You do know 5 comes after 4 right? Just checkin.
It'll be the iphone 5 next.
.....Do I really need to explain this to you![]()
Ive heard over and over again why it is better to retain 3.5 inch screen and have 326 dpi instead of 4 inch screen with 288 dpi. I disagree with this, and would like to explain to you why, by comparing an iPhone screen to a partially covered iPad screen.
Our iPad screen has 768 pixels in 148 mm on the short side, and 1024 pixels over 197 mm on the long side. To make our iPhone 4 (which has 640 pixels on the short side and 960 pixels on the long side) comparable to iPad in total pixel count, I'm going to ask you to cover up 25 mm on the short side and 12 mm on the long side
Now, you tell tell me which screen you would prefer to use? The uncovered portion of the iPad screen having 960x640 pixels left, or the iPhone screen which also has 960x640 pixels count?
To me, it's a no brainer, iPad screen is better. Tying is easier, buttons are easier to press, pictures are more fun to look at, and text are so much easier to read, despite the fact that I can see the dots.
The "it's becoming a brick" excuse is laughable. Just look at how pocketable SGS2 is. As long as its thin and light, 4 inch phone is going to be smaller than SGS2, which already is highly pocketable.
Technically, its downgrading. Steve will have thought about iPhone 5, 5S, 6, etc and if they were to have bigger screens, he'd have done it in the iPhone 4 itself. That way they don't have to "downgrade" the screen in future revisions.
4.0"+ screen is more of tablet size than a smartphone, the experience would be intermediate of a phone and tablet. Instead you can get a tablet with 10" screen which offers full tablet experience. It really doesn't make sense to have something in between a smartphone and tablet.
No please spare us all the iPhone 5/6 debate.
You must've slept through 2008, when Apple skipped iPhone 2.
Bigger provided the dimensions of the handset remain the same...
Wanting a screen so big that it results in a bigger device is a bit like saying you want your household & car keys to be bigger. Annoying!
What?! It's not like that at all. Having a bigger key serves no function, but a bigger screen does. That's a terrible analogy.
I said "a bit like". This is true. It's a highly portable device that many (most?) people take everywhere just like their keys.
Yes, there is a huge benefit to having a larger screen. But there is a significant tradeoff. Too much of a tradeoff.
I like it just the way it is. Any bigger would be too big.
Count on the screen size changing in iPhone 5, not only because... well just because, but odds are that iPhone 5 will have a 720p screen.
