Since this question is pretty much the same one as another on the same page, I'll just copy and paste what I wrote.

"Just get it now. The only thing they will probably upgrade is the battery capacity, and processor speed.

Better camera? Most likely not.

It's most likely always going to be 8, 32, and 64 gigabytes for iPod Touch here on out.

512 Megabytes of RAM? This is a POSSIBILITY. We don't know if iOS 5 is getting a revamp that would need more than a minimum of 256 megabytes of RAM, so it's really a coin toss.

Aluminum back? Probably not looking at how they've had almost the exact same back since the 1st generation.

IPS? No.

GPS? What's the point of a GPS when you need a solid and steady connection (cellular connection), wifi isn't going to cut it.

The reason why most of the features you want will probably be omitted is because Apple has to cut corners SOMEWHERE. If it gets all of those features, it will essentially be an iPhone without the phone, which will effect sales of their flagship product. The iPod Touch is supposed to be "training wheels for the iPhone." It certainly was my training wheel because I owned the iPod Touch first, then got the iPhone.

If you want the iPod Touch to have all of those features, be prepared to pay a chunkload more."

If the rumors are true about the delay, that should make you want to just get it now. You'll then at least be able to enjoy it while you can before college.

I know we are going to get a lot of inquiries about this subject. I implore people to please do a search before you start a thread with this topic. We don't need a new thread for the same subject. I hope the admins will keep an eye out for this.

Thanks.

If your going to be " too busy" in September for an iPod, then don't get an iPod at all. If you can't multitask to inbox and set up an iPod, you're going to flunk outta school

I meant I was going to be too busy doing school work. I appreciate the kind and helpful comments here, but others (such as the above user) need to work on their people skills.

Personally I would wait unless you are in the market to buy a new Mac this summer because Apple runs a promotion where you can buy an iPod touch for $100 off with a purchase of a new Mac if you are a college student.

May I recommend time management audiobook as your first purchase?

I know it sounds silly, but sometimes my family is just so busy we don't have time. As I said before, last time I bought a touch it took me four months to open it.

If you're going to write it in two places, maybe you should check what you're writing first.

The operation of GPS has no relation to a wifi or cellular connection. GPS is a receiver of wireless signals only, via its own antenna. GPS will work perfectly even if you are in the middle of the ocean 1000 miles from the nearest wifi or cellular network.

Assisted GPS (as in the iPhone, etc) is not different. It can use other signals to assist in getting a position more quickly, but it is absolutely 100% not required.

I would and am waiting. Knowing what we do about the A5 and what is looking like a 3D screen being likely for gaming, I see no reason to jump on an older Touch right now. It may not launch in September but I'm pretty sure there will be something new in October or early November at the latest.

ok i may be wrong that ipod touch 5g is not going to be 3d, but i know the fact that when 1 model of any apple product comes out the older versions value decreases, for example i was looking for an ipod touch when ipod touch 4g came along and saw the other being cleared out of stores and at some it was even £75, so if i was you i would wait for the ipod touch 5g.:D anyways not trying to be cheeky or anything brian but an ipod touch in 3d would be awsome!

LOL
Not going to happen. Unless you want half the display resolution and half the battery life, that is.

well the thing is with me that i really like apple products but don't like em in an other sense mainly because i think they should look at what we want' i know the iPod is not going to be 3d, maybe it will never be, we dont know. i have been saving up money and have actually got money for the ipod touch 4g, but i ask myself thequestion '' why should i spend around 200 pounds on something that in two to 4 months is going to be sold at around half the price'' thanks god i bought an xbox instead of an ipod touch

All I'm saying is with the push of the "retina display", you're not going to be seing a 3D apple product anytime soon, unless apple wants to go the glasses route, which I can't see them doing. Glasses free 3D currently works by 2 lcds with a parallax barrier in between. Both lcds render the same image, but the barrier shifts the other to the side a bit, giving us the 3D effect. The only way this would work is if
A. Apple beefed up the GPU a ton, killing the battery life
B. Resolution was cut, as this would take twice the processing power. Just look at the 3DS, the only reason its 3D works is because of the low resolution, and even then, look at its battery life

Like you I am also in the same boat

However improvements can still be made such as camera, compass, design to the Ipod touch 5g so i would wait.

It is May now, i would think you would regret buying one right now when the 5th one comes out. (check out my thread about Itouch 5G features)

As for the lack of time in September, you can JB, customize everything in the weekend, time management is the key to everything.

Just wait. I doubt youd really be forced to wait a couple of months to open an iPod.... thats like saying you cant sleep because college is taking up THAT much time in your life...

Well, Apple took away evrything 16GB for the iPod Touch's, so we can kiss that one goodbye. But here's what i think would be on there:

I just mean in college I assume I'll be so busy that I'll never get a chance to open it, at least until I'm on break. You may find this hard to believe, but when I received my original Ipod Touch in late August, I didn't open it until late December/early January!

I know it sounds silly, but sometimes my family is just so busy we don't have time. As I said before, last time I bought a touch it took me four months to open it.

Dude, Not trying to be rude but......

If you are this busy I have two pieces of advice.
1. Buy it now,
2. You need to learn to relax a a little bit.

Learn to play, playing is learning.

No one should be so busy that they cannot open a box for 4 months. If it takes that long to open the box, you really did not want the purchase anyway. You should save your money.

Sheesh, the people in this thread.

To answer OP's question, if you're not going to wait four months to open the box, get the 4th gen, as the 5th gen iPhone isn't even going to come out until September at the earliest, possibly in the winter, and the ipt5G isn't coming out until several months after that.

It's been a while since I was in college, but I went to a top 10 school, ran track and cross country, and STILL managed to have time to open boxes, work at the gym, go to parties, AND chase tail.

I agree with the above person -- relax a little; have some fun, you'll live longer.

Totally agree with Bigg and a few others here. I can't imagine there would be an iPod Touch 5th Gen this year. The iPhone 5 isn't due out till September. There is no way a Touch is going to get an upgrade before the Phone. The Touch may not even get an upgrade before an iPad 3.

Yeah, iPad is a good point... the iPod isn't going away, but it's no longer a focus for Apple with the phone and tablet being such hot sellers.

I think you should wait until you retire to buy an iPod touch. You're obviously way too busy to open a box and use a small electronic device so probably waiting until you're like 65-70 should give your life enough time to calm down and free up some time. Maybe you and your grandchildren can listen to some hip tunes together.

get one now if you can snag one at a good price. I dont recommend being without such a kick ass device for all those months unless you absolutely plan on doing a lot of gaming and airplay movie watching with your ipod.
the diff with music and internet viewing between the 4g and 5g should be minimal at best.

Buy now, if you think you won't have the time to buy until December. Moreover, we are not expecting much changes with iPod touch 5G if some rumors are to be believed.

Unless the next iPhone goes over 512mb ram then the ipod touch will be staying at 256mb. Apple won't let the iPod be equal to phone in performance.

There's really nothing wrong with the current model. Lack of ram for multitasking as stated above is my only annoyance but actual app loading is always consistently quick. :)

It is better waiting until the 5G comes out and decide if the features are worth getting the latest edition.

Stores in early september will stay have 4G models left over but at a discounted price because of the new editions. If features doesnt fit you, a new 4g may cost less than 200$ 8 GB or less than 270$ 32 GB.
