I was highly considering the 14 Pro Max because I still have the 7+ which works just fine. I might wait another year. I know, it's crazy holding for that long but I'm glad I did. I truly believe you should hold on to your devices as long as you can if they address the needs you have. Otherwise.... waste IMO.

Apparently there are a lot of people that think it’s worth upgrading since ship dates are already pushed till almost November for the couple models I looked at and there were no pickups available near me.

But will be interested to see new features since I will probably upgrade next year too.

This is another evidence that these days Samsung is the innovator in mobile phone (hardware), and Apple the copycat. The reason Samsung owns the patents for periscope camera is because they were the innovator there. I'm sure that when Apple wants to make a foldable phone, they run into the same problem.

That's what happens when you drop the ball and let others drive innovation.

Why is it crazy to use a device for that long?

I’m the type that never shops based on rumors. I buy what I want/need, now. In our specific case, we are upgrading from the iPhone 8 Plus. I couldn’t really care less about next years iPhone. The same thing will apply in about 3-4 years from now.
Hey - Which one did you order? I am upgrading from 7 plus and was super tempted for the 48mpx camera ..but still debate.. Thanks

I think the updates will focus more on software and not on hardware (if USB -C ever comes)

Nothing in the list of five potential features interests me.

Regarding the potential 10 - 100x telephoto lens... No. I don't use telephoto lenses on my "real" cameras. And have no need for one beyond the 2X on my current iPhone 12 camera.

A bit wider than 0.5X could be kind of interesting in some situations. But not many.

I just ordered a 14 Pro, I have a 13 Pro at the moment, a waste of money? Yes, of course it is but I can afford it and if the iPhone 15 is that "wow" worthy, I will do the same again. One doesn't know how long one is going to be on this earth and if we are frightened to buy now because there may be a "killer" upgrade next time, we will wait forever.

No point calling me a fool for upgrading a year old phone. I already know it.

Recently got myself the 13 Pro, and honestly, I don't see how it's much different from other iPhones. Upgraded from an XR and the experience is the same. NOT saying that there's no upgrade, but goes to show how seamless upgrades are from one device to the next in the Apple ecosphere. Super smooth.

I'll likely upgrade again to the 15 Pro next year, unless I win the lottery first.

You had me at "I can afford it". Must be nice. 🤣

If they're transitioning to USB-C, it really makes no sense to have a year or two where one iPhone model has USB-C and the other doesn't. It would just confuse people, and it's terrible as a "Pro" differentiator.
I agree. Once the USB-C law comes into effect wouldn't they then have to discontinue the 15 entirely if it had Lightning?

If anything it'll be Thunderbolt on the Pros and standard USB-C for the regular models. Even the base iPad is supposed to get USB-C next month so it's not really a Pro thing anymore.
