Haha I bought my new 15" with i7, high res and SSD the day they want out. i still don't have it in my hands yet, because a ****ing volcano blocking the air bridge to Europe.
But Apple says it will be here next week.
had been down in stores ans look after the new model but they haven't reach the market yet.
So a shortage sound like a good explanation.

Ordered my antiglare 15" 2.66 i7 with 8GB RAM on the morning of the 16th.

So not including that day, today is the fifth business day. But to me it seems like five weeks and three days.

The first business day seemed like a week and the second business day seemed like five days. And the third business day seemed like a week again and the fourth business day seemed like eight days. And the fifth business day seems like a week and a half.

I really hope it ships Monday. I don't want my order to be responsible for some kind of dent in space and time.

17" I7 Mac Book Pro

IDG News Service reports that Intel continues to struggle with shortages of its new Arrandale processors, causing price spikes for companies not under contract with Intel looking to buy the chips on the open market.Apple utilizes Arrandale Core i5 and i7 chips in its 15" and 17" MacBook Pro models released last week. Apple had reportedly planned to release the new models last month, but the Intel chip shortages resulted in Apple pushing back the launch to the middle of this month as it looked to firm up its supplies of the necessary chips.

For its part, Apple looks to have secured a steady supply of Arrandale processors through its contracts with Intel. The company continues to offer 24-hour shipping windows for all Arrandale-based MacBook Pro standard configurations through its online stores in much of the world, although the mid-range 15" model appears to be experiencing delays of up to 5 business days in Europe. It is unknown whether those delays are due to chip shortages or other factors, as other MacBook Pro models using the same processors are still showing quick turnaround times.

I ordered my 17" mac book pro with all the upgrades - 8 gig ram, I7 processessor, 512 solid state hard drive, glossy screen. Ordered friday afternoon april 16th. Was told 5-7 days to config and another 5 - 7 days shipping. I was suppose to get in April 26 - 30th. It was at my front door at 10:44AM wednesday the 21st. No problems for me.

My girlfriend just ordered a Macbook Pro 13' from the Apple Store UK and the delivery time said to between 1 to 5 weeks, which seems strangely long considering it has the old Core Duo 2 processor and no custom options. Is this normal for the UK or is it just me (or possibly my gf is talking crap and got it wrong)?

Shouldn't really take that look. All the need to do is chuck it on an airplane and fly it to England. Where's the problem with that? Nothing could possibly stop an airplane to get to England.

Anyway, Apple Store says five working days for 13".
Of course the 13' might take a bit longer :)

I guess I shouldn't have upgraded the memory on my 17" i7 I ordered yesterday and just did it myself. Oh well.

My 15 inch HiRes Matte Display arrived just fine...

Well I must have lucked out then. I custom ordered an i7 15 inch with the high res glossy display and it came two days ahead of schedule. I ordered it last Wednesday evening and it arrived this Wednesday...

Ditto, except for I went with the high res matte display. Love it.
One thing to note is the 7200 RPM drive "upgrade" can definitely be felt in terms of vibration of the standard 5400 RPM drive while laptop computing.

Perhaps even this "glitch" has its "benefits"?

Other than that, love it. Really love the speed of the core i7 and the massive improvement (2x?) in battery life over my 2 iterations old MBPro.

The shipping time for 17" with i7 is 5-7 days too, and it's the processor that bumps up the shipping window (though mine did ship in two days).

Blame Iceland

Delays in Europe huh...

maybe they gave the european stock to the US like they did the iPad..

or

less demand in Europe due to the price hikes (again) despite the currencies being stronger than they were at the last update.

I say blame Iceland or it's #nickcleggsfault

If the mid-April release of the new MBPs was indeed due to CPU shortage, what does that say about Intel's relationship with Apple, considering most other competitors had already started refreshing their laptop lines as early as late January, February at the latest?

Wow, you can feel it the vibration. It's a Seagate right?

?

I think it says other manufacturers are willing to start selling machines with a less certain supply outlook

order placed on 22nd

just wondering about these core i5/i7 shortages....i placed my order on the 22nd (thursday) morning at 4:15am PDT for a 15" 2.66ghz core i7/hi res screen/7200rpm HDD. and i just got an email on the 23rd saying "order acknowledgment". does this mean that they began "building" my MBP?

i recognized the 5-7 day wait, but i also put 2-3 day shipping in hopes that it will speedin the process up (any thoughts on that?) still says delivery for April 30th - May 6th tho :( and hearing about this shortage issue is making the wait feel like it can be pushed back even further!

and lastly, what does the CTO mean in MBP 15.4/2.66/CTO

Custom To Order.

I ordered a 13-inch MacBook Pro standard build and a CTO 15-inch Core i7/hi-res/7200 rpm MacBook Pro yesterday. The 13" shipped early this morning but the 15" i7 is showing a 7 day delay. In otherwords, IAWTP. :)

It's a bird, it's a plane, No it's AMD!

Amen.

All that talk by the paid pundits about intel's fabulous fabs, and there efficiency to deliver.

And still intel are pulling dirty tricks to spike prices. As if their monopolising tactics were not enough. Well, more money to the israely military industrial complex, at least someone benefits...

From experience with other devices, hard drive vibrations can sometimes change if the drive is in a very slightly changed location. Take the drive out, move it around a bit, put it back in and there is a small chance that the vibration goes away.

CTO means "Configure to Order"

Apple always delays notebook updates by one to several months. We waited for penryn, we waited for Montevina etc. The only thing that gets updates near product launch seems to be the Mac Pro and Apple's mobile devices.
Not always. The MBA first came out with a cpu that wasn't shipping until half a year later. It was like Star Trek! (for time travel, not for tech)

Also, I think everyone has forgotten this:

Actually, it came out with a standard shipping CPU, but in a smaller form factor carrier that was on Intel's roadmap for half a year later. The silicon chip in the MBA was a standard Intel part, not a custom CPU.

Special Order 15" Hi-Res+8MB+SSD Now 16 Days at MacMall

Apparently this shortage is affecting most supply channels.

On 14 April I ordered from MacMall a 15" McBook Pro with:
-- HiRes Glossy Screen
-- 8 GB memory
-- 256GB Solid State Drive

I got a message from MacMall on 23 April that the previously expected 7 day window now estimated at 16 days with arrival at MacMall/shipment to me now set for 30 April.

I use MacMall /BhPhoto / JR.COM since these vendors will ship to military APO/FPO addresses by US Postal Service - which Apple will not do.

does it matter what country i choose?

hey all, i have a random question....i've had times when i would go to the apple site and it would load up the apple.com/UK (instead of U.S.) and im positive i set my region to the U.S. site. but im paranoid if by any chance i DID order it through the U.K. apple site instead of the U.S. would it matter? would that effect my order in anyway? i know prices will differ. but anything else?

the total price for my 15" 2.66 core i7 mbp with a 7200rpm 500gb HDD, hi-res glossy screen, 4gb ram was $2,310.70 (just making sure if anyone who ordered it through the U.S. site with the same configurations would have the same price as mine.)

someone please cut off my paranoid mind!!!! lol thanks :apple:
