Then they need a small army of programmers, developers who write code. These people are good at that but the WORSE people to do tests and quality control. The coders/programers finished their work on ISO7 months ago and have been working on the next release for months.

If you work in software development you must not work in a large shop. Testers and QA are not usually the "WORSE" programmers. In a pro shop the testing and QA process is completely separate and testers are just that -testers- they don't even need to be able to write a line of code. But they must be meticulous, heavily detailed people.

Testers have a completely different mindset from a dev. In my 30 years of experience a really good dev makes a really bad tester and vice-versa. In the projects I managed I would never have had any of my devs do formal testing. And frankly, a good outcome on a project depends as heavily on good testers as on good devs. In reality, both rely on good use case writing by the business analyst. A well-put together piece of software needs all three working together as a team.

If iOS 8 drops in July (like I see some people here are predicting) that would be interesting but I don't see that happening because if Apple drops their 8th installment that means a new phone would be coming too. A new flagship phone in less than a year doesn't seem likely...

Disagree, I think it's more likely than not for a new flagship phone in less than a year. The stock is down over 10% that's 50 Billion dollars in market cap since the underwhelming news of 5C and 5S. Investors and public want a bigger battery and screen size and Apple will get report after report of losing market share from now until when they give the public what they want. Apple is first and foremost a company where investors want to make money. The pressure to play catch up will be intense and Apple will release it as soon as they have a great product but not before. In a lot of peoples minds that means around July.

It kills me when non-software people start guessing about things.

iOS 7.0 had a release date targeted. If there is some feature that cannot be completed, it is left out of 7.0, but put into 7.0.1 or 7.0.2, depending on what the estimate for length of time it would take to complete that code.

Last minute bug fixes are also put into those releases as well.

When I'm working on a software project for version 7, for example, version 7.1 and version 8 are already being designed and coded. It's a fact of life for software developers.

Except with Apple's new philosophy, they wouldn't put any feature in 7.x or 7.x.x releases. They save that for the x releases. Your point still stands though.

In New Zealand, it would be Tuesday for us while it's Wednesday the 18th for them.

iOS 8 will be all black-and-white!

After Sir Jonny Ive realized that shadows, bevels and skeuomorphic elements are not in line with the new ideology of FLAT, he came to the conclusion that color is not needed either to reach his minimalist nirvana :D

BTW, the best icons I have seen so far are still the ones from this guy:

That iPhone 6 idea looks amazing.

iOS 7 on th iPad is terrible

Lag lag lag lag
Wasted space

I'm using an iPad 4, ZERO excuse for this being so poorly optimized

In my iPad 3 it's sloooooooow
Apple release Wednesday a different release of GM or 7.01, if no release, the upgrade of millions of iPad it's a big disaster.

Is there still no (legitimate, and relatively straightforward) way to install older versions of iOS? I'm very reluctant to "upgrade" my iPhone 4 to iOS 7 simply because I am under the impression that it'll be very very hard to go back to a previous one if I'm not happy with it.

On normal computers, such a downgrade is trivial, so I find it ridiculous that they control iOS so severely.

maybe iOS 7.0.1 is being released on wednesday instead of 7.0 hence why we are seeing a lot of logs coming out of apple using this and they are just starting to test 7.0.2 to include bugs that where not fixed in the release of iOS 7.0.1? wishfull thinking i know. probably the GM we have is what we are getting.

fair enough...

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification, didn't mean to "bug" ya. ;)

I can tell you, it's pretty clean, and in my opinion, gorgeous. The transitions between screens, the app switcher, all of it. This is a huge departure from iOS 6, but a great leap for iOS. You'll enjoy it.

Sweet, thanks for the insight/ But I'm still admittedly reluctant to upgrade upon the initial release, paint me overly cautious.

Man, are you gonna eat those words

Of course iOS 8 is being worked on. I'm sure they have plans for the next several versions. The internal road maps on these products surely stretch out at least 5 years ahead of time.

Yup. It's along the same lines as everything else that IS and ever WAS in the last 100 years or so.

It's called "planned obsolescence" and it's one reason humanity will probably never move on up the ladder, if you know what I'm getting at...

This may be the first time I have ever heard "flat" and "Katy Perry" in the same sentence.

Hahaha. Not in the circles I run in.

She may be all "party in the front", but she's got absolutely zero "business in the back". :p

gaudy: flashy, excessive, noisy, ostentatious

iOS7: flat, simple, minimalistic

iOS 7 is far from gaudy. Gaudy does not simply mean "it's ugly to me".

And previous versions of iOS look more "candy like" than iOS 7. Everything had a "shine" on it like a piece of hard candy.

iOS7: flat, cartoony, anime--Teen Titans Go comes to mind.

You're right. Gaudy does not simply mean "it's ugly to me". But it does mean "garish, lurid, loud, overbright, tasteless"....

I'll take "shiny and realistic" over "loud and cartoony" any day.

I never thought I'd say this, but Steve had better taste than this. I know, he had his misses (flower-power iMac, etc.) but he got better and better as he went along. iOS 7 is Jony Ive unrestrained...It is just too trendy for my taste. I mean, this is the icons. They are the opposite of classy. They fit the 5c perfectly. But the 5s? Hell no.

This is a very feminine color scheme; neutrality is out the window...

I mean, I'm a guy. I don't ever want to have "magenta-over-a white-background" anything. It's okay to put it on the outside of the phone, when you give us a choice of black or white (or even gold) too. But to put it in the OS, and not let me change it?? We got a problem. I'd rather have green felt..

Dude, the linked article nails exactly how I feel about iOS 7. The guy read my mind.
Apple already testing iOS8,does it mean that Apple board is in a hurry to quickly replace iOS7 which seems to disappoint many users ?
Could Forstall come back
