Yes well im waiting but do you think the ipod 5g will be the next one released or just a 4.something minor upgrade?

If a new product is coming out, wait out your options and get it then. I got mine in Christmas and I wasn't sad. It is a great investment, but you're going to be settled into college so see what you need then.

I'm going to college next week so I feel what you feel. Have fun!

does everyone remember the iPod 4,2 that they found. That means that we will see a new ipod touch.Im not sure if it'll be a minor or major upgrade. But remember the original was iPhone1,1 and then the 3G was iPhone1,2 and it was a major upgrade as i remember.Who knows? Only Steve

To the OP:

You will not be too busy doing school work to use an iPod. All of the classes that an incoming freshmen takes, regardless of major, are stupid easy and are mostly busy work. So much in fact that I often listened to my iPod while "studying" for those classes, and by studying I mean memorizing terms and writing papers about things that are discussed during lecture. I'd say during my freshmen year, the only classes that I couldn't use my iPod while studying were my math classes.

I had so much free time during my freshmen year that I was often bored out of my mind with nothing to do after I was finished with my school work except for to watch TV and play video games until my friends were done with their work. That was when I made the mistake of downloading a 10-day trial of World of Warcraft.

The next revision of the iPhone/iPod Touch will likely be fairly minor and evolutionary.

First year college courses can vary from a repeat of high school to some seriously challenging and downright brutal "weed out" courses. It depends on the major and school. Either way, having an iPod is great, even if just for music while studying, or playing a quick game while taking a study break.

I didn't come here to be ridiculed. All I want to know is advice on whether I should consider buying now or wait.

This is not the Iphone forum. This is the Ipod Touch forum. Therefore, I am talking about Ipod Touch 4G and 5G.

So if it takes you about 4 months to actually open your iPod, pretend you ordered one now, wait a couple months for the new one to come out, then you will be able to open it in 2 months instead of 4!

In all seriousness though if it takes you that long, just wait a little longer.

Gee, gang! We had far more interesting pursuits 1st year of college than playing with an iPod! :)

Just immersing oneself in the college experience was fantastic--no TV, no computers, no alcohol--and we spent lots of our time exploring dorm life, campus activities, studying, learning and reading intellectually exciting material, and getting to know people from around the world, many of whom would become lifelong friends. No IPT needed!

Have you SEEN today's college students?! If I was back in college today, I'd surely want something like an iPod to escape. ;)

I work at a university! They're polite, well groomed, friendly, with great racial and ethnic diversity in friendship.

But an overwhelming majority do walk around with their smartphones and iPod buds. I'll bet, though, that they do all the things I mentioned--and probably with fewer drugs (albeit, some with far more alcohol!).

Wonder how much RAM it will have, my bet is 512MB because the 3rd and 4th gen did have 256MB of RAM, the previous two before that had 128MB, but we'll see :)
