IMO, the screen size is the single biggest flaw in the 4s

I think this model will be better for you:

Completely agree. The present screen size is not really useable in some situations, although in many applications it is okay. It is next to useless reading my eBooks using the iBook application. On many webpages it is also a real pain in the ass, especially when Safari does not do text wrap forcing me to have to keep panning the webpage left and right in landscape to read the text.

People seem to think that we're asking it just for fun, not realizing it it is a serious usability issue.

The worst idiots around are those who says go use an iPad. It's like asking a person to buy an aircraft when he wants a faster car.

Why are you trying to read books on a phone? Thats what tablets & computers are for.

No idea... How can you read a conventional novel on a phone?

You can't, the screen is too small... that's kinda what his point was.

Anyway, even just web browsing suffers from this need to flick back and forth across the page. The least they could do is wrap text, but a bigger screen would be preferable in my opinion.

The iPhone 4 S⃣ was just released 5 days ago, aren't we getting ahead of ourselves about the next iPhone?
No we're not. Apple has us conditioned to be eager for their next model. They expect us to be frequent buyers.

It's a business model that works. Now is no time to question it. Just go with the flow and keep buying. I like these record setting numbers. It drives my stock up very nicely.

As far as a larger display? I used to want one. But since it's taking so long, I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever happen. If not, that's OK too since many iPhone users seem to fear change.

I don't really need it since my Androids all have gorgeous widescreen displays. Now that I've relegated my iPhone to a secondary device, I don't need a large display. I'm enjoying such grow in my decades old Apple Stock, the rest is minutia.

Thanks Apple :)

No, if anything I think they should keep the screen the current size it is and simply shrink the border at the top and bottom.

So if u want to on the go.... If u want a book get a kindle. Don't merge the two devices, maybe apple will with a 7in iPad?

Why have 2 devices when I could have one? I'm not saying eliminate the 3.5" model, just offer a bigger one alongside it, like they do with MacBooks, iMacs, Cinema Displays. People can benefit greatly from a bigger screen.

I'm not against a bigger screen. A bigger screen would be great if done right, I just don't understand how you can read a novel on a phone... As for on a train/bus, I'd take my real book any day ;)

Each to their own though.

It tickles me that he same people who didn't want to carry a brick around prefers much much bigger bricks. A 7 inch iPad is far too big to fit into the pocket. Is this so hard to understand? And is it hat hard to nderstand that we want only one device, not two?

Sigh.. Only Android and WP7 phone designers are smart enough in this regards. iPhone designers will always be dumb and stubborn in this regards.

ios is still pretty new to me and i'm still getting used to the back button usually being in the upper left corner. wouldn't this be an issue for many people holding the phone in one hand? it really couldn't be any farther from the base of your right thumb... or left if that is how you do.

personally i struggle with big android phones. i have one similar in size to the iphone, but things feel much more roomy already with ios.

I'd take a real book too, but that's not the point. A larger screen would make a somewhat uncomfortable process more comfortable.

It's not just eBook. Spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentation slides, web pages, RSS feeds. All these applications are not easy to use on the tiny 3.5 inch screen. I suppose you would also read the real newspaper rather than reading news off the webpages?

Anyway, there are lots of books that I read which are available only in soft copy. One series of books that I read cost a few hundred dollars and has to be imported in. I can get them downloaded free from the web. So, what do you say to that?

Depends on who you're talking to. A larger screen would make a comfortable process uncomfortable for many with thumbs that aren't very long.

Why? Can you seriously sit down and comfortably read a novel on your iPhone for an extended period of time, even if the screen was slightly bigger?

Surprise, surprise. That additional screen size does make the difference between being unusable and more useable.

The two options don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Nah. thumb length is never a real issue.

On Safari, even on a 5 inch screen, your thumb rarely need to go to the very top part of the screen except to touch the taskbar. When composing a text message, all you touch is around the bottom part of the screen using the keyboard even on a 6 inch screen device. There is absolutely no issue of feeling uncomfortable here IMO.

We're only talking about 4 inch screen, which is stil very small. It's ridiculous to call that a brick or a tablet. My son a small size early teen uses the Samsung Galxy s one handedly without any problem. The screen size is one of the things he likes most about it compared to his iPod touch.

The best eBook reader is the one that you have with you, not the one that you left on your couch. You can only have a phone in your pocket, you can't have your tablet with you outside the house.

I'm just saying this is a phone, your not going to be able to write or read a novel on it without some compromise. Otherwise android or iPad u go lol.
