you...

It might be a cultural thing. I've met people from certain parts of the world, certain countries that believe that cheating or stealing is okay as long as you get away with it and they say that everyone there feels the same way.

are talking about shame cultures. They react to only getting caught.

little update:

Spoke with a friend of mine at the apple store, but could not get a free replacement out of him. He said best they can do is the screen replacement for $199.

So i have an appointment in a few hours and will be getting a new screen....followed by SquareTrade warranty ;)

that's good, maybe you should have worked around your friend first I've heard a lot of peoples stories where they get a free replacement because they talk to a manager or higher person, and telling them you had a case is a plus too.

Better make sure it's the oleophobic-coated screen. Otherwise, save your money and get it done at one of the online screen replacement places.

Just take out some phone insurence for it, if they ask to see the phone, ask your friend if you can borrow his to 'prove' that it isn't already broken and remember to your sim in it in case they call it.
Then, a few days later, claim it on accidental damage, they repair it for free or give you a new one. If they only cover lossage just say you lost it, you can then keep or cancel the insurence after you got your new iPhone.

Gah! So many spelling errors.

Anyway, how would you explain the different serial numbers? Accidental damage doesn't magically change the serial numbers or IMEI numbers.

I'm glad that worked out for you after all! :)

Just got back...

Got a brand new iphone instead of the screen replacement :D Still had to pay the $199 but im so glad they gave me a new phone instead of just replacing the screen. I was afraid of possible internal damage that might come to life later on.

Thanks Apple lol

Myth BUSTED!!!

If you paid for it on your credit card, there might be a warranty program. I know there is with AMEX.

Yep. I had a pair of sunglasses that got broken (chipped) portion of lenses. I filled out a claim with Amex and they had me send in pictures and the reciept. I got credited for the cost of the sunglasses. They indicate taht they may ask for you to send the item to them. I would give it a try if you used Amex.

Here's my 3GS with my cheap screen breakage and splash protection insurance policy. It was $32 from Amazon. Yeah, I know it's not the most popular case, but I love it and it's protected very well against the most common accident scenarios.

look at the size of that thing !!! Airlines will ask you to check your baggage if you try board with one of those !!

I prefer my 3G S naked. May not protect it, but at least its not a monstrous fugliness.

Not really, the customer would have received a white box "refurbished iPhone 3G S" but they don't exist in large volume just yet so they exchanged the damaged unit. Think of it this way the broken screen iPhone 3G S is now heading in the the refurbishment loop and one of you might get it as a warranty exchange in the near future.

Ugh, I just dropped mine this morning :(. The crack isn't that bad, but it's still noticeable. I'd rather not have to pay $200 to repair it :(.

Well, that's what cases are for, to (usually) prevent these things from happening.

I have my phone in a little shield case and in a year I have never had a problem, I am just extra careful and avoid situations in which I will have to leap for the phone (like using BT if I am using the phone in the car).

I have an Incase on it, but it still has the crack. I had my hands full, and it slipped out of my backpack onto the concrete :(.

Damn, that things big. It would have been cheaper to cut out a rectangle out of your pillow and place it in there lol. :D

Hey!!! Stop yelling on the internet!!!

And yeah that box thing won't work at all they are made out high grade potatoes, everyone knows recycled pototoes are stronger than steel.

A good russet potato can split an industrial-grade diamond in half.

True fact.

I'd hope that my insurance company was smart enough to ask for serial numbers so that every customer couldn't scam them and drive my premiums up. If not, I think I'd switch insurers.

My gf is lucky then. She dropped her 3G coming out of the car last week. Landed on the sided, luckily, first before ending up face down on the concrete. Picked it up to see it was still okay.

Had I checked this forum last night I would have been able to tell you that they replace screens for $199 because when I had a speaker issue they first replaced the front panel and it said "non-warranty $199" or something to that extent on the receipt they gave me, and that's how I knew they charged $199.

But I'm glad everything worked out okay. Gotta be careful with these babies with or without cases!!
