For $15 a month, $180 a year? Much cheaper to self insure for $75 using one of the online screen replacement places and have your money work for you in the bank. $0 cost to you if you happen never to shatter the glass.

Yea, but what if you drop your phone and it snaps in half how much is it going to cost to fix it?

I would suggest a screen replacement unless you are willing to cough up another $199
Best bet.

I believe they just give you a warranty replacement if you take it into the store.
Not covered under warranty. (apple warranty)

Advice to never follow:
go to any repair shop like mobile kangaroo or something like that and they will replace it for less than 150$ I've done that July 15 2008 after lining up for the 3G for 12hours. Then go to the apple store and make something up so they will exchange for a new one.

Just take out some phone insurence for it, if they ask to see the phone, ask your friend if you can borrow his to 'prove' that it isn't already broken and remember to your sim in it in case they call it.
Then, a few days later, claim it on accidental damage, they repair it for free or give you a new one. If they only cover lossage just say you lost it, you can then keep or cancel the insurence after you got your new iPhone.

***************
If you paid for it on your credit card, there might be a warranty program. I know there is with AMEX.
As previous posters said.
Amex does. :D
You can run it over with your car and Amex will replace it.
As previous posters also said. ;)

i'll give you $100 for it. you can keep the case though. candy shell fail.
Sorry but candy shell has nothing to do with this. It offers no screen protection. See a crack in the plastic? No? Ok then, no failure on the Candy Shell cases' part.

OP: The $199 is your best bet, which you already know.

when it dropped, i was surprisingly kinda calm, thinking about how good the Speck candyshell is but then i looked down and saw it was screen down...and then got scared :(

The Speck Candyshell has a thick rubber lip that runs around the screen face of the iPhone and protrudes out about 1/4". If it landed flat on the concrete that rubber lip should have protected the phone.

A lot of people don't like the capsul rebel cases, but the rubber along the edges keeps the screen far back enough that i've dropped my phone face down on pavement about 4x over the past 9 months, not a scratch or a crack.

Step 1: Walk into the Apple store ( appointment or not )

Step 2: Breakdown in the middle of the store crying and screaming " IT BROKE!!! IT BROKE!!! AHHHHH!!!! "

Step 3: An apple worker may come over and ask what's the matter

Step 4: point to your phone still crying ( no words now ) maybe some cry boogers would be helpful.

Step 5: ????

Step 6: NEW IPHONE!!!!

Awesome!

Maybe fall to your knees while you are crying and mumble, she is not going to be happy - I can't go back to her with it like this.... is not safe for me....

Yeh, then a week later say it got stolen and sell it on ebay and then get a new one from the insurance company. Repeat several times until you have enough money to buy all future iphones. Tip: make up different reason why you need a new one to avoid looking suspicious e.g. dropped it off a boat into a whales blow hole, accidental stuck it in the nuclear reactor at work, an ape stole it at the zoo and fed it to a zebra or anything else that is believable

And you wonder why insurance cost so much....

Yeh, my rebel saved my phone heaps of times until i replaced it with a switch easy color which also saved my phone plenty of times. But now i don't use a case.

I have the same case and the phone dropped on a corner, bounced, then landed on it's face ... it was fine.

Insurance warranties are done by serial number...

Thats main reasons i bought it. I thought it would do a good job in a direct landing on the screen...but it didnt. Only good thing is that the case and everything other than the screen is in great shape. The candyshell did its job as far as protecting what is covered

Maybe the concrete where it landed was convex or curved and so the concrete could make it to the screen.

I still think that case should have protected the phone if it landed on a flat surface.

Here's my 3GS with my cheap screen breakage and splash protection insurance policy. It was $32 from Amazon. Yeah, I know it's not the most popular case, but I love it and it's protected very well against the most common accident scenarios.

wahhh its fraud wahhh

plz.

go for it, OP

If everyone thought as you did the world would be a rotten place to live. Billions of opportunists openly cheating every way they could to save a buck. The few honest people paying for it.

Insurance

Went out to my car tonight, iPhone slipped out of my hand and .... Landed Screen first on the concrete. Had a brand new Speck candyshell on it, which of course did nothing for screen protection.

Now...my brand new 3GS has a completely shattered screen  FML... Just venting pretty much.

Now, i am off to buy a new one i guess. Apple doesnt cover this type of thing right? Question...though i think i already know the answer... Since i bought the new 3GS under subsidize pricing ($199) and apple wont cover screens breaking, so i am going to have to buy a 2nd one to replace my new one for the list price or can i get the subsidized price again?

Any idea if i could sell it on ebay or here for... $100?

Square Trade covers Accidental loss for the iPhone. Have had it on the 3g too. Apple will not cover it.

Been using the Casemate hard leather case (for AT&T now). That thing has saved both iPhones in falls, the 2g and the 3g.

Was thinking about another case. Will cross off the Speck Candyshell.
Put the 3GS in the Casemate leather case. Thing is still in excellent shape.
Hmmm maybe don't mess with success.

Sorry about your incident.

Do you do curls with that or clean and jerk?
Just kidding. Looks sturdy. :apple:

Incase Fail

you should just take it to the Apple Store explain what happened and ask them what your options are.

similar thing happened to me with my 3g. I was at the gym when i dropped my iphone with the ncase slider. The LCD ended up being damaged. Took it to the apple store and the employee said he would take care of right away. five mins later he comes back with a new LCD and glass LCD in place. it can't hurt to try.

Wow, I had heard some place did a replacement screen for $40. Free due to a solid from a guy at the Apple Store is amazing.

Guess you do not use the Incase anymore. Scratch that from my potential replacement/addition to the Casemate (for AT&T) hard leather case.

That thing saved two previous iPhones at least six times. Amazing.

It also might help if you bought your case through Apple as well. With my first gen iPhone I had it only a couple of weeks and it slipped out of the case, landed face down, and slid down our driveway. I walked in with the shattered screen iPhone, the case, and the receipt showing I bought both from them and they replaced (not repaired) the iPhone and refunded me for the crappy case.

sucks for you guys

What the **** is wrong with you? Do you have any honesty, any morals, any pride in yourself? People like you don't deserve to be alive. You know what? You're a liability to the rest of the world. You're the cause of the current recession. It's all your fault that things has gone wrong in this world. Good luck living happily knowing you caused stress for millions of people!

That was my rant. :)

It might be a cultural thing. I've met people from certain parts of the world, certain countries that believe that cheating or stealing is okay as long as you get away with it and they say that everyone there feels the same way.
