If I want to watch videos or movies, or having zoom meetings, I use an iPad or Mac. I use a phone as a phone and don't try to make it a one size fits all device, which I don't believe Apple intended for the customer at large. Too many people have embraced the iPhone as the one size fit and that is why they have trained themselves to spend $1500 on a luggage size phone, even though many have an iPad and Mac etc…

I think it’s programming. I pretty much use my 12 Mini as a one size fits all device for media consumption, social media, websites, IM, photography, emails, gaming, shopping, video calls, podcasts, radio, GPS, banking, etc… I do have other devices but I don’t really need them as I use my phone 95% of the time. The Mini is big enough for all that stuff imo.

I have never owned a Plus or Max sized phone though so perhaps I am missing out.

Definitely get the 13 Mini

i upgraded from the 12 mini and the difference is truly massive. Much better camera and super battery life.

the only issue i have now is what will i do when there isn’t a 14 mini to buy…

Keep your 13 Mini for 4-5 years? It’s the perfect small phone so there is no reason to replace it anytime soon.

I have both the max and mini, both for different purposes.. mini should be good for most uses and so light you hardly notice its there!
Same here , have you locked in a case for your mini ? It was actually easy for me to decide on the mini and got the apple leather . But for my 13PM I have slot of cases and can’t decide lol

I’m curious, are they both using the same phone number? Do they share simultaneously? If not, how do you switch? How often do you switch and is it cumbersome? Thanks!

For me I just switch out the SIM card when I want to use my mini , and just log into to a few apps I need notifications for .

Love the 12 mini. Will likely get the 13 mini, if it’s the last one.
It most definitely will for at least 2yrs.
Get a 13 Mini. I have a 12 Mini and it’s the best iPhone I have ever owned. You definitely won’t be disappointed unless a large screen is non-negotiable for you. I consume a lot of media on my phone and it is basically my main computer so I watch a lot of video content, browse the internet, listen to music and podcasts along with tonnes of other stuff on my phone. The Mini is perfectly suitable as my main machine. The only issue is battery life however I have resolved that with the MagSafe battery charger which has essentially doubled the battery life.

If the 13 Mini is what you want, go and get it! :)
Likewise here, iPhone 12 mini is THE best iPhone I’ve ever bought & used. It’s not perfect there are 2 things I wished improved and Apple has on paper done it with the 13 mini ; for me at least.
Not sure what's great about it...sure it's fine for a quick view of a YouTube video on the fly, but when I'm home in bed watching Netflix I just need a bigger screen. Doesn't help that the screen is only 1080p and isn't as bright as the bigger screen phones. Also the phone speakers are weak.... Like I said it sucks for video consumption at least for me

Well for some us our first smartphones were the first ever available give or take 3yrs. Big smartphones we’re only from Nokia, then HTC and those were bricks! The others fit in your hand albeit with 2.5-2.7” screens and still rocked numerical T9 keypads lol.

Media consumption on a smartphone, regardless of size is exactly that for 1 person = the same. Most that watch a video is from 30 seconds to less than an hour. There is a reason why TikTok and IG is so successful: mostly for youth it’s attention span limitations. For everyone else it’s the comfort & convenience of availability for consumption. Anything longer or for real watching it’s time to use the TV or computer monitor.

Some mentioned an iPad in bed+articulating arm. For me since I worked at home 4/5wks per month my comp desk is facing the head of my bed so 34” ultrawide at 1800R HDR10 plus pillows I’m super good ??

Rather than a huge phone for media consumption in bed, isn't it easier to have a Mini Phone for portability and a cheap iPad for media in bed? Even the smallest iPad is bigger than the Max iPhone and even an iPad with a great screen is also cheaper than an iPhone. iPhone Mini + iPad seems like the winning combo for those that want both.

See some others get it ;) now does Apple Studio support AirPlay from iPhone for both audio+video ?!!! Hmmm.

Maybe Apple will upgrade the SE to a 5.4" format. I don't care if they call it a SE or a Mini.

Many where hoping or wanting for that. iPhone 12 mini sold 25.4million devices in 3 QTRs before Apple started cutting production to lower numbers. iPhone SE 3 was an insult to customers regardless of its price, Apple cut production orders in less than 5wks! Apple should’ve waited until 2023 and use the shell of the 12 mini, LCD screen, Touch ID in the power button (no it’s not too small Xperia Z5 compact had this at this size btw yrs ago), and use 1 camera.

People and a few analysts said the 12/13 mini price is too high, well it’s now costing Apple TOO much for going with the iPhone SE 3.

Apple went cheap on the iPhone before and they get pie in their face: iPhone 5C

Order my iPhone 13 mini red, going to try to make the switch to see if I like it. Wish me luck!
Wishing you best and hope it suits your needs.

Reading this thread I was in a bit of a toss (for 4 days) as I have the option to upgrade to iPhone 13 mini or the Pro.

My only reasons for the Pro are:
1. Using LIDAR in the gym to record/map exercise range of motion while video log of consistency and an accountable progression. Not a priority.

2. Future use with a mini drone. Not a priority but with iPad Mini a better remote experience anyway.

3. Like come-on that Graphite finish is spot on! Give us 12/13 mini THAT and we’re right back to iPhone 4S build quality with iphone sex appeal. Well a future custom case.

