After a year of everyday use my Sbti is still pretty much immaculate. Previous AW was the SS and after a week or so it had plenty of scratches. You have to be accepting that it’s inevitable with SS watches. Every sS Rolex, Omega and Panerai costing many multiples of an AW that I used to own were visibly scratched…..but when it was time to trade up you just polish them out and voilà good as new…or close to it.
My old AW cleaned up nicely when I decided to sell it and get the SBTi6. But I must say if you are anal about scratches then get the SBTI.
I do have a SBTi7 on order just because I love the all black look integration with the screen.

From what I’ve read, stainless steel is harder. Titanium just has a higher strength to weight ratio. There are lots of variations of titanium and steel though. I’ve seen numerous used titanium models with scratches. I know you can polish them, but it would give me pause because of the coating Apple puts on them.

I do like the look of the titanium though. It was initially my first choice.

I had a titanium Seiko Watch years ago, and I personally preferred the weight of my steel watches. The titanium on that also scratched a decent amount over time. I think titanium might be better in a smart watch versus a traditional watch though (in my opinion).
Interesting you say that. Why do you say Ti would be batter on a smart watch? Is it because of the weight and ability to feel haptics?

I think the sbTi Watch will be the most durable along with the Hermes sb (right?) personally I‘m fine with scratches. I’ve had them on my nicer watches like my Cartier and rolex, and don’t care as long as it’s not deep. However I love the look of the natu4al titanium, I just hope it doesn’t get banged up!

I guess I’m just thinking because a smart watch is more about function in some ways. For example, I used to wear my mechanical watches a bit looser than my Apple Watch. Now that I need to feel haptics and also have contact with the HR sensor, I tend to wear bands that fit more snug.

It’s not bad on the steel, but the lower density of titanium allows haptic vibration to be stronger.

Actually I had titanium on a 47mm Panerai and it was a huge different in weight compared to my SS.
On Apple Watches I can’t detect on my wrist a difference. I barely can detect it holding them one in each hand. It’s not a real life deciding factor as it was with the behemoth Panerais.
The natural titanium Panerais didn’t show scratches as bad as the SS but they did scratch.
As a side note…..I actually preferred the Stainless steel Panerais and Omegas to the titaniums because they felt so solid …….you knew you were wearing the beast that it was.

Which Panerai? Their watches are beautiful. I always thought Rolex was the best watch you could buy for anything $5k and over but these watches are really beautiful

Folks with natural Ti, how is it holding up with scratches and nicks? Anybody switch from natural to SBTi? Thanks!
Just like silver SS without DLC I think natural Ti is susceptible to scratches. But just like the silver SS it seems they can be removed:
I am not to worried though. I have an old natural titanium normal watch and can't see any scratches.

If I would get Titanium I’d go Natural Ti. Having owned SBTi, it just didn’t excite me and I ended up selling it to switch back to SBSS. I’m not saying it’s not a great finish and we all have preferences of course! I’ve tried on the Natural Ti and it is definitely a very nice finish. I’m just more of a darker watch guy so went with Graphite but Natural Ti would be my second choice for sure!
I do like the space black titanium, but I would all the stainless steel apple watch look better than both the titanium ones, they look more premium to me.

41mm S7 and yes that is the sport band exclusive with the exclusive face. Switched out from the leather band (more of daily driver) because I went for a workout walk vs a commuter walk today.

And also because, Halloween.
Ha- I have been wearing my Hermes orange band and the same watch face the last few days. It just looks so good!!!

I’m exchanging my Titanium and going back to SS. While I enjoy the feel and look of the Titanium I’m not convinced by the coating at all. It is indeed better at hiding scratches as you can see in my 1st photo not even visible then you zoom in with good light and can see them; all I can think off was it was brushing against my shirt or coat..

Are the scratches from everyday things like wearing a shirt (also why do shirts scratch the Watch??) or from nicks and bumps?

No nicks and bumps at all. I’m only assuming it’s clothing but I could be wrong. The zoom I used is 3x; I was basically looking for it 😂 in all honesty you will be unable to see anything by looking or glancing at it. It still bothered me though as with the SS I eventually see scratches but that’s with intensive use + bumps etc..

It would bother me if I got a watch with any bumps/scratches new, but if I got it pristine new and it happens with use, I’m not so concerned, as over time things just gets used.

With my old ss4 it was more about upgrading to a new version then the overall look… besides the band which was getting really worn out, the watch face piece was still a-ok.
