Your note on Transportation:
Keep in mind that Industry is the number 1 job supplier for your sims. They usually provide many more jobs than your commercial zones do, and so keeping your industry 30 tiles away most certainly doesn't aid with getting your sims to work on time. I will take a wild guess that you had only one or two roads going to and from your residential to industrial. If this is so, this could also pose as a problem, as this would mean all traffic would be limited to this one road, slowing down traffic tremendously. Put your industry a bit closer to home, and you may have more success. Remember that a little pollution in a small city is not a big problem, and it's best not to overexpand too early into the game.

Your note on dumps:
This is likely because they either:
1. Your sims aren't generating enough garbage for any visual clues to take any effect. This is common to newer cities.
2. You haven't got any road connections. This is essential if you want to get garbage to your land fills.

Your note on water towers:
I am not entirely sure what your problem was. Did you just plop a water tower and your city got no water? If this is the case, build some pipes throughout your city that connect in some way to your water tower. This will get the water where it needs to go. Keep an eye on your water's usage level/capacity. If it reaches its maximum capacity, it's time to build a new tower.

To answer your final question, are there any good Sim City games for mac, the answer is YES. The latest Sim City for mac that has been released is Sim City 4 Deluxe. Unfortunately, the latest Sim City game, Sim City Societies, has yet to be released for Mac. This isn't too much of problem though, since Sim City Societies is utter garbage, and really doesn't play like Sim City always has. (No zoning? Plopping each building individually? Forget about it!)

Hope this helps. ;)

Cheers,
>Shadow<
Thanks for the tips.

I did add pipes, but I just decided to be more patient when I played again, and the water eventually came.

As for the dump, at first I just stuck it on the edge of the city like the tutorial showed, then I kept getting the "they can't find it" message, so then I added a road along the side of it, still got the message, then I ended up with a road all the way around it, LOL. Still no garbage.

I started yet another new one last night, and it will just take some time to learn how it all works. :)

I find it much more satisfying playing on full speed (>>>). OK so the fluctuations can be quite severe, but the results are much better when talking about garbage collection, water connections, electricity etc.

Another tip is to just start a new city, whack it on full speed, then leave it for an afternoon (plugged in), so that the years tick by and you can start your new city with all the smart stuff like a solar collector, windmills etc. Of course, I did this while I was on holidays where I had no signal so I had no use for my phone!

You don't have to do that ... just choose to start your city in the year 2000, you should have access to those technologies right away !

There's a few methods for delivering these sorts of gifts, I can't remember the specific route on this one, but when you see the green ticker say "sims demand stadium" you must click on that, you should be taken to the screen about the guy who had travelled back to your city and thought it would be great if they had their own stadium. There should be an option on his screen to "build stadium". If so, click that, and it should be in the gifts section afterwards (it costs $75k).

If not, go to Advisors, then "petitioners" and there should be an ordinace that says, "sims want a stadium".

If neither of those options work then you really have got a bad bug!

Can't build a stadium either. Other than that I'm pretty good. I used to love SimCity 3000; I felt that SimCity 4 was crappy. Man I wish they brought back arcologies from SimCity 2000.

my city. year is 2060 i believe. about 450k people and around $1 million in the bank. i've run out of real-estate, there isnt much to do at this point. do sea-ports work for anyone else? not for me. the stadium doesnt seem to be working for some people, worked fine for me.

Stadiums Marinas and Screenshots

To get to the stadium you have to click "..." then the cartoon speaking bubble (you know, like in comics when a character says something), this takes you to your advisors screen. On that screen, there's a link to "petitioners", go there. On that screen should be (so long as you've seen on the ticker that they are demanding a stadium) a petitioner about the stadium, go to that one and "select" it. On this screen you can accept or decline the stadium...THEN it appears in your "gifts" (but costs 75k).

Marinas - You have to build it on coastline that is perfectly straight. I don't believe (or haven't found a way) to build/take away costline to make it straight so it has to be on naturally occuring straight coast...built it a few tiles into the land, make sure it has a road, water, and electricity, and it should grow.

