghai.

Thank you for the great article, the second one was particularly interesting - I have to admit I turn off my lights when I am not in the room, if I need to heat the house I'll close the doors to the rooms that I'm not actually going to be using, I maybe eat meat 2-3 times per week. The problem with Hollywood movies is that they give an unrealistic vision of what life is actually life in the west which reminds me very much of the essay I wrote about 'romanticisation of the other'.

Queues remind me of the World Expo happening in Shanghai also.
It's a very interesting location; tourists flock to this area and it is these people who are likely able to afford Apple products (the prices there are almost the same as here (Aust) but the average Chinese wage is much much lower)

Question to be asked over and over again: "Um, what time do you open?"

Reply: "10 Minute!"

:)

p.s. if you don't get this joke, you've never ordered fast-food Chinese food...in the USA

yeah, it's great news for Apple, and fans. but unfortunately, most Chinese people can't afford to buy mac in there. you don't know how much people earn over there. so unlikely most countries, Apple is not for everybody. it's shame to tell you that communist (socialism) screws everything up. I assume that there will be additional policy government will attach on Apple store. who knows? someday, they will push it like Google so that all good companies will have to move out of this country. by the way, unlikely other countries, sale on Apple products will not be pretty as much as we expect. I think that it is just a symbol that Apple launched their flagship store in another country in Asia. yeah, we know China is big. but consumer system is hard.

You are right, most Chinese people can't afford to buy a mac. so we are working on a solution to solve this problem that Chinese government gonna buy the Apple inc and give each ppl a MAC when ppl need one.

Doesn't appear Apple has any problems with competing in China. 25 stores by the end of 2011 is probably the 2nd largest number of Apple stores in any one country. With 1.3 billion people and an economy that knows no lows Apple won't stop at 25 stores after 2011 as that won't be enough for the Chinese appetite.

im in Shanghai atm for my holidays, ill be back to Australia in a week. I was in the store half an hour before it opened and saw all the exciting and extraordinary moments from the inside. And it just happens that i have that t-shirt, if anyone want one. email me. :)

Designed in California, made for China.

And the t-shirt made in LA

Am I the only one who finds it odd that in China their T-shirts are made in the USA and here in the USA our T-shirts are made in China?

A Few Pix from Inside

Here's a few photos from inside the store on opening day.

Lol thanks , yours is the funniest post of the day. China's $5 trillion economy surely cannot sustain an Apple store....

May the picture in this article remind us Americans of a universal truth: Never, ever get involved in a land-based war with China.

China is a lot more disorganized than you think, kind of like the US. Of course we couldn't beat the Japanese in a land war either, hence the bombs being dropped.
