The only thing Charlie has claimed (without being provoked) is to be buying a 30" display or two. Stop crying and hate-ing about someone doing whatever-the-heck they want to do.

I work hard, sweat and get dirty at my dangerous job for only fair pay. My goal is to be a big giver and buy anything I want, debt free. I'm pretty much there. Sometimes I purchase the top-of-the-line and some things I have two of. Neither am I ashamed for it.
:):):):p

Just got delivered, I finish work in an hour and a half, one hour to get home, then pics'll come in an hour after that, so 3 and a half hours guys :)

Also thanks for the comments.

That sounds pretty interesting about the half life dev. I by no means am saying I am a genius kid who is better than everybody, there are MANY people better than me.

Thanks! :)

When the next one comes in 2 weeks I'll have some more setup shots! :)
You better add some smilies before they eat you alive.

I looked at the sites…

And so far you haven't really shown off the monitor yet. Want to the see the set up!

Most of you in this thread make me a little sick.

A young kid comes to the forums to make a post he thought we'd care about. He was right, because all of you here clicked on the thread based on the title "Showing off new monitor".

But all most of you can do is attack him on every foreseeable level!

Seriously, I'm trying to envision a large room with all of us in it, and a 14 y.o. walking in wanting to show us something he bought with the money he earned. Now I'm seeing you all, like a pack of wolves, jump on him questioning everything from the validity of his job, to his artwork, his skills, and his morals. A bunch of Adults (mostly) attacking a 14 y.o. I mean, where do you get off on that?

I mean, geewiz guys

Anywho, rant over.

I'm currently 23 and developing software at a company as an intern. It drives me fracking crazy that I only have 1 20" monitor this year, when I've had two in the past. Everyone here has at LEAST two 20" monitors, and a number of people have three 20" monitors. Do any of us need them? Of course not, we don't even need monitors, we can fracking write it all out with pen and pencil  :D

And as for if doing work in perl, python, and other related languages is really "software development" if it relates to the web, let's go ahead and hold that argument. The guys writing Assembler code win that one every time.

And we just want to make sure the guy is doing something sensible; a lot of people buy Apple RAM, Apple HDDs, etc and we are here to make sure they don't! ;) We look out for one another.

Yes some people are hostile for whatever reason.

PS

Charlie, good job man :)
I hope to God my own son one day is half that bright and out making money with that kind of passion.
I tried many job ventures as a kid to pay for my hobbies, most of them centered around photography. All of them failed, sadly.
Now I have a really good paying internship and use that to pay for the hobbies I enjoy, like Photography. And before anyone asks, no I don't need a canon 20D to take pictures, but I got one anyway

Can't wait to see the setup!

~Tyler

@Earandil: Thankyou, and I'm sad that your photography didn't work out, it's a shame, the one thing I love is photography, I'm just not very good at it.

Good luck with your software company, if you're in need of an extra monitor, the 22" is my parents, but pm me about the 19" and you can have it :)

@inklwyourider: It's my parents :p

@alphaod: I understand your trying to help me :)

Charliekirk,

Good luck with monitors, the job, and your new setup! This thread got a little crazy, so I'm out. I would like to apologize for any hurtful words.

Just don't turn what you love into a "job." It won't be as fun! ;)

Have fun!

Dont't leave yet, I just unboxed it and am upping the video now.
I cba to edit it so theres a slight intermission. For like half a minute.

Hehe. You got it!

Just kidding.

Just upping to youtube now, I also have an iPod touch and the Mac Pro unboxing on my channel youtube.com/charliekirkfilm

let me ask what the criticism is REALLY about.

Is it that he's buying 2 x 30 inch screens?

is it that he's running a an 8 core mac pro?

is it that he's 14?

that he claims he's a developer?

I'll admit to walk around and telling everyone that you are a developer at 14 is presumptuous. You're not the first 14 year old kid to learn how to design websites, take pictures, or just be a code monkey. I had my first paying design gig when I was 15 --- I went to elementary school with a kid that at 13 was on the development team for Half Life -- and I don't mean a tester -- I mean code monkey extraordinaire -- he was brilliant --- and even he was more humble.

Whether or not you do jobs that let you afford the toys is really irrelevant. For all I care you're wealthy and spending the money isn't a big deal since you have access to plenty more -- maybe you'll install a mac mini in your car when you get your license just cause you can -- i don't know.

will your work flow REALLY improve that much because you have two 30 inch screens versus the 22 and 19 inch screens? I doubt it. Will you feel like a million bucks sitting down in front of your rig? I would be surprised if you said no.

At the end of it all. I'm on your side. Enjoy your new toys. If having this is what the key to making you happy right now then you do it.

To those that seem to want to rain on your parade I ask. Are you suffering from some "mommy and daddy didn't love me enough to buy me all the toys I wanted" issues?

Do you carry a chip on your shoulder because you don't live a life that would allow you to blow money like this?

To the "minimalists" are you using that as an excuse because you really can't afford the things you want so you simply reject them? I don't actually care about your answer because it doesn't matter

If this kid wants to show off his new toys -- let him -- who's he hurting?

Well said, the haters in this thread are just sad.

I forgot how young 14 looked (and i'm only 9 or 10 years older depending on when your birthday is)

Anyway ... Look at the size of those things

I want two so bad now

Wow, that is pretty sweet! I don't care what anyone here says, that things is sweet! If I had the money (and was allowed) I would get one. Nice buy
