Give the users the choice...
Personally I'd only shoot short videos, and I have 100GB of iCloud storage, therefore making 128GB enough.
Not that I could afford an iPhone 13 Pro anyway 😅

Not on the 128GB model? This is terrible news for the three non-Apple sponsored people who will use this feature more than one time.
Video productions use multiple cameras, beyond Red and BlackMagic setups include GoPros to drones, and sometimes iPhones. You can really squeeze an iPhone into tight spaces that others can't.

Apple has truly lost it they droned on about how important Type-C was on the iPad mini to interact with devices and do large data transfers. But it has a weak sauce camera....

Then they talk about high quality massive data usage around filming with iPhone 13 Pro. USB 2.0 transfer rates no Type-C.

"Pro"
You can get USB 3.0 transfer speeds on the newer iOS devices with a USB-C to Lightening cable. I believe that started with the 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9.

If you’re not planning on editing videos, is there any reason to need/want pro res working on your phone?

Considering that once u get close 20 minutes of video, you would be out of space. I would say that this is a smart decision on their part

Obviously it won't provide much benefit to the average user, but at least give them the choice. The hardware is already there.
K, thanks. Definitely agree on the last comment. But for me, I think 128 is fine as videos are mostly off my kids with no editing. Much more interested in telephoto and macro capabilities.

What's the worst that will happen if they enable the feature? Someone takes a bunch of video and realizes their phone is out of space, then deletes it? Then they'll just turn the feature off and never use it again.

But some people might be curious and do some test shots to see how it looks. I mean I don't like Apple deciding what's best for peope, especially when the hardware is already capable

ProRes are MASSIVE size clips, it's not shocking...but now they really should have ditched the 128gb.
Some may not realize this, order a 128 and be VERY upset when the phone cant do what they hoped for.
| Plus ProRes won't come out until a later update...so 14 day return goes by, 128 users will never get that feature in a month or 2 - whenever that may come out.

Also, have they announced which flavor(s) of ProRes it supports? There are 6 types of ProRes.... I imagine it'll probably only support LT or 422?

At that point, Apple should've made 2 TB and 4 TB models available.
I've actually wondered how people handle these file sizes. 4k/60fps basically is 15GB/hr or so, and pulling big files off an iPhone is an exercise in patience.

I've read that Filmic pro can record to external storage, and I assume you need the usb3 camera adapter for high speed. Maybe I'll try that route.
