Really? You didn't like my generalizations?

No, it was stupid.

Reason why I said that "iOS is for people who want to have someone else choose for them, while Android is for people who want to decide for themselves" is because "iOS is like a gated community, where Apple determines which apps can live there and controls the property and its landscaping."

While on Android, it's the opposite, you choose what you do with your choices.

So, riddle me this, why is it that the majority of android buyers are looking for same apps that iOS has, and the market rejoices each time an iOS port makes it to android? Is Apple now making decisions for android market too? Why can't they get their own exclusive apps? I mean people can choose man! Why don't they choose?

What did you decide on android so far that makes you a freedom fighter? Widgets? ROMs? Juice defender? Your personal preference is not a fact. With Apple at controls one can still choose many apps to do so many things. The android market looks to me like a blog with tons of widgets and other phone saving utilities always on the top. Some choice that is.

There is not even a decent mobile matlab app for the platform that lets me choose my apps. Why?

It takes time for Android to get apps because there are several phones out there with different hardware and several apps have different requirements. But most apps on the iPhone are on Android as well.

Android has exclusive apps. Google Maps with Navigation, Flash, Gaming Emulators, Chrome to Phone and even some Adult apps. :p

Customizability is what iOS doesn't have. It's not my preference. It's a fact.

One of Android’s biggest advantages over iOS is the fact that it allows third party app stores. If you’d prefer not to use the Android Market, you still have options like SlideMe Market, GetJar, and Amazon’s Appstore, to name a few.

No it is your preference. I am fine with no widgets or "customization". I am very much fine with OEMs and carriers not allowed to touch the UI at all infact.

Again the third party stores carry the same iOS ports. SO you can go buy an app from gameloft website. Which releases an iOS port every couple weeks after it is out on the rival platform already. How is this an advantage is beyond me.

Oh and amazon market. lol. Wake me up when it is outside US. My only decent "choice" in Canada is android market when i use an android. How nice to have choices indeed!

Ever since I got into Android, I am starting to get addicted looking at other Android phones. Today, I headed to Best Buy to check out phones just to kill time. I don't really prefer Android over iOS. My biggest knock on Android is stability and battery life. You get these weird glitchy moments. But lately, the things that tempt me the most has been build quality and design.

The iPhone 4/4S looks great but doesn't feel great to hold. Too boxy. Glass might feel premium but it isn't that practical. Plastic can crack and scratch, but doesn't shatter like glass. Metal will dent and a heavier phone can damage the innards when dropped. Among all the Android phones that stood out, the Motorola Droid Bionic and LG Thrill 4G had some interesting designs and materials used. And I still think HTC is one of the best at design and build quality. I like the Sensation 4G and am looking at the specs of the Amaze.

My next phone should not have glass on the back anymore and it needs to be rounder around the edges. That Galaxy Nexus looks so tempting, but I may just sit out this year and wait for the next iPhone or Nexus next year. The phone with the best screen display at 4.3-4.5 inches, solid all-around specs with CPU/GPU/camera, has a decent back that isn't prone to dents, shatter, scratches, and fingerprints, and has rounded edges will get my money next year. My gut feeling tells me it will be a Nexus phone over iPhone. The only thing that keeps me staying with iPhone is iOS, stability, and the iTunes ecosystem.

Customizability isn't a preference. :S I simple said Android is more customizable and you think it's a preference.... How is that a preference?

For your own education, and to broaden your perspective, everyone who can effort it should try our Android IMO. At if you have not bought your 4S, now is the good time to do it. Apple is getting too complacent and needs to know that we don't like the "if you want big screen, go get an iPad or Android" answer.

Because you prefer customization and i don't? How is it so hard to understand?

Someone wants to drink coca cola and other wants an orange juice. That isn't preference?

Exactly. I never really get the point of these threads. You will never know what you like to use and prefer unless it is actually in your hands. Forum posts can't decide your happiness.

I have tried android multiple times myself and i know how it is, but anytime someone asks me about it i say "go try it". I can tell them about how i feel about it of course, but they should still try it in the end. Same for every thing.

Omg. No. I never said I prefer anything.

Then how do you make choices to use a certain phone, tablet, computer etc?

Do you roll a dice?

I prefer unified and polished platforms. That's my reason to stick with iOS or WP7. But it is still my preference. It doesn't mean I am a sheep or someone else should not try other options like android etc.

Same goes for other platforms. Some people prefer the features they offer, some don't. Generalizing and stereotyping doesn't make your case.

I compare them. That's how.

Exactly. Then you choose what interests you. Human nature.

Just like i have an android phone right now but iOS 5 now interests me more so ill buy a 4S and probably look for options next year.

Just because i am buying a 4S instead of keeping android doesn't automatically make it a fact that android sucks and iOS stomps it. It doesn't. But i prefer something else. Simple as that.

I don't see why that would be an issue.

Anyways, OP should try if he is intrigued. If you like it, use it and enjoy it. Phone battles are not gonna take any of us anywhere. Better things to worry about in this short life.

I compare them, then I choose which is best by first listing out the pros and cons of each device then seeing which has the most pros then choosing the device with the most pros.

The reason for this "useless thread" is because I can see what other people experiences are I am not going to waste money if I am fascinated by it for it in one day and the next I am not. it is about informed decisions

You should post a thread like this on an Android forum as well and compare what people said on both since I think most people on the iPhone section have iPhones.

Which is why it is preference.

For example, 3rd party app stores are pro for you.

They are a con to me.

See?

There is no "factual best". It is all subjective. It is what you think is best. Not that anything is wrong with it. We all do. iOS is not best. Android is not best. WP7 is not best.

They are best for whoever finds the features to be more pros than cons for them.

That's not how pros and cons work though....

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a con.

Duh.

This is also precisely the reason android lovers should stick to androidforums.com than having android feature comparisons in an iPhone forum. Makes it ironic.

I have yet to see a thread in xda about users discussing their iPhone features etc or preferences. Apparently macrumors is turning into a pseudo xda. It is the iPhone forum for crying out loud.

Yes it does.

For example: 3.5 inch screen is a con for you. What about people who like 3.5 inch. Isn't 4 inch a con for them? For me 4.5 inch and up is a con. Is there a bible stating "thou shall only have 4 inch plus screens" ?

For some bad battery life at the expense of replaceable battery is a con. For others a replaceable battery is a pro.

For some an SD card is a con as they would rather get built-in storage. For some it is actually a pro.

For some having a unified app store is a pro because of ease of search and better control leading to safer software. For others it is a con.

For some HTC sense, touchwiz etc are pros. For others, well they loathe them and it is a con.

Need i go on?

Let me explain it better. To me, Pros=features that the phone has, Cons=Features the phone doesn't have or lacks or is bad at.

You mean hardware...

Sorry, hardware alone means jack to me. It is the brains that counts.

No, features of each OS.

When comparing phones, I do look at the hardware though, not the internals. But the externals, like the screen, and other features different phones have. Some have SD slots, some have usb ports, etc.

Isn't that what i just covered in my post above ?
