We're forgetting another side of this issue.

Should there be a maximum allowed length of membership?

Should forum members who reach that maximum be given a mousepad with a picture of a gold watch on it, a cyberspace retirement party, and be expected to live on their MacRumors e-pension without having to post anymore?

Well I hope not otherwise we would be on social security soon.

So that's where our contributions go...

Yeah...we've got what, 800 regular members for every Demi? The system is broken...I think we need to reform the system so that the regulars can put some of their own money into the system. katie ta achoo can oversee the investment plans.

I kind of think that anybody who has made 500 posts A) has too much time on their hands and B) has probably helped out a number of people along the way.

For goodness sakes, it's only an avatar. What kind of crumudgeon would want to take that away from somebody?

If we aren't careful, the commoners just may revolt and behead those of us who do have avatars. Vive la revolution!

Everyone should be allowed to have a avatar but then again the 500 post thing does prevent noobs from getting avatars and wasting server space so keep the 500 post.

It's not the save space. It's to reward people people has been a contributor to the community.

AW MAN!
I suppose I'm one of the people you're talking about.
I joined on July 29th of this year and am less than 40 post away from 500.
The reason why it's "not as big of an achievement" is because people are getting addicted to this site, like me.
I've been wanting to get the 500 post mark for awhile.
Please don't raise it.

What about the people who have 500 post to the number before you were thinking of raising it to?
Will their avatars just go poof?

Stop playing WOW, you will be surprised that the sky is still blue, and that electrons can power something besides a toon.

no! I'm struggling to make 100 posts, let alone 500! Not everyone is a forum dweller.

...so its not really as big a milestone as it once was...since its getting harder to see who has been here 6 months from 5 years....I would consider veterans would have at least 2000-2500 posts...

And...(drum roll here)...in five years 2000-2500 posts will not be as big milestone as it once was.

According to your logic the bar should be continually raised so you can identify the original members. For why? Do you think newer members care about that or do they care more about a quality forum?

The MR site is growing! I would think you would be happy that it is not only successful but has a great reputation, unlike Dikk or Doog or whatever that site is that rates posts on wittiness and political slant rather than intellectual content.
:D

Who dug this thread out of the gutter.:p I forgot all about it. Probably with good reason.:D

What was the question? I forgot.

Oh yeah, raise the 500 limit to 5000, make newbies post in white text and don't tell them how to do it, and pick one Regular poster per week to be fed to the alligators.

Just one more thing,(to the tune of the Ramones' Pinhead)

I don't wanna have an 8 bit title,
I don't wanna be a G2 either,
Pee pee cee was just a dead end, dead end
Intel eights are just a few too many...

Gabba gabba hey!
