Buy a 4G now so that you can open it in September. If you wait for the 5G, you won't have it opened until January!

Well. Lets do some calculations.

If you buy the 4g now:
June + 4months = October

If you want the 5g:
September + 4 months = January

It all depends on when you want to start using it. Just add a couple of months to open the box and you should know when you will start using it.

Suggestion: Wake up a couple of minutes early so you can open everything you are putting off 4 months to open :)

Unless the next iPhone goes over 512mb ram then the ipod touch will be staying at 256mb. Apple won't let the iPod be equal to phone in performance.
Except history has demonstrated that, on at least a couple of occasions during the history of these (highly interrelated) products, the then-current generation of iPod touch has had better raw processing performance than the corresponding then-current generation of iPhone.

My gut feeling is that the iPhone and the iPod touch will see simultaneous (or at least, very nearly simultaneous) refreshes, and that both will get RAM and CPU updates to put them in the same ballpark as the iPad 2.

Don't have time

If you don't have time to even open a box then you diffidently won't have time to use the ipod touch so don't get one at all. Just save up your $ for something worth while

I just bought a 4th gen ipod touch. I'll be using it every day and when the new one comes out, I'll sell this one on ebay and put the money towards the new one. No big deal.

Ipod touch 4g

It is way worth purchasing the ipod touch 4g. Especially upgrading from the 1st generation to the 4th. Trust me, you will have plenty of time to use it. From my experience, there is tons of applications you can use to actually help with college. not to mention the internet (email, favorite websites, mac-rumors lol) obviously each generation gets better than the last. The other fact is, the 4g will most likely be able to run the 5g software like the 4g's predecessor's. The 4g is well worth it. Buy it. End of story. :p

The functionality and new features of ipod touch 5g would be missed though.

Its like would you rather accept

put in 100$ now with 5% annual interest

or would you wait a few months when

you can put in 100$ but with 10% annual interest

Both deals are good but it is best to wait just a bit for the better deal.

It is possibly less than 2 months until the newer and better iPod emerges. Most likely twice the memory for the same price, and most likely it will have a better camera and an improved processor.

I'd recommend to wait. Unless so dire necessity is burning you to buy one now.

Agree. Wait a while...

I would suggest to wait for the new touch unless you already bought the 4G.
The new 5G touch will probably include new/more features so you can fully experience iOS 5.

Man, that was painful to read. No offense.

I would buy one after you finished college. iPod 12G will be much better than the current one.

Wait

To be honest the next iPod Touch (5G) is going to be epic. the Reason is basically like a chain reaction. Since many other companies (Samsung etc.) are making more advanced phones, Apple has to keep up. Therefore, since the iPod Touch has always looked exactly alike the iPhone except it is not a phone, the next iPod Touch may be the best yet (obviously).

I made a video on the next iPhone/iPod on Youtube and what features they may include. Overall it is your decision and after watching this video I hop you wait!