Like I said earlier the 13 mini on paper tops all my wants for improvement over the 12 mini exactly what I’m after.

I’ve ordered my 13 mini 512GB to arrive end of this week.

Use case:
Phone like duh
Organization, idea pad,
Educational tool (don’t look at me weird)
Media consumption & creation (pics, audio & video)
Like @dulgy I bike ride now as much as I can: health and less pocket jingling in track pants the better!!

Drone control + controller
Late night iBooks reader until iPad Mini 6.

Also Apple has done the original SE 2yrs after the iPhone 5S? They did it again with the SE 2 using the iPhone 7’s case, they just tried with the 8’s glass back. If my math is right that’s 2024/2025, plenty of iOS support for a better return of the mini ;) AC+ keeps you through, some credit cards add 2yrs alone so case/screen protector for remaining iOS supper years.

This is a generational/regional gap. Most westerners grew up with PCs, as such they already have larger screen device (laptop or PC).

In contrast, majority of people around the world have the smartphone as their actual first ever computing device. Thus it's normal for the market to prefer a phone that can be everything from a phone to an entertainment device. Also, many people in Asia spend their time in public transport. Having a phone with a larger screen to enjoy their favorite shows on the go becomes the norm.

Thus it makes sense to see there are more demand for a larger screen phone than not.

There were plenty of clowns on MacRumors, in the iPhone X days, that stated that the X design in a mini iPhone 5S/SE form factor was an “Automatic” buy. Yet it’s a low volume product.

The only reason I don’t regret getting a 13 Mini over my 13 Pro is ProMotion (and maybe battery life). The Mini form factor is ideal, but ProMotion is more important to me.

I’m disappointed it’s getting discontinued rather than evolving with updates, but I guess I’m part of the problem.

I wasn’t one of those people, but to be fair, at least some of them might have specifically meant the size of the 5/SE. The iPhone Mini is significantly bigger.

I did say that, and to be fair, I did buy the 12 Mini. I still prefer the original SE though.

I have both 13 Pro Graphite and 13 mini starlight. As much as I love the pro, I always lean toward my mini more often. The size and portability is just awesome. Yes, not having promotion on the mini is noticeable after using the pro, but it’s not the end of the world. I will be using and keeping my 13 mini for years to come.

I had a 12 Max but then got a 12 mini from AT&T on a special deal. When I read that the mini will probably not be sold after the mini 13, I traded in my 12 Max to Apple and got a 13 with 256gb, paying the difference ($200 or so). I am very happy with the mini 13, and also glad I got rid of the Max, which I felt was like a boat anchor. The 13 and 12 mini's are amazing iPhones.

Me too

I miss those days

Something tiny and powerful used to be the epitome of amazing design
…for everything other than displays.

We always wanted bigger displays, whether it was our television, our computer monitor, the display in our vehicle, or our personal consumption devices.

They have the ability to make super tiny smart phones, think of smart watches. The only thing limiting what we could do with them is based on the display size.

The majority of people with smart phones do not have tablets. Out of all the people who have tablets, most of them don’t bring their tablet outside of their home on a regular basis. Only a small percentage of the people who own tablets take them with them every day.

But just about everyone with a smart phone brings it everywhere that they go. It fits into your pocket, unlike a tablet, so it’s easy to bring with you. And since you have the smart phone with you most of the time, it just stands to reason to have a phone with a big enough display to do the things that you need.

I run my business off of my smart phone, the reason why I bought a new 13 Pro Max is because the bigger display makes it easier for me to do all of the work that I do on the phone. I did buy an iPad mini recently and I have been considering bringing the iPad with me everywhere and trading my Pro Max for a 13 mini. But the more I think about that, the more I realize I don’t want to have to carry the iPad everywhere that I go.

You could get a leg bag to hold your mini. I did that for a long time.

I often see people in Macrumors say that they carry their iPad everywhere they go. I always wonder what they mean by everywhere, and how they carry it. Hand carrying everywhere seems crazy to me. Small bag/pouches/purses make sense, but I only ever see women with those, and even that seems to be getting rarer these days. Bigger bags seem impractical to bring in many situations. Big coat pockets make sense, but really just for an iPad mini, and if you happen to live in an environment where you can wear a coat every day. So yeah, I wonder if they literally mean everywhere.

That’s a really good question.

I do see some people who seem to take a bag everywhere they go, such as a backpack or a small briefcase. I am not one of those people.

Since I bought the iPad Mini I have been taking it out with me to my truck each day. Then I take it into each customer’s house that I go into. Either I hand carry it in if I’m just doing a consultation, or I will slip it into my tool bag if I am doing work. I will hand carry it into the supply house. I hand carried it into the doctors office the other day.

But at this point I am now thinking about backing off a bit, leaving it in the truck more and just using my iPhone 13 Pro Max when outside of my home or truck.

I see, so you take it out every day, but it could stay in your vehicle, say if you stop by to get groceries.
So I think a lot of people mean “everywhere” figuratively to mean a lot of places. Obviously no one can mean it truly literally because there are very infrequent special situations where you can’t bring anything, not even a phone, but just speaking in terms of daily/weekly/monthly routine, there might be some who literally take it everywhere. I just wish I could know who those people are and ask them how they do it haha. Maybe I’ll make a survey thread. Maybe I already have and I forgot lol. Ah whatever, I’m too lazy. I guess I’m not that curious.
