Bah, I'm jealous. I have the knowledge for web design and coding (4th year Computer Science student -- and trust me, college does teach you quite a few things about the inner-workings), but I have no idea how to get clients or a job. :p

My advice: Buy all the stuff you can while you don't have a mortgage or rent! Hell, screw what these people are saying . . buy a 3rd 30"!

14? You sure you meant to have a 1 there? Just giving you a hard time, but damn. I've got a 12 year old brother who looks like he could be your dad.

But that's besides the fact. Congratulations on the enormity of your success.

hmmm.., Im almsot ashamed of posting in this thread since its got so weird.

Anyway congratulations!

I really wish it was me having 2x30" monitors and being able to afford another one, so now Im just trying to figure out something i have that you dont...

edit: A dog maybe?

And just a question; what made you choose the Dell over the Samsung?

I Have to say, you look about 12, im just 15, and i mean you look a couple years younger than me.

I Hope you worked out what the Dock Adaptor and Stand for the IPT are! :p Also, kick ass screen, my Tv is 32", i used that for a while as a PC Monitor, you get used to the size real quick, but i only had 1366 x 768.

I look young for my age. :p

I chose the Dell, as before the company I worked for moved offices, we were in a stock broker's office, and they all had different 30" screens, so I was able to check them all out, and pick my favorite. :) It ended up ACD vs Dell, but I knew ACDs were just going to be updated, making me sad :p

Yes the IPT's pieces of plastic were weird, I had to google it at first.

Yep, it needs a friend. The other guy who I offered the 19inch for free didn;t get back to me, so I'll do a giveaway on youtube.

Most of you in this thread make me a little sick.

A young kid comes to the forums to make a post he thought we'd care about. He was right, because all of you here clicked on the thread based on the title "Showing off new monitor".

But all most of you can do is attack him on every foreseeable level!

Seriously, I'm trying to envision a large room with all of us in it, and a 14 y.o. walking in wanting to show us something he bought with the money he earned. Now I'm seeing you all, like a pack of wolves, jump on him questioning everything from the validity of his job, to his artwork, his skills, and his morals. A bunch of Adults (mostly) attacking a 14 y.o. I mean, where do you get off on that?

I mean, geewiz guys

Anywho, rant over.

I'm currently 23 and developing software at a company as an intern. It drives me fracking crazy that I only have 1 20" monitor this year, when I've had two in the past. Everyone here has at LEAST two 20" monitors, and a number of people have three 20" monitors. Do any of us need them? Of course not, we don't even need monitors, we can fracking write it all out with pen and pencil  :D

And as for if doing work in perl, python, and other related languages is really "software development" if it relates to the web, let's go ahead and hold that argument. The guys writing Assembler code win that one every time.

Earendi, I couldn't have typed that better myself...

My brother is 14 and if he had the money, he would get the same setup because he could use it.

Glad to see you aren't going to collage charlie, it only ruins people.

If my 14 year old ordered 2 of 'em, I'd probably ship him off to boarding school so he could learn some values.

Values like what? Shifting responsibility?

I think it's fine that he has two 30" monitors. I want two of them myself, but it would stuff my finances for a while. I'd rather have the money for other things right now.

Essentially, lots of people here are jealous I guess. He doesn't need two of them - he needs a computer, that's it. A powerbook could do it. But, it's easier for him on two displays and if he can afford that and it's his money, then I say go for it.

Charlie, go to school if for no other reason than it will be the best time of your life, which is worth far more than whatever it costs you monetarily; seriously.

Many, many hot women at university too. You'll start to appreciate that soon :)

Wait till you start driving, and you look at the price on the gas pump for the first time.

Try it in England. 1 litre (4.5 gallons) is now at about £1.20 in many places and has been even higher. That's $2.40 per litre, which is $10 per gallon. I guess that's more than the USA?

Thanks!

It's up :)

Congratulations man.

I'd forgotten that you'd said you were English back in the beginning of this thread somewhere. Where are your parents from?

Consider university in the UK. Really. I have some developer friends that you could always contact if you wanted information on the degrees from a first hand source. PM me if you do. :)

My mom is from England and my Dad is a yank :p

Values? If my son said that to me, I'd tell him he has green eyes.

Heh, about uni. I hadn't thought about university in England. We'll see how America goes. Luckily my entire family has either a visa/dual passport either way, so we can pick up anytime. :)

PM'd ;)

Congratulations on your new monitor m8.

DUDE!!!! Didn't your mother teach you that when cutting to cut AWAY from yourself?????

I am 36 and wish I could afford a 30" monitor and a Mac Pro to go with it. lol

Very nice! Congrats on your success man. I was just checking out your unboxing video of the iPod Touch and the part where you say "It feels... Expensive" made me laugh. Not sure if that was intended, but it sure was funny.

Great setup man! I pretty much have the same setup (in my sig), but with a 30" ACD instead. I was planning to get a 24" display, so it was definitely a bonus. I don't think there is any way in heck I am looking to get another one though as I have so much screen real estate it's unbelievable.

The only thing is now new ACD's will come out with iSight HD's and maybe a card reader. Damn you Apple!

Edit: And when you open up the box and see a 30" display, it boggles the mind just how big it is, doesn't it?

Thanks!

I forgot to cut away from my self :p

It definitely does boggle your mind, I had to sit in the trunk driving it back from my dads work as it took up all the backseats. :)

The iPod touch does feel kinda expensive :p Tbh, I'm thinking of selling it.. I don't exactly use it, only for maybe the first week.

I tried to trade the monitor +200$ for an acd, with no luck on craigslist, if anyone in chicago wants to search for my CL listing.

Thanks
