Fit the screen to the edges and make the screen itself clickable, similar to how the click works on the new trackpads.

Heii NO!!! Blackberry almost committed suicide after they tried that crap. That was the most annoying feature ever.

I want 3.8 to 4". 4" would be great. I could deal with 4.2", but I really don't want it any larger than that.

It could stand to be a little larger, sure. For those of us without perfect eyesight it would be really nice not to have to squint at our phones or dig through a purse for glasses when trying to read directions.

Apple shouldn't fall into the trap of competing on screen size, so they should definitely steer clear of the 4.5"+ trend. I don't believe they'd add a new resolution for developers to worry about so I suspect they'd wind up at 4" (285dpi) or less to keep it "retina class."

There is a reason:

I think it could stand to increase a few tenths of an inch if the device doesn't get any/much larger... but the phones that are coming out with specs of 4.5" screens are a bit on the ridiculous side imo. I have smallish hands and if I'm holding my phone with 1 hand, my thumb can just barely cover the screen comfortably.

I reckon they should make it larger at the expense of the bezel, but not making the body of the phone physically bigger.

Edge to edge screen with same form factor would be amazing.

Dump the home button and replace it with a four finger pinch gesture similar to OSX trackpad to show launch pad.

I agree. They have enough room to make it it 4" and not make the phone biggger. I like the size, but would like a larger screen

i think dumping the home button would be a huge mistake. the 1 button phone is just so natural, so functional, and now... people are so used to it.

dumping it could cause people to really squawk, kind of like every time facebook makes a change to profile layouts. facebook's changes are almost always big steps forward and still get negative backlash until people get used to it. if you dump the home button, you better be damn sure whatever you are replacing it with is a big step forward... and i don't think that OSX style trackpad would qualify.

3.7" or 4" with 1024 x 768 resolution

thats a weird resolution on a phone, i know you think iPad resolution here, but still, the iPad has a 4:3 display. the iPhones doest not

also, what is up with smallish hand people.

i agree 4.5++ is to big, but exactly 4" with smaller bezel around would have pretty much the same dimensions as the current model

I don't think its necessary to eliminate the home button, as there is still plenty of room to make the screen larger. The home button could be pulled down to the bottom of the device, and the speaker/camera stuff pulled right to the top. This leaves plenty of room for a bigger screen, as shown in this mockup I did in 30 seconds:

Looks great. I have no desire for an externally larger phone than the current size.

It should stop at 4.3 if it does get bigger in future. Handling the S2 and infuse, the S2 is fine while the infuse is painful to hold and work with.

More than 4.3 is pushing it too far. Might as well make a 5-7 inch iPad instead.

Increasing the screen size without changing resolution is downgrading since it reduces the pixel density. Apple will NEVER do that. Moreover anything more than 3.5" is huge, look at those Android phones, they are barely portable.

Ive heard over and over again why it is better to retain 3.5 inch screen and have 326 dpi instead of 4 inch screen with 288 dpi. I disagree with this, and would like to explain to you why, by comparing an iPhone screen to a partially covered iPad screen.

Our iPad screen has 768 pixels in 148 mm on the short side, and 1024 pixels over 197 mm on the long side. To make our iPhone 4 (which has 640 pixels on the short side and 960 pixels on the long side) comparable to iPad in total pixel count, I'm going to ask you to cover up 25 mm on the short side and 12 mm on the long side

Now, you tell tell me which screen you would prefer to use? The uncovered portion of the iPad screen having 960x640 pixels left, or the iPhone screen which also has 960x640 pixels count?

To me, it's a no brainer, iPad screen is better. Tying is easier, buttons are easier to press, pictures are more fun to look at, and text are so much easier to read, despite the fact that I can see the dots.

The "it's becoming a brick" excuse is laughable. Just look at how pocketable SGS2 is. As long as its thin and light, 4 inch phone is going to be smaller than SGS2, which already is highly pocketable.