How do you take screenshots from an iPhone? Very cool...I want to!

Oh, water (when building pipes and pumps) and most utilities, etc. don't actually go into effect until the following month after which they're built. Hence the 3x speed ("> > >") makes it very nice you barely notice.

Hold the Home button first, then the Sleep button (on top) and you should see/hear a flash effect. BTW thanks for posting some nice tips, that helps out a lot - that utilities thing, I've never heard of that, thanks!

You don't understand the problem. We revive the petition... About 300 time, it fills up the scroll. But we don't revive it. There is no approve/disapprove option, and it didn't appear under gifts.
I have checked under every catagory. WE DONT GET THE BUILDING /cry I'm just tierd of that message

Actually since I posted my original response I've had the same problem as you.....I think it was because I took too long to say yes to it, and something in the game has a bug that keeps displaying that message on the ticker even though it's unavailable.

I gotcha back. just hit the "..." button on the bottom right hand of the screen, then select the "quote" icon. You should now see your advisors! Now hit the petitioners button and select the item indicating "stadium." Hit yes and BAM all done' (well.. first you gotta buy it and spend half your bank for it...)

Good luck!

Oh I'm sorry... I misread the part where you possibly took too long to say yes...
My sincerest apologies... :(

No worries...

I did however just build the stadium yesterday after having the same problem throughout the game as we've all described. Unfortunately there was no trick to it...all while the ticker would say we should build a stadium, I just kept checking the petitioners and finally it popped up, and I built it.

Things I'd like to be able to do that we either can't or I haven't figured out:
  1. Rotate the screen
  2. Raise, lower, and level the land
  3. Build two water pumps in a row without having to go back through selecting a water pump each time (same for parks, etc.)
  4. Trade energy/waste/water contracts with other towns.

I'd also like a few more low pollution waste management options...which inter-town trade might help. It seems like I have to build 15 recycling centers to avoid trash buildup.

A bug...after I built the hazardous waste facility that generates $400 per month of revenue I started making 3 or 4 thousand dollars a month even though my ledger says I should be about breaking even each month. I can't figure out if I'm missing something obvious or it's a bug, but I think it's a bug.

So, SimCity has been out for over a month on the iPhone. Those of you who own the application and have been playing with it for a while, I have a question: Is it really worth the $8? If you did not buy it yet and had already experienced it, would you re-buy it now? Thanks.

There's an update available on the app store now.

They have fixed the transportation bug, now sims will actually ride the bus and the trains. Finally!

As far as the stadium goes, I haven't had any problems with any of the gifts. When the sims start demanding it, either click on the scrolling message or go to your advisers and then on petitioners. It should say sims demand stadium in the petitioner section, click on approve petition and the stadium will then be available under the gifts section. It's as simple as that!

Battery runs quickly out when playing...so best to play when you're near a recharging outlet.

I think I'd still buy it, but think it more like a $6 game.

Update? Cool, I'll have to check it out!

Update was released and it didn't feed through in a day for me (for some reason I've been getting hardly any app updates and it's so annoying), so I just redownloaded for free so I can try out the Transportation fix.

Btw, I love how EA don't admit they had a bug, they merely say: "Removed transportation roadblocks for improved maneuverability of your sims"

Ha, yeah...but as a former programmer, I understand the desire to avoid using the word "bug" in a public way when working for corporate clients.

Handy tip to stop crashes

Even with the latest updates (which now lets sims use the buses and trains at last!), my city kept crashing constantly (yes I have all the updates on an ipod Touch 2nd gen)... So I tried turning down the music to off and now it is completely stable and has not crashed since! Woo!

I'm at year 1913 now with around 250k residents, but I got a lot garbage. How do I get rid of it? I can't build a Recycling Plant or something like that.

Please help, I got more garbage then residents now.

started playing SimCity2000 again :D its wonderful!

might hit up SimCity4 again soon, once uni finishes. what a great game, too bad i suck haha.

can i ask - how does everybody normally start? do you create say, 2 blocks of each type (indust, resid etc) and wait until demand is high? then build more? or do you make massive amounts to start off with? its hard :(
