We saw Motley Crue on their "final" tour and Vince sounded horrible on that one. Seeing them again this year with Def Leppard... Never seen DL and figured I should see them before they finally call it quits.

I mean, KISS sounded freaking excellent that last time I saw them for the End of the World Tour. Absolutely killed it. Same with Billy Joel.
Sadly Kiss uses backing tracks. Not sure how much of their show is live.

This is footage of a recent Bon Jovi show in Raleigh, NC. Jon clearly can’t sing anymore, even with the songs tuned down considerably. I think it’s embarrassing and sad that he’s charging decent money for this. But as long as people keep buying tickets I suppose legacy artists will keep doing it. It’s a shame though. You’d think Jon would be embarrassed at how bad he sounds.

Here’s another example. Vince Neil at a 2022 Mötley show. ?
I mean a lot of this younger performers can’t sing either but people she’ll out $$$ to see them too.

Oh my. I hope David has retired.I won't go to these shows any more. I'd be angry if I spent a lot of money to listen to this. I really wanted to go to the recent Genesis tour since it will likely be Phil's last, but after seeing YouTube videos of the shows, I couldn't bring myself to spend the money.

The first comment I saw on YouTube was “I want a refund and I didn’t even go to the show”. ?

Wouldn’t be fair not to throw in a few Axl clunkers. Appetite for Destruction was my absolute favorite album when it came out. Listening to the way they play these songs live now they have no grit or punch. They’re just blah.

I saw a video of a fairly recent ZZ Top show (Before one of them died), and felt the same way. Ouch.

I've given up on Jimmy Buffett shows because he blows song lyrics. Does that make me an AH? It's bad when the people at the show know your songs better than you remember them, and give you dirty looks when you blow them. He doesn't need the money apparently because he's making huge money in so many other ways. The last show, he had a monitor on the floor showing the lyrics. I love Jimmy's music, but it's hard seeing him decline so much.

People were ripping Peter Gabriel at a show I saw them at, it was showing lighting and sound information from what I could see, not showing lyrics as some cruel people were sneering, but even if it was there for 'reinforcement', I'd still rather hear it all live than prerecorded.

How do people stand on backing musicians that the bands sometimes try so hard to keep off stage and out of sight? Green Day had a guitarist partially hiding behind the staging, only visible from certain angles. I'm sure that is likely more common though?

i watched a recent gig from the manic street preachers recently on TV and its clear James cannot sing anymore, at least not to the degree those songs require - age catches up with you, and in the end it can be a sad demise and my god thats what it looked like. My own favourite band New order - Bernard could never sing anyway, still can't, but worse is that he doesnt have the strength in his voice anymore and its obvious, mind you he must be in his 60's now. I dont go to see these kinds of bands live anymore, I prefer to remember them as they were at their peak.

Barney is 66 years old. That, in turn, makes me feel really, really old.

I try not to see legacy bands unless I hadn't seen them already back in the day. The last time I saw New Order was in 2013, and it was probably the best set I'd ever seen them play despite Barney's diminished vocal abilities. They seem to be releasing enough live albums, documentaries, and concert videos nowadays — no need to actually go see them in person!

Well shoot, I didn't know that. Well, to be fair, it doesn't change a lot for me as it worked and worked really well when we saw them.
I don’t know if you know who Eddie Trunk is but he’s a well known rock radio host and has been complaining about rock shows not being live for a while now. He’s gone after Kiss and others.

In the video linked in that article it’s so obvious the band isn’t live. You can tell when the guy steps away from the mike but the vocals keep playing. And listen to the drums vs what the drummer is actually playing. This to me is just as embarrassing. I would never pay money for this.

I wonder if a court case could be made for false advertising - seriously with ticket prices these days and lots of folks wanting to go out and enjoy live music after 2 years of lockdowns this is robbery.
Hard to say. If the ad for the show stated "Joe and the Idiots....live in concert" it is not technically stating that they will sing live, just that they will be there in the flesh. A good lawyer could possibly argue that for the past x number of years, a live in concert appearance was understood by 99.9 % of the population to mean the group would sing live and in 99.9% of instances that is what happened. So a precedent had been set.

The Who did a concert for charity last month at the Royal Albert Hall.
They messed it up a few times but they knew it and they didn't take it too seriously.
I wouldn't expect them to be like they were in the 60s but I'd say they were still pretty good and it's great to still see them. You may well have a totally different response.
But frankly there weren't many if any better than The Who back in the day.

I was fortunate to see The Who in 2010 at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. They did the complete Quadrophenia album. Zak Starkey on drums, Pino Palladino on bass and of course Pete and Roger in front. Pretty damn good show.

My only other time seeing The Who was on their 1982 Farewell Tour (ha ha) in Buffalo. Opening acts were Joe Jackson and The Clash. Those were the days. Hot day, outside in Rich Stadium, years before mobile phones so people actually had to interact with others...

I have heard of Eddie maybe once or twice... I haven't listened to him for awhile, only because of time. But I was watching him on TV for a while and then on KNAC.com.

That video is horrible. Holy smokes.

I am going to see Alice Cooper this weekend... Going to be interesting to see how he and the band perform.

Oh something like this doesn’t bother me at all. McCartney is still out there touring and his voice isn’t in the best of shape but it’s certainly not as bad as Bon Jovi or some others. And at least he’s live. There probably are a few songs he could tune down a half step and they’d still sound great and not be so rough on his voice. Of course nobody expects these guys to sound just like they did in their prime but when you can’t remember words or are outsourcing most of the singing to the audience then it’s time to hang it up. That is if you have any pride in your body of work.

I hate when I see video of live shows and it’s just a sea of people holding their phones in the air but at the same time I’m grateful when some of that video gets up on YouTube. One of my favorite videos is of some guy in Kiss makeup that Dave Grohl sees in the audience and brings up on stage to play with the band. He gets on stage and just shreds on guitar. He’s forever known as ‘Kiss Guy’. ?

Vince may be ok. He quit drinking in the 80's, golfs all the time and seems to have kept in reasonable shape. Please give us your post show opinion.

I've seen New Order a few times over the last several years, usually in Manchester - but i do cringe at the vocals! interestingly I saw a Hooky gig and his singing was much more capable and better than I remember.
