I'm curious why you want the LTE? Why not just tether it to your phone, when you need to?
Some of us don't have smartphones. Why bother? I've got an iPad around 95% of the time.

I have a 32 GB wi-fi loaded in the Apple Store app, set for pickup in a local APple Store. Thumb precariously hovering over Place Order.
Anyone have experience with picking up a launch-day device?
How does that work?
Unfortunately, while AT&T and Verizon have announced pricing plans for the iPad, neither have announced official support for mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. If AT&T follows the smartphone practice, you'll need the $50 5GB plan (otherwise, there really would be no reason to pick that plan since the $30 plan is 3GB with $10/GB overages). Verizon has a 1GB plan for $20 (vs AT&T's $15 for 250MB) so that looks a bit tempting, but it would be interesting to know what plans, if any they intend to support the hotspot feature with.
Glad I got my order in right after preordering went active. Anyone have any idea the amount these will sell on Ebay for?
I wouldn't necessarily take this as fact for now, but when I was googling "AT&T vs Verizon LTE iPad" to help me decide which carrier to go with, I came across an article that said "Verizon Wireless told us that mobile hotspot wont cost any extra with the iPad, so you can use this feature without paying an extra fee."

The first day shipping date lasted MUCH longer than I anticipated. I foresee a month long wait for the new iPad, at least one or two versions of it, by the 16th.
Well, that sucks.
If you have an iPad 2, there really is no reason to upgrade, yet. The latest iPad release was, at best, disappointing.
I'm surprised people are picking AT&T LTE iPads over Verizon ones enough to extend the ship date. I fortunately live in Houston where AT&T and Verizon LTE are available, as well as Sprint when they turn theirs on.

I agree. I pre-ordered a Verizon 32GB (white) one myself. My thinking is this:
1. Verizon has a larger established base of LTE support in the USA. Why go with the carrier with less coverage?
2. With the faster data rate, it'll be really easy to burn up your monthly data allocation. Therefore, the AT&T lower-cost plan at $15/month seems inadequate for a 4G LTE device. (I think that's the real reason a lot of people went with AT&T for their iPad. They're simply looking to see who has the cheapest plans and Verizon doesn't bother selling a plan with that small an amount of data on it.) The 2GB of data for $20 price is the same for both carriers though.
I disagree. The retina display and LTE were enough for me. Didn't hurt that I was able to sell my 64 gig 3G iPad 2 for $700 two weeks ago. Next Friday can't get here fast enough.
US Cellular is rolling out LTE this month, so I guess I'm "lucky". OTTH, no iPhone for me. But their service, call quality, and coverage area trumps that for me. Have to carry around both a phone and a Touch though. At the end of the day, a minor inconvenience than not being able to make calls, or getting bent over by AT&T.
you've got to be joking!! $700?? you found a real sucker. you can buy those used for around $350 even in mint condition!!
