How did we start talking about where demi funds come from?
I commented that this was perhaps a bit harsh and it went from there.

EDIT: ...have to add though, I get a kick seeing all the newbies come in, post alot of crap, get a tar, then consider themselves veterans. Kids.... It becomes even more of a joke when they become demis....

yes, but only for you, since you, since you were the OP. go to thread tools-add poll.
oh kewl, learn something new everyday.:)

Ok vote away.

How about instead of veteran, put the date of joining, kind of like a birthday? Then you can have your MR birthday, and your regular birthday, and your half birthday, and your unbirthday ... you'll be having cake every day at that rate. :D

More to the point, why couldn't we put this kind of info, veteran or whatnot, as a mouse-over or on the click-the-name menu (I know it's already on the profile page). That way, those interested in that kind of info will get it, while people who don't really care don't have to waste bandwidth over it?

I guess someone could just read the profile page, but that wouldn't be any fun, now would it? :)

I believe back in the day join date was listed with post count under the ranking.

even though i've only been here a bit more than 5 months, I voted yes. still, i think that the criteria of a veteran should be 18 months after any gien member's post, not their registration date. they should also be required to have at least 100 posts and a post within the past month. then, they should have the word veteran next to their names in parentheses like a mod does. user ranks would be macrumors regular (veteran), macrumors 6502 (veteran) and so forth. they'd also have access to a private MR old-skool forum.

I don't know about a private forum or even such brash nomenclature, but I don't see anything wrong with some subtle recognition like the greyed user titles I mentioned before. Ideally it'd be so subtle as to not be distracting at all. This place can be quite clique as is. Giving the long term members a private forum could make that worse IMO.

Hi, I'm a LTR,FTCAR (Long Time Reader, First Time Caring About Rankings).

I know you're supposed to read the thread before posting, but after the first four pages I wasn't really hearing anything new.

Questions for all you old codgers: :p How does one achieve "MacRumors Regular" status? What does "6502" mean?

Thanks in advance,
Lowly newbie

User titles from 6502 (reached at 500 posts) and on up refer to processors Apple has used in their machines over the years. There are a couple of processors that are used titles for only a very small window of post counts...these are processors that, for one reason or another, saw very little use in Apple machines before being replaced with the new latest and greatest.

put the month/year of joining 04/02 or 12/04
And don't tell whether it's month/year or year/month. That could lead to lots of fun, even more-so as we approach 2012! :)

yeah, now that i think of it, your idea was probably much better. more private forums wouldn't help either. oh well, it was just an idea:eek:

Especially December 20, 2012. That's the date where I'm curious to see if the Mayans were right...

We could have MacDonalds style stars — one for every year of "service". :p

Seriously though, if something like this was implemented, instead of join date have an easily viewable system like stars or dots or apples or something next to the person's name. It would be easier to read instantly than mentally working out join dates.

Read....

I think that old timers of 5 or more years should be reconigized. Kind of like if get a 5 year pin at work. Adding a private forum for certian users that have reached a membership of several years would not be a bad idea. Many of them have watched this forum grow and expand to the great place we all love today. They know of old members, world events, etc, when many newer members were only 8 years old. Giving them some reconigtion and a place to talk of old times is a great idea.

We change a members title because they contribute. We should also do something special for our old timers. Without them there probably would not be a macrumors or it definitaly would not be what it is today. They stuck around and are the spirit of the beginning and the reason many people joined. Which is to be apart of this community of friends who share a common interest. Adding a title, or changing thier name to a gold colored font, etc. isn't asking to much. You have your old sea dogs and your young bucks. And a few old guys would like some gental nods on occasion out of respect.

Mabey the gods should movie this to a private forum so we can make a more formal vote.

Ah, so it's your fault then? :p

I would agree with this - I believe someone suggested using a combination of join date, number of posts, and last posting date, which seems fair enough. Although I suppose join date is probably just as easy - if you don't post much, or haven't posted recently, no one will see the change in title/appearance.
