In terms of the music artwork on the lockscreen-once you press the artwork and it becomes larger, does it stay that way permanently or until you swipe up and then when you lock the screen it becomes small again?

It stays as you last left it. Large or small. You decide what you prefer.

It stays the way it was
 
I've found myself settling on the weather preset combined with some basic weather widgets for AQI and temp/conditions. It's perfect because it not only reflects the environment around you from a functional point of view but also aesthetically, it's the wallpaper equivalent of True Tone. I think it's Apple's best wallpaper idea and implementation to date because of that perfect dual purpose.

Bright and sunny outside? Your phone feels bright and sunny accordingly. Raining and gloomy? Your phone matches that mood. As it gets dark the wallpaper changes to a matching gradient and finally settles on a dark starlit background for evening use, exactly what I want at night because I don't want to be blasted with light. As a bonus all of the possible views are subtle enough not to distract from the app grid when unlocked (exactly what I want).
